Transfer help

First, I have no idea what generation shuffle I own. I'm going through the process of asking my iPod shuffle to transfer purchases to my laptop. I got the items off of my desktop, through the same iTunes account (I have it on both my laptop and desktop, but the libraries aren't communicating with one another because the two computers aren't connected, so I'm trying to move my songs via my iPod). I have authorized the computer. When I click Transfer, it tells me it's synching for about five seconds and the downloading icon appears next to the iPod name, then nothing happens. No songs appear. What am I doing wrong?

Hello aliceone,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
This article should help you determine exactly which model of iPod shuffle you own.

As to the *File->Transfer Purchases* option, I'm not exactly sure as to what is happening. Are you positive you authorized the computer with the same account you purchased these tracks with?

  • Folder/File transfer help

I'm trying to transfer files/folders from an old macbook to a new one, but when I connected the new to the old via firewire, finder was not able to locate them. The folders I am looking for are placed on the sidebar of the old mac. The only folders finder displays are the generic downloads folder and desktop of the old macbook. Even when searching for specific files within said folders, no results are found. Is it a user access problem? Do I need to alter some settings? The only way I can access the old macbook is via firewire because the video card burnt out. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks

Your external hard drive is probably in NTFS format, which is read-only to the Mac OS. If the harrd drive will be used only with a Mac or Macs, reformat it in Mac OS Extended format using Disk Utility. If you must use the drive with a Windows PC too, leave it in NTFS format and install Tuxera NTFS or NTFS-3G on the Mac to enable the Mac to write to the disk, or else put the disk in Mac format and install MacDrive on the PC.

  • Dead Mac- New PC i Pod Music Transfer Help!!

Hello, I am new to the forum and I have a question I'm sure has been asked a million times so I apologize in advance.
My Ipod (older 30G version) was connected to my MAC that died a few months ago and I recently got a PC. I want to transfer my music on the Ipod to my new PC. The music unfortunately has not been backed up so I want to make sure I don't jump the gun and accidentally lose anything before consulting someone who knows what they are doing. When I connect the Ipod to the PC it says restore to factory setting. Won't that erase all my music? or Is it still in my Library and will transfer once I change over to the PC?
    Help Please!!!!!!

Unfortunately, you won't be able to do that going from Mac to PC. Your iPod would be formatted for Mac, and a Windows PC canNOT read the Mac format. If you were going the other way, you could do it, because a Mac CAN read the Windows format.
You would need to find someone who uses a Mac. Then use a program, such as Senuti,
    http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
to transfer the song files off the iPod to the Mac. Then copy the files to some transfer medium, such as an external drive or DVD-R, making sure the format used is readable by a Windows PC. Once you get the files onto your Windows PC, you can get them into your iTunes library. After that, you can Restore and Sync you iPod.
Yes, doing a Restore now will erase the iPod and your music will be lost.

  • How do I transfer help favorites? Possible?

    Hi All,
A colleague of mine asked if it's possible to transfer the stored  favorites from one .chm help file to another. Has anyone done this? I know about the hh.dat file and that it stores the items you selected in your CHM's Favorites tab, but looking at the dat, it doesn't seem possible, since the data isn't all human-readable.
Now I did get something similar to work. If the original help file and the new help file reside in the same location on different computers. By transferring the hh.dat from one computer and replacing it on the new computer I saw the same favorites on the new computer.
But with new versions of help, the directory where helps are stored are often version-specific... so is this possible?
    Thanks for the help,
    Jared

The short answer is that favourites can't be copied from one CHM to another. You may have found a workaround, but if the CHM is installed in a different directory each time, the HH.DAT file would not apply the favourites. All you could do is add a favourite once, and roll out that users HH.DAT file. However I wouldn't advise that as any PC specific settings would be overwritten. Don't forget that some users may have their own favourites that they've added that they'd have to readd.

