Transfer individual songs to a new computer

My wife has an iTunes library on her mac.  Both kids have been purchasing and downloading songs to this library and then synching the ones they want to their iPods.  Now that they both have their own macs, time for them to start their own iTunes libraries. How do we transfer just their own songs to new libraries on their own macs?

FileDrop.
As long as the receiving and sending computer are both connected to your network, they can send whatever they want from one to the other. Even wirelessly.

  • I have an older Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer these songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available

I have an oder Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer ths songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available?

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • I've just got a new computer does any one know how to transfer my song to my new computer. I've installed itunes but can't seem to transfer the songs

I've just got a new computer does any one know how to transfer my song to my new computer. I've installed itunes but can't seem to transfer the songs.

    you can use home sharing.
or, assuming you have all your media files in the default location, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from the old to the exact same location on the new machine.
you can either use your network or an external HD for that.

Yes, just connect your phone to your computer and sync it to itunes. (if its a mac it will already have itunes downloaded, but if not you will need to download itunes)

  • Transfer ALL songs/videos to new computer from ipod?

i got some of the songs on my ipod from a cd... my old computer died and i sold the cd... i transfered everything i purchased from itunes from my touch to my mac, but it wouldnt transfer those songs, but they are still on my ipod.... how do i transfer them all? also, i have family guy episodes i got from itunes on my computer that wont go onto my ipod, and i have non itunes downloaded family guy that wont go onto my mac.. how do i get everything on both?

For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How can i transfer my songs to my new computer? not using an ipod!

Okay, not that the whole ipod hard drive situation is convenient anyway. I mean I didn't even realize that there was a certain way to save the files in need of transferring the songs. Here's the situation. I was using my boyfriend's dad's computer till I got mine, and I got mine only a week before coming to Japan. I was crunched for time, and I guess I didn't research it thoroughly, but knew I could use my ipod to transfer the songs. So I downloaded the songs onto my ipod. It wasn't till later when I realized why it wasn't working. Well now I'm in a bit of a pickle because I won't be able to get my ipod hooked up with that computer till next May. My boyfriend is coming to visit however next month, and was wondering if there was a convenient way for him to save the files, short of 50 cds, to allow me to transfer my music when he gets here. I searched the forums, but they all seem foreign! Can anyone help me?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Are data DVDs expensive? and where can I find them? Once I get them, can I use the same steps as transferring songs using my old ipod? Couldn't find anything on transferring songs not with an ipod. Do I have to change preferences before saving them onto the DVD's. I can't seem to find that page again, but it seemed pretty specific about the steps I needed to take before saving the files onto the ipod and after hooking it up with the new computer. Can you help me with this?
    Sincerely, Diana

  • How do i transfer my songs to a new computer?

I recently got a new laptop and I havnt loaded my ipod on here yet because I am scared if I do it will erase all my songs that I have on it. Does anyone know if this will happen? If not what should i do?
    Compaq   Windows XP Pro   Laptop

    1) If Itunes is already installed disk use may need to enabled so you can see the Ipod in my computer. Itunes hides your ipod from windows otherwise.
    2) Make sure you can view hidden files. In MY computer go to tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.
    3) Windows should see the ipod and your music should be on your ipod in several hidden folders. To be safe I would copy it all to say your desktop.
    4) Install Itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the Ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ (if you don't already have it installed)
After that drag the copied folder to Itunes (drag and drop or in Itunes (File>add folder to library)
You may need to authorise your new computer by playing it in the library first.

  • Trying to transfer songs to a new computer

I was using my ipod as an external hard drive to transfer songs to my new computer. I followed all the instructions from this site to the letter, and yet when I ejected the ipod from the one computer and plugged it into the new one, it said the ipod was corrupted and would have to be restored, which as I understand it will erase everything on the ipod. Anybody have any experience with this? As a side note, when I tried to check to see if I could still download the music files from the ipod-as-hard-drive, my new computer said the hard disc had to be formatted first which again will erase everthing in the files. Do I have to format the ipod as a hard disc first and then go back and do the whole drag songs to a file thing all over again? Sorry for how long this is, but thanks if anyone can shed some light.

Sadly it sounds as though you may have to restore it and do this process over again.

  • I cant sync songs on a new computer because it'll replace my ipod with only the songs on that itunes

Every time I try to sync my music, it says itunes will replace ipod contents with contents from itunes library but i have alot of songs on there so I don't want to lose them.  I do have a new computer but my old one is dead so I can't do that "home sharing" thing

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to yur new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other stuff by using the information provided in this previous discusion:
    Best iPod to PC
    - They let iTunes erase your iPod and replace its contents with what is now in your itunes library.

  • Help in Transferring songs to a new computer...

Hi! Can anyone help me? I'm having problems in transferring my songs to a new computer. I used to have a PC but it needed a reformat so all the songs were erased. I wasn't able to copy the iTunes Folder to my iPod, but are the songs in my iPod enough? I would like to transfer them to my Mac.

I am sorry, but can you please be a little bit more clear with what you are asking? I don't exactly understand your post.
So are the songs on our iPod or are they not? Is your iPod formatted for PC or Windows?
    Post back with more details!
