Transfer from iTunes to iTunes

I have a new MacBook Pro which I am setting up. My old Windows XP computer has iTunes full of music and videos. What is the correct way to transfer content from the Windows XP computer iTunes to the MacBook Pro iTunes? Thank you.

Choose Consolidate Library from the Library section of the File menu, copy the iTunes folder(not just iTunes Music) to an external drive, put that folder on the new computer, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, and point it to that library. Alternatively, back it up to CDs or DVDs and restore the backup on the new computer.

What are you doing to try to transfer them and what error are you getting? There are probably a dozen possible reasons, so narrowing it down would be very helpful.

  • HT1535 Songs won't transfer from iTunes to iPod touch

I'm having trouble transferring music from iTunes onto my iPod touch (5th gen). When I plug my iPod into my computer and try to drag songs onto it from my iTunes library, it says 'updating files' but gets then gets stuck. I keep trying and have waited for over 30 minutes for one song to transfer but it just isn't working. The songs show up in my iPod's music library but they are greyed out and do not show up on my actual iPod. Also, when I tried to transfer purchased from my ipod to iTunes, I kept getting an error message but that has now worked. There is plenty of free space on my ipod so that can't be the problem. This is a recent problem and I was able to do both of these tasks easily a couple of weeks ago. My iPod is up to date and I updated iTunes in case that was the problem but it has not helped. I've ran out of ideas and don't know what else to do now! Has anyone had this problem and managed to solve it?

Find one of the songs in iTunes that won't sync to the iPod, and try to play it (just double click the file in iTunes). Do you get an error message? If so, let us know what it is, as this will probably explain why it can't be transferred to the iPod.

Certain songs wont transfer from my itunes to my iphone, it's telling me that the computer is not authorized but once I go up to Store and authorize computer and enter in my info, it tells me that the computer is already authorized. • Can't transfer from iTunes to iPhone4 & How Can I get my apps back?

So, on my old computer, I had all my music on an external drive, and I finally decided to put iTunes on my laptop and just bring the music over especially since the computer just died.  I decided to also plug in my iPhone so that it can sync up and I could go through all the steps with that now and not worry about it later - plus I wanted to put on all my Halloween apps that I'd been collecting for the past 3 years...
Well, the music got transferred just fine.  I sync up the phone and it tells me that there is an update.  I transfer my purchases first before doing the update.  While it's doing that, I'm noticing something weird - it's transferring apps that I've had for awhile now.  So, I look at my apps, and the only ones there are the ones that were just on my phone, all the others I had were gone!
I update my phone to ios5.  It takes EVERYTHING off the phone.  And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING!  The photos I had on there stayed, as did whatever notes I made, and my contacts were all safe along with my prior messages.  All the music and videos and apps were taken off.  No problem, right?  Wrong.  I can't seem to transfer anything from iTunes to my iPhone.
    So, here's my dilemma:
    (1) How do I get all the zillions of apps back when I no longer have the computer that they were originally on?
    (2) How do I transfer music/videos/apps from iTunes to my iPhone?
    Everything is updated, the computer is authorized, there is obviously space on the iphone....  I'm at a loss.   Help!  ;__;

Apps and other media can be downloaded again for free, see this article: Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Did you make sure that no restrictions are set on your phone to install apps? Check Settings/General/Restrictions --> App Installation.

  • MCPro4.1 -cannot upgrade past IOSX 10.5.8 and now cannot transfer from itunes to my 4s which is upgraded to IOS7. What can I do?

    I have a MacBook Pro 4.1.
I have been unable to upgrade the software beyond OSX 10.5.8.
I have an iphone 4S and have previously been able to transfer tracks from itunes to the phone but now - though I can download music to the laptop, I cannot transfer them to the phone as I get an error message saying I need Itunes 11.1 which I have downloaded but I cannot run apparently because of the old operating system. Is there any way 'round this - without going back to the old OS on the phone?

To get to the next stage, Mac OS X 10.6, you will need to BUY a 10.6 DVD from the Apple Online Store and have them ship it to you. Once you have Installed, Update to 10.6.8, and a much newer version of iTunes will become available as an Update.

  • Music and Video Content Disappears After Transfer From itunes

    Hi
I am experiencing a very strange issue so I hope someone can help or has at least experienced this themselves.
I have my iphone set up so I manually manage/sync music ans content. For the last 2 weeks everytime I transfer music and video to my iphone it disappears after I eject the device from itunes. When transferring the content this works as expected and I can see the tracks being transferred. If I then go into my music library while the iphone is still connected to my laptop I can see and play music on the iphone.
As soon as I eject the device (in the recommended way) my iphone music library shows no content what so ever it has vanished. If I then reconnect the iphone to itunes, on the iphone summary screen it seems to show there is content on the iphone as the GB capacity bar is filled up with whatever I have put on their but no content is visible on the iphone.
Interestingly if I download a podcast or music directly onto the iphone this stays on there.
This is driving me mental has anybody else experienced this and if so know how to fix it?
    Thanks
    Chris

I'm having the same issue and haven't found anything on how to fix it other than restoring my phone. Won't be doing that. Hopefully this bumps it back to the top and someone will have an answer.

