I have a new computer running vista 64 bit.
Could someone give me some links or post topic references where I can find out how to transfer my i-tunes from my old computer to my new computer?

If by "unpurchased" you are referring to music that you obtained from CDs or other sources, you will have to restore the music from your backup or some other device such as a smartphone or music player.

If the computer only starts in safte mode, it is highly unlikely that network functionality works.
Copy or move the ENTIRE iTunes folder (and any other personal data you want) to an external drive.

Want to transfer songs and pics to new computer without old one

My old computer, somethings really wrong with the drivers, and it doesn't recognize my ipod or any usb device (we have given up trying to fix it, we've tried like everything, including reinstalling windows, therefore deleting all of my songs and itunes and everything. But the problem persists, and I can't even charge my ipod because its not recognized.)
So I bought a new laptop, and I want to transfer the songs to my new computer. Is that possible without using my old computer? and how do I do it? All the songs that I want to transfer are already on my ipod (at least I think that are, i can still listen to all of my songs on my ipod if I charge it with someone else's computer...and none of them are from the itunes store). What steps do I need to take to transfer them and is there a risk of all of my songs being deleted for some reason during transfer?
Help me please! and if you can't help me, is there any way I could email a tech support person who could?

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. Finally, If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Trying to put my old i tunes library on new computer - says cannot locate files

I have just installed i tunes onto my new computer, I followed the steps on line to transfer my old i tunes library onto my new computer (it was backed up on external hard drive). Now all the songs are showing, but when I click on them it brings up an exclamation mark and says it cannot locate the file.
Can someone please help me - I am a complete novice when it comes to technology.

I have managed to find a previous library on another external hard drive and managed to add folders to i tunes. It hasn't put all of the songs I had on previously on there, but it is all of the ones that I no longer have the cds for now. All of the other songs I have got cd's for so can just redo them.
I am assuming now that all the songs are back in i tunes this will be my most up to date i tunes library now. Once I have got my additional songs on would you recommend backing up the new library to an external drive again.

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. If you don't have access to the old computer any longer, '''no'''. Unless you were using something like the Google Toolbar & Google Bookmarks or Xmarks, which would have your bookmarks in an online account that you could access. Firefox doesn't include an online storage feature for personal data, yet. That is coming in a future version.
If you have a friend at your old job maybe they have access to that old PC and they could export your bookmarks to a file and email that file to you.

How do I transfer my playlists to a new computer without transferring all my music from the external hard drive?

I would like to transfer my itunes to a new computer but only see instructions to transfer all my music over including the playlists. All my music is currently stored on an external hard drive because it is a very large library of over 30GB so don't really want the music taking space on my laptop but want to have the playlists transferred over and be able to access my music library on the new computer through the external hard drive. Any idea how to do this?

As Chris says... but if the media is on an external drive as above then you also need to make sure the external drive has the same drive letter on the system you are moving to or iTunes won't be able to find the files.
