Transfer From 1 PC to a New PC

Howdy.
Kk. So heres my problem and what ive done so far.
- Problem:
My laptop that I currently have ALL of my music on, (some downloaded from other sources, some from itunes, and others from cd's burned onto it) is getting turned into a work computer, and the company wants any and all items on it thats not work related erased. ect ect.
- What I've done so far:
Ive gone through and looked at some of the guides and all for transfering library with the ipod and what not.
-- Done the drag the iTunes music folder to the iPod, but it won't let me. When I go to drag the folder, an X appears over the pointer, and doesnt copy it.
-- Put all my music onto my iPod, connected iPod to new PC, but now its saying, it was to erase the iPod and sync with the music on the PC (which is just the stuff that comes with vista, no downloaded stuff)
Any other suggestions on how to do this.
I am going from a computer with XP to Vista.
Also, the network file & sharing, won't show my laptop on my PC. but shows the PC on the laptop.

go to this link in apple and it will tell you how
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
you can also get a memory stick and move the files but it will not save your ratings or playlists. I do not suggest a stick that uses compression. I did it that way and Vista does not have a way to decompress the files so they are useless. The third way is to back up of your files if you have a cd burner. you can do this through itunes by going to file/library/back up to disk. After recording the back up. you can restore from disk on the new computer.
But I will warn you, Vista *****! I have the 64 bit version and everytime I close Itunes it erases my music. I still have the music on my computer, it just wont stay in itunes. Still dont know how to fix this.

  • Can I transfer from Apple TV to my new Ipod touch?

I have a tricky situation on my hands. My old pc which my itunes library is stored can no longer connect to the internet. It was a windows 98 sony computer. I also have an ipod I bought 4 years ago that broke about the same time which was my device for this library. I just got the new 64 GB Ipod touch for Christmas and I also have an Apple TV. I would like to transfer all the music which is on my apple tv to my Dell Windows XP laptop computer so I can sync it to my new ipod. I have wifi on bot the laptop and apple tv. I have 8500 songs on the apple tv and the old computer with no internet connectivity.

No you can't transfer things from AppleTV to any other device or iTunes library.
Your best option would be to try to copy off the old iTunes library onto maybe an external drive (does the old machine have USB ? Could you add a USB PCI card?) and attach that to the laptop.
Provided your old computer works and the hard driev is k, you shoyld have a variety of potential options for getting the data from that onto something the new laptop can use - even removing the old computer drive, getting an IDE drive caddy with a USB 2.0 interface and hooking up to the laptop.

  • ITunes library transfer from PC Vista to a new MacBook Pro

Hello, I am considering a MacBook Pro and am ready to move forward but have a fairly large music file in my PC (Vista OS) iTunes (authorized to me) file. I am interested in how to easily transfer these files to the mac so that I can stop using the PC iTunes library as my main download site and use the MacBook Pro exclusively. I am new to Apple so be gentle. "iRip" in PC terms has made some back up easier but in the conversion to Apple that is not available.?. What are the options? Thank you for any information.

  • Why didn't old e-mails transfer from old hard drive to new hard drive?

In 2007, I accessed e-mails thru Outlook Express.  The new equipment I purchased last month does not support Outlook Express. I was told it was obsolete.   I think this is why e-mail saved from 2007 to 2012 did not transfer to new equipment.  I know years later, I began using Firefox as a browser and accessed e-mails from that site.  Firefox did transfer to new equipment.  So all I have is 3 months of 2012 e-mails to present.  Has anyone else had this problem when buying a new computer, i.e. losing old e-mails that wouldn't or didn't transfer?

Outlook Express was most likely configured to save your emails on your local hard drive.  This means that unless you take some action to move them to "the cloud" or your new hard drive, they will remain on your old computer.
When you access your email through a web browser, such as Firefox or Internet explorer, the email stays "in the cloud."  You can access your email from any computer any where with any web browser, as the email remains on the server and is not transferred to your local computer.
Do you still have your old computer with Outlook Express?  What operating system (i.e. Windows XP, Windows 7, ...) is it running?  I and others may be able to help you move your old email.
    Good Luck.

  • Applications didn't transfer from old hard drive to new hard drive

My MacBook Pro recently got water damage but I managed to save the hard drive.  After purchasing a new MacBook Pro I used Migration Assistant to move the contents from my old hard drive to my new one.  Everything transferred except for a few of my applications such as Adobe Lightroom, Microsoft Word, which are the more important ones that are harder to replace, as well as my apps from the app store which isn't a concern.  Since I do not want to purchase Microsoft Word again or go through the hassle of getting Lightroom back on here I was wondering if there is a simpler way to transfer these?
    Thanks

Zlig said, "Hi, you should be able to do this no problem. You can go for an inexpensive USB2 enclosure and use "Migration Assistant" to import your stuff across during setup of the new machine."
No, don't use Migration Assistant from a PPC to an Intel Mac. See Basic Guide to Migrating to Intel Macs here:

  • Transfer from old hard drive to new MacBook + Antivirus

    Hi,
My trusty iBook G4 finally died on me (Failing to read Logic board) and I am waiting for my replacement MacBook.
My question is: Can I remove the hd from my iBook and set it up in an enclosure and then transfer all my data/ preferences over to my shiny new aluminium MacBook?
Also, any preferences on antivirus software? I have always used symantec but have just read about the range of Intego products.
Any advice on both topics would be most appreciated.