  • Can't transfer from Itunes

I cannot transfer my app from Itunes to Apple after I transfered from other Itunes account

I had the same problem and contacted Apple Support.
The problem was being caused by a conflict in the drive letter for the iPod. The drive letter F was used for the iPod and I had a network drive assigned to that letter.
The problem was resolved as follows (make sure the iPod is connected):
    1. Right click "My Computer" on the desktop.
    2. Click "Manage".
    3. Click "Disk Management" under "Storage".
    4. Right click on the volume representing the iPod.
    5. Click "Change Drive Letter and Paths...".
    6. Change the letter.
    7. Confirm the change.
    8. Restart the computer.
Hopefully this should resolve the issue.

  • My playlist is gone. can i transfer from itunes

My ipod playlist is gone. Can i transfer it from itunes? Syncing will not work.

    Hi milsto,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you would like to sync a playlist from your iTunes library on your computer to your iPod. I suggest taking a look at the following article to make sure the sync settings are correct for syncing that playlist to your iPod.
iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1351
    Syncing music
Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
Click the button with your device's name, below the Spotlight window.
In the main iTunes browser window, select Music.
Select Sync Music. You can select "Include music videos" if you want to sync Music videos to your device.
Your device needs to have enough free space to sync the content that you selected from your library.
Tip: You can use the capacity bar at the bottom of the device settings window to see how much free space is available. The window will update with an estimate as you select content.
Click Apply. iTunes will sync the content you selected to your device. The iTunes LCD will show the sync progress and notify you when the sync is complete.
To disconnect your device, find your device in iTunes and click the eject icon.
If syncing your entire library doesn't bring that playlist over to your iPod, try selecting the Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres button from the picture under number 4. Just make sure that all music, including the playlist that you want, is selected in the sections for playlists, artists, albums, and genres. After you make the selections, choose Apply in the bottom right corner and the content you selected should sync to your iPod.
    Thanks for reaching out,
    -Joe

  • IPod Classic cannot transfer from iTunes

My classic can no longer transfer tunes from iTunes.  It freezes and then eventually comes up with the message cannot transfer.  I have reset it several times, tried a different lead, even tried it on a different computer.  Eventually I  reset the iPod to factory settings but still get the same problem.  Anyone any ideas please?

    Hello willowfalls,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Since you stated that the sync process is occurring, please ensure you have your sync settings configured to sync your music.

  • Certain apps won't transfer from itunes to ipod

I have the latest updates for itunes and ipod touch.
Today I noticed several of my apps are no longer visible on my ipod. I say "visible" because when I try to re-download them from the app store, the ipod thinks I already have them and therefore the app store does not give me a download button.
I transferred my apps from the ipod to itunes, and low and behold, the missing apps transferred to itunes. They will not sync back to the ipod, unfortunately. I can delete the app from itunes, but after syncing, the ipod still thinks it exists and I'm unable to download it again.
This issue only affects a few apps, specifically netflix, goodreads, and redbox, to name a few.
Any ideas about how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Any

    - Have you uses the SpotLight search on the iPod to look for the apps? Maybe they are there but you can't find them (e.g., hidden in an app folder or, if you have all eleven app screen filled they are not visible).
    - Could you have restrictions set on the iPod that is "hiding" them and preventing their use? Setting>General>Restrictions.

  • Need help - Songs do not transfer from ITunes to IPod

I recently upgraded to ITunes 7.2 and although I have acquired new songs in ITunes when I connect my IPod it quickly says IPod update is complete but my new songs do not show up on the IPod.
I'd rather not start from scratch by doing a restore or some other similar procedure.
Can anyone offer assistance here? Thanks!

Are you basing the few that don't get sent to your ipod on the file count? Could there be duplicates? I've noticed that there are some of my movies that don't get sent over but I usually get a warning that they aren't in a compatable format.
There is an option in either file or edit (can't remember exactly where, I'm at work) but you can filter to show all the duplicates. I've noticed that when I drag files over to be copied to my ipod and there are duplicates, it only does one.
After you find the culprits, another thing would be to export the file to your desktop. Delete it from iTunes then reimport it making sure of the file format.
    just a thought
