Do a backup of your 4, either to the cloud or your computer, depending on how you usually do this.
If you backed up your 4 to the computer, connect the new phone to the computer at this point, if you restored it to the cloud, do NOT connect it to the computer (or you might get an old backup by mistake). Just connect it to a charger.
When you first power up your new phone, it will ask you whether you want do configure it as a new phone or to restore it from a backup. Select "from a backup". The prodedure is slightly different for computer and iCloud backups, but you'll be able to figure it out.
This will restore all your apps, settings, and camera roll. Then you can either sync it to the computer or redownload your music and movies (depending on how you manage these things).
Once this is done, you can delete everything you don't want from the old phone.

No dont plug in your Iphone/ipod the same thing happened to me and all of my stuff got deleted from my ipod and itunes after that. And even when i got help they couldnt replace 200 items (music) of mine so just a warning, dont plug it in. Hope it helped

You can only transfer music that has been purchased through the iTunes Store. The steps are outlined in the article below. Also the other article will let you download other purchases without having to plug in your iPhone.

I recently switched from iphone 3 to iphone 4, backed it up, took it into the store as I needed help. Long story short, my music has disappeared, and not even plugging my phone into my laptop finds it. Seems there is no music on my laptop either, even though it was backed up. I am hopeless in these matters, what have I done?

The backup that itunes performs does not include any itunes content. You should be transferring any purchases made on the iphone to your computer regularly.
Is the music on your computer? If so, then sync it to your iphone.
If not, then you can redownload itunes purchases in some countries

Voice memos won't transfer from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6

I just got a new iPhone 6 for Christmas, coming from an iPhone 4 (running iOS 6.1). I backed up my iPhone 4 one last time before plugging in my new iPhone, and everything synced over perfectly except for my voice memos.
I have a tremendous amount of voice memos, over 11 hours worth of small snippets. As it is one of the most my most used apps, this lack of sync is very upsetting to me. Is there anyway I can transfer over my wealth of voice memos to my new phone, specifically within the Voice Memos app?

I'm also facing the same issue but my phone is iphone 5. I did back it up one more time before I plug my new iPhone 6. Voice memo didn't get transferrd. In addition my music was also missed.
can we restore these some how. Unfortunately I already wiped out my old phone before I check if everything got transferred

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone. Without syncing : File>Transfer Purchases Authorize your computer for your itunes account first.
If you sync to a blank computer, then your contacts and calendars will be erased as well. Another reason to always maintain a backup.
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer. When you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.

I have an issue with the transfer of my data from one iPhone to another where one might know moe than I do...
Situation:
Transfer Data from ipgone 3g (4.2.1) to iPhone 4 (7.1.2)
So here is what I did:
1) Create 3g Backup
2) Clean up iphone 4, including I cloud etc
3) Reset iphone 4
4) Recover from Backup of iphone 3g on bnlank iphone 4
Result:
It seems to work but everytime it finishes working on it the iPhone 4 is back to the blank start screen (select language and so on)
So my question is, if it is simply not possible to use an ios 4.2.1 Backup on an ios 7.1.2 phone or if I am missing something?

Thanksfor your reply. Unfortunatly i did exactly what is mentionend by apple: 1. Run backup 2. Erase find my backup on new phone 3. Erase new phone back to factory settings 4. Connect to itunes, restore with existing backup. I actually did the procedure several times by now with no luck. It seems to me that either the erasing of find my iphone went wrong or that the 4.2.1 backup does not really work with ios 7. I would be gratefull for any other ideas!

I'm having trouble transferring my music from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4s. Here's what I tried. I backed up the iPhone 4 and then plugged in the newly activated iPhone 4s and restored it as a backup. When the iPhone 4s finished restoring, only photos and settings had transferred. The apps began transferring, but my music was no where to be found. The iPhone 4 is set to manually manage music and video. It was also running iOS 4.3.3. Is iOS 5 required on both phoens to restore data from one phone to another? Would the software difference explain why the music and contacts did not transfer?

You can backup the 4, erase all content and settings on the 4S (reverting it to a "new" state), then set it up and tell it to restore from iTunes using the backup made of the 4. I know that if you are syncing music, this will set it up with the same media on the phone. I don't manually manage music, so I don't know if it will definitely do this under those circumstances. It sounds like it doesn't.
Syncing does NOT mean you have to transfer EVERYTHING in your library to the phone. It's fairly simple to selectively sync playlists, artists, genres, specific podcasts, etc.