  • Mac files to PC transfer help request

    Hi,
I have a Power Mac G3 Beige and would like some assistance/advice in how to transfer my file to a PC.
    Here's some additional information:
    I'm using OS 9.0.4. It's a 4 Gig hard drive, and I've 102 MB free space available.
The computer had some damage. As a result: the floppy disk drive no longer works (clicks continually), and the available memory randomly "reduces" to 0 if used to long (I usually just delete files and after a while, the memory returns, but never goes too far over 100 MB). DiskTools fixed the memory issue somewhat (I can at least go a couple of hours without losing all memory, whereas before I could rather last an hour before running out of memory).
The computer also uses an external Iomega SCSI Zip 100 Drive.
I've a number of files on the computer, about 20 cds, and about 30 100 MB zip disks. The files aren't organized properly (there are dupes, here and there). A lot of the files relate to websites (I'm a web developer).
What I want to do is somehow transfer all of my files to my PC; combine them with my PC files; organize them; and then back up all of my files (method TBD). My initial problem is getting the files to the PC.
Here are the options I've considered:
FTP: I can try using the internet to ftp the files, but that'd take a long time, and I've several gigs worth of files. Additionally, for some reason, transferring files from Mac to FTP takes much longer than PC to FTP (a file that's transferred on the PC in 5 minutes, may take 20-30 minutes via the Mac).
*ZIP DRIVE:* I'd like to put the files on the zip disks and transfer things that way. However, I don't know how to get my PC to recognize my zip drive. If that's possible, this would be a route I'd like to explore.
NETWORK: I have a copy of Dave, which in the past I've used successfully. However, the big problem I had was that the filenames of the Mac files were renamed once transferred to the PC, resulting in some files now working. I renamed the files I wanted to work - and things worked fine. However, I'd rather not have to rename everything, or even have to check, as there are a lot of files. I just want a straight copy.
*CD/DVD BURN:* I don't have a cd/dvd burner for the Mac. If there's one that anyone can recommend for use with OS 9.0.4, even if it's an old piece of hardware, I'd definitely consider this route.
*FLASH DRIVE:* One problem I had years ago (when I was using this computer regularly, is upgrading. My recollection is fuzzy, but I think the reason I didn't upgrade my OS is because to do so would be to erase my hard drive, and I wanted to back up my files first...which goes back to the main topic of this email. I mention this because I wouldn't mind hooking up a flash drive to the Mac, transferring files there, then transferring files to the PC. However, I think I'd need to upgrade to a higher OS, and I do not want to erase the drive until I'm sure I can get the files. And there's also the issue with my random memory outages. I can probably free up another 100 MBs by deleting some programs, but that's about it. There's not much on the computer. Yes, that's odd, it should be somewhere around 3 GIGs, but the damage screwed up the computer somehow. I never could determine where the memory went to.
The above are just the ones I've considered. I'm sure I'm missing some others.
I'm willing to invest some money in making this happen, but I'd like to keep it low, as this would be a _one-time transfer_. I haven't decided as to whether I'm going to trash it afterwards or donate it yet, but I definitely plan to no longer use it.
Considering the hurdles above, any help/advice is appreciated - and would bring me one step closer to purchasing a new Mac.
    Thanks.
    -Stephen

Wow. Okay, i've done this before myself with large amounts of data, by several means. Here's how:
    1. I used Dave 3.1, passing the ethernet cables through an ethernet hub (an actual router is not necessary). I don't recall having a filename issue with Dave but i do recall it working quite well. I'll bet there's a setting or something in Dave regarding filenames, e.g. select Joliet or 31 char instead of ISO 9660. I cannot believe Dave won't transfer 31 char filenames.
    2. More recently, i regularly use my 2 GB USB flash drive to xfer files, and there is NO filename issue. Of course, you need USB which means a PCI card for the Beige G3 if it doesn't already have one. OS9 only supports 31 char filenames, and these are always transferred just fine to Windows via my Windows-formatted flash drive. OS 9.0.4 should handle most USB drives. If not, you can upgrade to 9.1 or 9.2.1 for free--without erasing or otherwise messing up your startup drive. However.... if the computer is having problems, it might be a bad idea to try to upgrade the OS, especially if all your data is on the same drive.
    3. Many if not most IDE CD/RW drives will work with Toast 5+ in OS9. Many will even work with Toast 4. In fact, i don't think i've ever found one that didn't work with Toast 5. I'm not sure about OS9's built-in Disc Burner software because i never use it. Toast is too good.
    4. A Zip drive would be an excruciatingly slow way to do it but the filenames do arrive intact. Of course, the disks have to be formatted for Windows.
    5. I'm not sure about OS9's "Personal Web Pages" but i've used Netpresenz and it works great. That might be the best way to do it but i'm not sure how it would work if you're doing this at home and only have one internet connection. Doesn't quite seem to make sense. Why not just direct connect with Dave..?
Btw, the one method you missed was this: open each file on the Mac with Hexedit, and copy down all the 1's and 0's onto a piece of paper (it may take several sheets). Then go to Windows, open Winhex, and type in all the 1's and 0's. Then give the file the same name as it had on the Mac, and voila! Do this for each file you want to transfer. Shouldn't take more than about 500 years.
    Gluck.

