Transfer from iPod to Computer

I returned my old computer before saving the library to my iPod. I did however export the library, so I have it on my new computer hard drive. Is there anyway I can import it to the library on my new computer so it will reflect my iPod? If not, what can I do so that I don't lose all of the music on my iPod?

  • Applications wont transfer from iPod to Computer

Hi there, I recently reinstalled my computer, and wanted to transfer my applications from my iPod to Computer, but when I attempt this, it stops 1/10 way through on the loading bar, then it goes back to "OK to disconnect". I have contacted apple support via email, but they tried their best and could not identify the problem. I have tried restoring, pressing the "Transfer purchases" button, but these methods do not work. One method the Apple support worker told me was to delete all my applications, and buy them back for free in the Application store, but I have over 80 applications, and I don't want to look for all 80 applications through the iTunes store. I have seen many other people who have this problem, but it has not been resolved.

  • How to transfer from iPod to Computer

I am currently creating a full library to complete my new iPod. However, I have found it easier to edit content directly on iPod after realizing the hours of download time. Therefore, the files that I have on my iPod do not match the files on my computer. Can anyone explain how you upload files back to your computer? Thanx

  • Easy transfer from ipod to computer mac

I have brought my apple MacBook Pro as of yesterday - and do love it, but I am having problem with get my ipod library transfer to the mac. I phoned support they advised me to down load the subject line (a free download) which then should work --- it didn't!..
    Please can you help me?

You can only "transfer" purchased music from the iPod to your computer. Any music you ripped from CDs or purchased elsewhere will have to be moved (either fromt he computer you originally synced with or using third-party software.
If you used third-party software and it didn't work, it would be helpful if you told us what you used and what happened.
Also...are you really running OS 9? If so, which of version of iTunes do you have? It could be that a much older version of iTunes is not compatible with the current third-party apps available to do this.

  • New computer -how do I transfer from ipod to itunes?

I have just installed itunes on a new computer. On my ipod are hundreds of tracks but of course the newly installed itunes is currently empty. If I connect my ipod will it transfer from ipod to computer of will I lose all my tracks?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transfer from iPod to New Computer

I use my iPod to listen to recordings of lectures. I do the recording using a digital recorder, then download to the PC and import into iTunes then sync to iPod.
Recently my PC crashed and the hard disk is no longer recognized. I will have to buy a new hard disk and reinstall everything to get that PC up and running. It will take a long time.
I tried to sync from iPod to another PC to continue using the iPod but it won't let me. I got a message saying that everything in my iPod will be deleted if I use it with another PC.
I can understand the copyright issue for purchased music but I don't have any -- everything in my iPod is recording of lectures.
I looked for Apple Support but all their Support web site does is refer me to this forum.
Can someone suggest a way to transfer from iPod to a new PC? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for all your help,
    Pius

  • How do i transfer photos and music from ipod to computer?

    Hi everyone,
a couple of weeks ago my computer crashed and i lost everything, i don't know how to put the music and photos that are on my ipod back onto my computer, can anyone help me? i am especially bothered about the photos, as they are the only copy of them that i have (the other copy was on my computer) and they are quite sentimental, i really don't want to lose them! I have seen other people say to plug in the ipod, go to my computer and unhide the music and photos, i think i have found the music but it's all under weird names and my computer won't let me open it. With the photos, all that i can find is two folders called 'photo database' and 'thumbs', but again, i can't open them, i just get a message up saying 'windows cannot open this file' and 'windows needs to know where this file was made before it can open it.' if anybody can help me then it would be much appriciated, i really don't want to lose my stuff. many thanks in advance x

These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

    PodUtil Software
    YamiPod Software (Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – File=>Add Folder
7 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    8 - Click OK
9 - The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes
9a –- This will take some time depending on your PC and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try switching your update method to 'manual' , detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • Transfer my music and foto's from Ipod to computer

My Ipod Photo was synchronised with a laptop. This one crashed and now I want to put the music and photo's to my new laptop.
Nowhere can I find a way to do so.
    Who can help me?
    regards
    Anjo

First of all try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
CopyPod Photo can be used for your photos, although if you loaded them to your iPod as full resolution photos, you should be able to retrieve them from your iPod by enabling disk use and dragging them out of the photo folder on the iPod. I've never actually tried this though.
