How do you transfer home movies from mac to Apple TV

You need to add them to iTunes.
How you do this depends on how you make the home movies.

Thanks for that, it was really helpful.
Glad to hear that worked for you. While formatting an external drive with a Mac format is best if it will be used only with a Mac, if the files on the drive have to be accessible to a PC also, it's possible to format it in an exFAT format, which both the Mac and a PC can read from and write to. However, if you do that, do the actual formatting while the external is connected to the PC.

  • Need to transfer home movies from iPhone to external hard drive.

Need to transfer home movies from iPhone to external hard drive.  The movies were created with Flip Video, not iPhone.  I can see and watch them via iTunes but have not figured out how to move them from iPhone to hard drive. iPhone is broken (screen) and locked, but is still connecting to iTunes.  I have backed up all photos/videos created with the iPhone, just need to figure out how to get these last videos off the phone.  They are very important.  I am working off a Windows XP machine.  No, the camera wizard will not work for this as these videos are not stored in that area of the phone.
    Thanks,
    E

This is what I have done so far and stuck again.
I opened Image capture plugged in IPhone.  Device brought up camera roll pics only.
I was able to send them to the external hard drive.  Now they have green checks marks.  I cannot seem to remove them. Don't want to delete them yet to put into folder for having prints made..
Devices showed IPhone but would only show  camera roll I have two other folders and cannot seem to go to them to show up on the device  one is Photo library has 300+ pics and
last import folder.   I would like to take the 300 also from the Photo library and also copy them or move them to the external hard drive.
What step am i missing , please help.
    thank you

  • How To Transfer iTunes Rented Movies from Mac to Apple TV

I have an Apple TV (ATV) 3rd generation. I rented a movie through iTunes on my mac and downloaded the movie onto my mac. I see in the Apple TV manuel at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657 that ATV 1st generation had the ability to move movies from iTunes on mac to be stored on the ATV.
Is this possible on ATV 3rd generation?
Is the only solution to airplay from my mac to the ATV?
If airplay is the only answer then is there any picture loss with this method?
    Thanks

iPod Nano 5th Gen. User Manual (direct PDF download), To make a Genius playlist on iPod nano, starts on page 40, Chapter 3.

  • HT1657 How do I transfer rented movies from iPad to Apple TV

Although my Apple TV sees all my iTunes so previously purchased and I am able to download movies and other product from ITunes, the Apple TV is requesting. Three or four digit security code ending in 1359
I do not have any such code
    Please help
What do I need to do to seamlessly rent or buy movies on Apple TV????
    Regards,
    Fernando Calero

The method is exactly the same as in previous versions of iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1390
The only difference now is that by default the iPad will appear as a button at the upper-right of iTunes:
Click that all all should then work as per the directions. You can also go to the View menu and select "Show Sidebar" and iTunes 11 will then look substantially like earlier versions.
    Regards.

  • Problems with transfer of movies from Mac to external drive.

I want to transfer movies from my iTunes library to an external drive, in order to back them up for future use. I keep getting the message:
"The operation can’t be completed because the item “Cabaret.m4v” is in use."
How do I solve this problem?
    Kerneels

    Have you restarted your computer?
By the way, "transferring" is not the same as "backing up".  Backing up means more than one copy on separate drives.

  • Is there a way to separate home movies from the movies category?

I want to put home movies on my Apple TV but don't want them to show up along with movies. Is there a way to separate them? I haven't tried it yet so maybe they are separated but I foresee not being possible right now.
For the moment, I've been streaming my home movies from .mac

As Chenks says... just create a genre for them.... just RT-Click on the home movies (can actually multi-select all of then and do them all at once) and change the genre to "home" or whatever you'd like and then when you go to AppleTV go to Genres > "Home" and they will all appear together there.

  • Transfer Rented Movies from Apple TV V2 to Computer?!?!

I rented some movies on my Apple TV. Can I transfer them to my Mac that the Apple TV is synced with? I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I know that I can transfer rented movies from the Mac to the Apple TV, but the other way???
    Please someone let me know.
    -Christian

If you think you might need to watch your movie on anything other then Apple TV, rent it form iTunes on your computer. Once it is on your computer you can move it to an iPod, iPhone, and even Apple TV 2.0.
Under this system the only thing you can't do is have an HD rented movie on your computer. iPods and iPhones can't play that anyway. Yes, I think media giants sleep safer when HD movies are not on peoples "corruptible" computers and safe and sound on an "appliance".
The only way to make this any easier would be to allow SD rentals to transfer back to a computer but not HD. I think that would just add another layer of confusion.

  • HT1657 Why can't I transfer rented movies from my iPad to my Mac?