  • Apple Mail transfer - HELP!

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having an issue doing a simple Mail move and I'm not sure why. I've recently done a fresh install of Snow Leopard and was attempting to move my Mail Folder and Mail Preferences list from a TM backup. No problem moving them, of course, and when I started up Apple Mail, everything was going fine. The Mail App indicated it needed to import files and a few minutes later said the files were all imported and that it was finishing up in "less than a minute". Well, that never changed. The progress bar window and "less than a minute" message never disappeared. Eventually, I did a Force Quit. I've tried this 3 times now with the same results.
I don't know that it matters, but I was using Mail for a week or so before finally getting around to said transfer, and, in that time, I did change my MobileMe password. I don't see how that would affect moving those files, though. Plus, I had other email accounts besides MobileMe which certainly wouldn't be affected by any MobileMe password changes.
    Thoughts anyone?
    Thank you,
    travis

  • Data transfer help PLS

    Dear's All
may database are same,Schema diff, table's collumn name diff.how poss. data transfer one to another tables
    such as
    database name = ababil
    schema name = core_account
    table name =account
    column name =acc_no,fcy_amt
    say acc_no=1 and fcy_amt =100
    another schema name fe_ababil

    column name =acc_no,c_8881
    result will be
    acc_no=1 and c_8881=100
    pls help

U can also use - the COPY command to copy data from one table to other. The most important thing is that using this command u can copy data from a table of one database to other without using any import/export process.
      COPY FROM SCOTT/TIGER@TEST TO ERP/ERP@TECH3 APPEND TEST_T1
      USING
          SELECT *
FROM SCOTT.TEST_T2;- One thing is - both the table has to be same structure. Or otherwise u have to map the columns. Hope this will solve ur purpose.

  • Playlist Transfer Help

I am trying to place the same playlists from one itunes (mac laptop) to another (imac). I have used the export playlist feature to create an xml document and then used the itunes from the other computer to import playlist. It isn't working that I can tell as the playlist on the older machine haven't updated. Do I need to throw away an old itunes file like when you do the Library transfer? Also, I don't have the exact same music library on each machine and don't want the same library.
Lastly, it is strange that the "export playlist" language is singular, not plural as in "import playlist(s)". This isn't a process that has to be repeated for each playlist?
    TIA
    - Stew

Use a program like YamiPod to copy them back over to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Ipod disconnects during song transfer--HELP!!!

while i am updating my ipod with music, it will automatically disconnect itself from my PC, and of course, the update stops. it's frustrating. does anyone think it is worth it to send the ipod in for repair? i would rather fix it on my own, and with the help of others.
thanks to whoever might be able to help!!!

Your computer probably has more than one USB - try a different one.
USB, I think, has a better record on this than Firewire. Bad Firewire ports are common - wouldn't hurt for you to try a different USB before trying more complicated stuff.
Do you get any messages when the iPod disconnects? Have you updated to the latest XP itunes and iPod updater?
Have you restarted XP, lately? SOmetimes it helps to start fresh.

  • Data transfer help

I have an older Power Mac G4 (without a monitor- screen burned out) that I want to transfer to my new IMac with the duo core intel processor. I also have a time capsule. How would I transfer the data from my old computer to the new one? Is there a way to do it through the Time capsule?

Connect the computers with a FireWire cable, start up the Power Mac with the T key held down, and either use the Migration Assistant to migrate user accounts or move the files over manually.

  • Ipod video transfer help!!

Hello i have videos already on itunes in the library, and a playlist. it will not update to the new 5G 30 gb ipod... im trying desperatley to find a way to make it work and getting no luck. someone please help me asap please!! thanks katy

The iTunes browser will play your video even though it isn't formatted properly for your iPod. You must open your video in Quicktime, then choose: File>Export...then make sure you save Movie to iPod(320x240)
I have Quicktime Pro, I don't know if this option is available to you. I'm sure iMovie has a similar option if these are home movies you are working with.