  • File transfer from old G4 iBook to new MacBook Pro

I hope this is the right place for this post/question....
I am trying to do a file migration from my old iBook G4 PPC to my new MacBook Pro. The iBook does not have the migration utility and when I put the new OSX DVD in from my MacBook (as instructed to do in the Migration utility's steps) it does not read it (presumably because it is not the right processor, etc) so I had no luck doing the computer to computer transfer. I do not have the "Time Machine" utility on the old computer and using my regular back-up did not allow me to migrate using the "other drive" option (MacBook never saw the drive in the utility, but does mount it and allow me to access it as a drive). I can do this the hard way, file by file, but I have a couple of concerns that I want to check on before I spend hours going down a bad path.
    1) I have thousands of songs in my iTunes... can I drag and drop these? What about my play lists?
    2) iPhoto - I have thousands of photos - how do I easily transfer those over in their respective scrapbooks?
    3) Bookmarks, I can deal with by trying to find the file and importing them, or doing it manually, although there are a lot of them. Easier way?
    4) Outlook - I can try to export and import using the built in features, but not sure if that will pull all the folders and structure.
Those are the big ones... I have had this computer for 8 years, so it is pretty embedded in my life and I am hoping for a utility or something that will help this process.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Keith

The migration utility in the newer computer's OS X would usually allow
the older Mac's info to be pulled into the new computer; the installer
disc for the new Mac won't do anything for the old PPC Mac since it
would be unreadable. Intel-based Mac machine-specific discs won't
work in PPC-based Macs; and in general different machines can't
or won't use the install-restore discs from other models.
There may have been a way via ethernet, usb or firewire to share files
using a System Preference panel setting to facilitate this action. The
suggested method should be adequate. You can also put an iTunes
library and iPhoto library on a suitable external drive to par-down the
content and reduce clutter in a portable computer's hard disk drive
and still be able to access those carefully moved libraries from there.
Some good support documents in Apple Support tell how to do this.
In Firefox, you will have to rename the old folder of bookmarks to the
same name as the existing new apps folder for them to be seen. I
just replaced folders, carefully, so if that didn't work the first time, the
items were easy to find and try again later. Once you get the folder,
the contents should appear in the new browser version as they had
in the older one, to some extent, after the file or contents are moved.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Transfer from old touch iPod to new touch iPod

Hubby got me the 8 gig touch iPod last year for Christmas, this year he gave me a 32 gig. His idea was that I use my classic for music, and my touch for games, photos & such, that if he gave me a larger touch, I would only have to carry one.
Not to sure, if I'll keep it, to tell the truth it feels like a lot of $$, to have less over all storage. However if I do keep it, how in the heck to I transfer all those apps I bought for the 8 gig? If I had to buy all over again, the new one will be going back to the store ASAP.
Other than the speakers, is there any other reasons that the 32 gig would be worth upgrading to? To be honest, I use the iPods when I'm traveling, so I don't need external sound.

MUST be a way to drag and drop these WITHOUT syncing
    there ain't !
since it warns me every time I attempt that I will automatically ERASE everything on my iTouch
to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod - hold down the option and the command keys ( on a PC that would be the shift and ctrl ) keys when plugging in the ipod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes.
... but the apps aren't even on my laptop, they're all on my iTouch
    that would be +iPod Touch+
purchased apps can be re-downloaded for free. i would recommend to either sync them back from your Touch to your iTunes library (or re-download them), then connect your son's Touch usinf the above method.

  • How to transfer from iPad and iPhone to new iMac

I just purchased a new iMac, my iPhone will not sync or does not display in iTunes. Can I transfer songs, media and photos from my iPad, iPhone and iPod to my new Mac? Also, on my crashed computer (with no back up drive) has all my iTunes purchases, how do I retrieve them again from iTunes?
    Elizabeth Eggert

    Elizabeth,
on your new iMac start iTunes and log in to the iTunes Store (Store menu) using the same Apple ID as on the broken old Mac.
Then authorize this new Mac and select the iTunes Store. On the righthand side, you should see a section labelled Music or similar and below that a link to your purchased items. Clicking that link sends you to a list of all items purchased with your Apple ID.
    Good luck, Andreas

  • Profit center balances transfer from old profit centers to new profit cente

    Dear All,
My client wants to deactivate all cost centers and profit centers and create new cost centers and new profit centers for new fiscal year 2009.
    So here my queries are
    1. Putting an end date to the existing cost center and creating the New cost center now itself in the system with effective date as 1st April 09?
I changed validity period in cost center but it does not accept.
    2. How to restrict postings to profit center from April, 2009 ? even changed validity period and changed as inactive mode in profit center,
It is allowing postings to profit center.
    3. How the balances need to be transferred to New profit centers? I tried in 9KE0 T.code but in this T.code we can transfer profit center and GL A/C wise
but here we have around 20 profit centers and 100 above Gls, so it will take so much of time, so kindly suggest me short way.
    4. And When can we transfer balances to New profit centers i.e April 1st or after completions of Audit? because client wants to post pending transactions of 2008 FY
to old profit centers in April and May months. So in this situation how can i proceed?
    5. For mapping the Assets & Liabilities balances as on 31st Mar 2009 to New profit center the following need to be provided
        A. Profit center wise Trail balance
( For this i suggested S_PL0_86000030 t.code) is this correct?
        B. Profit center wise Balances of Subsidiary Ledgers i.e Vendors, Customers & Assets
    6. On which date I can close 2008 FY& open 2009 fiscal year for Assets?
Please guide and provide me solutions above my queries.
This would be great help for me, Thanks in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,

    1.     You can block cost centers and profit centers and create new or can use same by changing analysis period  Eg: KS02 > Edit > Analysis period
    2.     Select lock indicator in profit center master record
    3.     Write LSMW to that
    6.  At the end of you fiscal year close the asset period and do all year end transactions and open new asset period
You can use S_PL0_86000030 check it