Why can't I transfer rented movies from my iPad to my Mac? This is absolutely senseless and annoying! I rented the movie and  should be able to watch it wherever I decide to!! A bit more concern for your clients, please...

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here. As far as I know Apple haven't given a reason, but you can try leaving feedback for them via this page : http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Home movies from DVD to Mac hard drive

I am an absolute neophyte at playing with video files. I have some VHS camcorder home movies from when my kids were little. A few months ago I asked the local photo shop to copy the videotapes onto DVDs. Now I'd like to save those videos as computer files on my mac, both to preserve them and (some day) edit them. I can't seem to figure out how to do this and any advice would be most welcome.
A week or so ago I tried Handbrake and it only copied a few seconds of video with audio that didn't match. Their support forum had something about using DVDtoOne but I couldn't understand what that was supposed to do so I didn't try it.
Yesterday I downloaded a trial copy of DVDxDV and asked it to make a file compatible with NTCS, Quicktime and iMovie. It seems that it worked wonderfully. However, the file it created from a two hour DVD is more than 25GB! I can't reasonably keep files that huge on my hard drive.
Is there a way to compress the file so that it is more like the size of the original DVD and still preserve the quality? (Maybe Quicktime Pro?)
Or, is there a better way to proceed so that I can preserve/edit these DVD files?
    Thanks,
    Perry

    Moreover, you could try Handbrake.
Handbrake is a software that converts DVD to any format you specify, and it does rely on the popular ffmpeg Unix program. (In fact, I bet most conversion software do rely on ffmpeg...).
I garantee Handbrake is not another of those programs, commonly called thing like DVD2iPod (I don't mean to harm this software if it does really exist) or DVDRIPMAGIX, or well... you know.
So, in Handbrake, there's a list of presets from which you can choose to convert the video to. You should perhaps leave it to Normal (which will encode it to a .mp4 movie, thus rendering you with a far lesser file than 25GB).
Of course, the 25GB you were prompted is an uncompressed file, like DV format is. It is used for editing from uncompressed source, but you are coming from a DVD, which is in the base, not an uncompressed source as far as I know. Thus explaining why the movie on the DVD is not 25GB.
I hope all this will be useful to you!

  • What is the best way to transfer home videos from one mac to another?

What is the best way to transfer home videos from one mac to another?

the commercial is deceiving to me. i am not the most techy person and i thought that you could share full song playlist which to me meant the songs also. that is all, it wasnt anything you had said but i am really thankful you enlightened me because i would still be racking my brain trying to figure out how to do it.
You can share songs, but if there is DRM protection on the song, it will not play on the other device unless you also transfer the rights to the other device. You are getting into the problem of music piracy.

  • I want to transfer purchased song from mac to mac using home sharing but retain all the song modifications I have done

I want to transfer purchased song from mac to mac using home sharing but retain all the song modifications I have done.  I am finding this very difficult

If your intention is to copy a just documents and data (word processing files and music for example) then yes, you can use drag and drop. If you want to transfer data and applications and permissions, it would actually be easiest to connect the drive to your old computer and turn on TimeMachine. Once TM is finished, connect the drive to your new computer and restart it holding the option key to get into Recovery mode. Then you can use the restore from TM option to transfer your data and programs to the new computer.

  • My Apple TV 2 won't accept home movies from iTunes

My Apple TV 2 won't accept certain home movies from iTunes but my Apple TV 3rd generation will. Some of my older home movies play on both units. Whats different about my new movies?

    Winston,
I've been having connection problems with my ATV2 for quite some time. Internet connections are fine, regardless of whether wired or via Ethernet, but it simply won't connect to my iTunes library (spinning wheel for ever). What "irks" me here is your comment below:
I'm a little concerned by the Apple TV not being seen in iTunes when you try to restore by micro USB, this is pretty much a last resort repair.
Is the ATV2 supposed to show up in iTunes and if so, how/where? It sure doesn't show up in my iTunes! I seem to be able to connect, as when I try to close iTunes after one of my many attempts to stream a movie I close iTunes it complaines that there's one or more ATVs connected.
@Peter: please do respond here as to whether a replacement ATV2 has solved your problems ... don't really want to shell out more money for it, but if it solves the problems...

  • HT201317 My husband bought an Ipad 3.  He gave me his Ipad 2.  How do we get home movies from the 2 to the 3?  I want to restore the 2 to the factory settings, but not lose these movies.

My husband bought an Ipad 3.  He gave me his Ipad 2.  How do we get the home movies from the 2 to the 3?  I would like to restore the 2 to factory settings.  As I understand, from reading "help", videos are NOT in the Photo Stream.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad
