Transfer info from Dell to MBP

I just got a MBP and I need to take all of my info off of my Dell and put it on my MBP. How do i do that???

San Antonio,
Let me ask about iTunes, which I want to use my library of tunes from an external firewire drive. They are there as I had problems with a PWB and installing Tiger in April. Now I'd like to use it with MBP, AND retain my playlist titles! Is that posible, or do I need to recreate the playlists titles, while the library remains in the external.
I MBP is slow in Safari, and I am trying to minimize stuff. My iTunes library is about 12gb of music.
Next, I am trying to plan to be in San Antonio in January for convention! Any suggestions? I was trying to email direct. [email protected]
Thanks, George

You can boot the computer that you would like to get the file from into target disk mode.

How do you transfer info from a external hard drive from a pc to a imac?

Expanding on what Niel said, a Mac can mount and read just about any hard drive from a Windows system. It can't write to an NTFS-formatted drive without third-party drivers, but it can read them. So as Niel indicated, you should be able to just connect the drive to your Mac and drag-copy over whatever you want. If you want to save things from the Mac to that drive, then it will need to be formatted either as FAT32 or exFAT, or if it's NFTS you'll again need drivers.

  • Transfer info from Ibook G4 10.3.9 to new MacBook Pro

    Hi
How do I transfer files from my Ibook G4 10.3.9 to a new MacBook Pro? There is no migration assistant on 10.3.9. I have tried a firewire cable but it doesn't recognise the old computer.
    Help appreciated.
    Thanks Kay

If firewire cables don't work then I would do it manually via a 4 gb flash drive. But follow this article for info:

  • Just got an iphone 5s, I'm trying to transfer info from old phone but it's for a password to unlock iphone backup, I;ve never had a password for this before. How do I get the password?

    Hi,
I've just bought an Iphone 5s, I'm trying to sync it to transfer all my info from my iphone 4 but when I click on continue to restore from this back up, it's asking for a password. I didn't have a password for the previous phone. Can anyone help?

If the backup you're trying to restore from is encrypted, & you don't know the encrypted passcode, the backup will be unusable & you will not be able to recover any data from it. Encrypting an iPhone backup is not done automatically. You, or someone, had to elect to encrypt it to begin with, and no, there is no default passcode.
Did you have an Exchange account on your iPhone 4? It is common for Corp. Exchange accounts to require an iPhone backup be encrypted. If you did, you might try your Exchange password.

  • How can I transfer info from my iCloud to a new iCloud?

Currently the iCloud my family is using is being shared. I need to transfer the info from the current iCloud to some new ones. I know things like apps won't transfer without using the original ID. I need to transfer contacts, calendars, and reminders. The apps are not a big deal because we share a mac with iTunes. Once all the info is on the new iClouds have receive the info then we can mange info separately.

Export the data you want to transfer to a local file, create the new accounts and import what you want into them.

Thanks Alot that works with purchasing a hard drive do you know any particular good ones?
Well you only really have a choice of Seagate and Western Digital now, however if you buy Hitachi external drive, even though WD owns them, it should be the best drive of all, certainly better than Segate + Maxor.
I would like to have one wireless.
External drives are wired, but you can hook them to a router and the router acts as the wireless data transfer to the hard drive.

  • How do I know which iTunes area to use to transfer info from my old iPhone to my new iPhone? There are too many iTune areas specific for music or movies, etc. none specified for iPhone transfers.

Which iTunes area do I access to transfer my info from my old iPhone to my new iPhone?  Music, movies, iU?  I don't see any specific for iPhone transfers.

Thanks for your reply but maybe it would be helpful if you could elaborate a bit on that or maybe I was not clear enough in my question. What I need to do is NOT stop using icloud. But gather everything that is already stored in my old icloud account (X) and save it in my device (iphone, ipad etc) and then continue using icloud but with my new account (Y).
    In a scheme:
    "->" = "becomes"
Step 1) data from X -> independent device data, and then the X account is removed from the device while the data stays.
Step 2) account Y is added to the device.
Step 2 continued) now the device has a. "the independent device data" that was drawn from the account X and b. the litte piece of data from Y that I have already created.
Step 3) independent device data -> data in account Y (along with everything that is created from now on, and everything that has been stored there. The little piece mentioned above.) Everything should now be merged in Y. Merged in a "good" way. Not overwritten, not deleted etc. Nothing should be lost (old or new, from the device or from X or from Y).
The last step is kind of optional. If the best I can get is having data associated to Y (future and past) AND "independent device data" that is so independent to the point that it cannot be added to my Y account since icloud recognizes and stores only data that is created after the account's addition to the device, then I can deal with that.
I hope I cleared everything out.
I need my notes and pages documents from my old icloud account to become independent device data and just stick to the device. And then, if possible, be uploaded to my new icloud account.

  • HT4623 Have a new iphone 5 and trying to transfer info from old iphone. Seems like the new phone is stuck on the choose backup page and I cant seem to get it to move. Help!?

Have a new Iphone and trying to set up. Got to the page choose back up and both old phone and ipad are showing but cant select either and its just sitting there. what should i be doing?

You can transfer the purchases you made on your old iPhone 3 by plugging it in to iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from your IPhone to the iTunes on your computer.  This will get music you purchased in iTunes, apps, etc.  (e.g., movies).
But for the rest you would need to restore a backup of your newly deceased computer.

  • Transfer info from hp laptop to new macbook pro

    hello
I just recently brought a macbook pro for school. as the title states i am going from pc (windows XP) to mac (snow leopard), finally. I have an external harddrive but have a few questions on syncing my iPhone 3G and iPod classic over.
-Should i copy my music over first?
-How do i sync my iPhone without losing contacts/ music? (i have moble me, but i am still concerned with losing info)
-How do i sync my iPod with out losing playlists?
    thank you
    bb

All iTunes content should be in your iTunes named folder on your PC, which I believe is located in your Music or My Music folder located in your Documents or My Documents folder.
If you haven't already done so, you need to authorize your MBP with your iTunes account with iTunes.
With iTunes quit on your MBP, transfer the iTunes folder from your PC to your Music folder on your MBP. This should not require your iPhone being erased first of all iTunes content when selecting sync music, video, podcasts, and 3rd party apps under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences, but all 3rd party apps downloaded with your iPhone need to be in your iTunes library on your PC or they will be erased from your iPhone the first time you sync 3rd party apps with iTunes on your MBP.
There is an option for syncing direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences. Since you have a MobileMe account, you don't need to select this.
When you create your MobileMe account with the Mail.app on your MBP, this should create your MobileMe account at System Preferences > MobileMe.
Under the Sync tab for your MobileMe account preferences at System Preferences > MobileMe is where you select sync with MobileMe automatically or manually and below is where you select bookmarks with Safari, contacts with the Address Book, and calendar events with iCal.

  • How to transfer files from dell to Mac?

Hi everybody my parents for xmas have bought me a new applemacbook. woowowo however i have had my dell inspiron 1525 for 6 years so have quite alot of pictures files and downloaded music.  I have itunes and know how to transfer all that side of it but how do i transfer everything else like my documents pictures and odd bits i find?  Also how do i transfer my converted music to the mac without having to redownload/sync and all that?
I am 15 and am not tech savvy like abriviations and that different softwares and i cannot afford cables and that to trnasfer it as i have seen some people use.
sorry not much to go on

Hands4 has posted a link to an article about Apple's PC migration assistant. Take a good look at the article. It is a novice friendly way to transfer your stuff - documents, pictures, music, contacts, and email from the PC to your Mac. I strongly recommend that if you choose this method that you use it the very first time you start up your Mac.
If you aren't concerned about keeping your mail and contacts it is also easy just to use an external drive or a flash drive to copy stuff from one computer to the other. Plotinus refers to formating the drive in a way that both Windows and  Mac OS can read/write to it but no matter how the drive is formatted the Mac will be able to copy the files from it.
When my sister finally dumped Windows she was using Google Mail so all her contacts and email info was on Google. That made it easy for her to move into her new Mac with just a 32GB flash drive. Also, since she was using iTunes with her iPhone already most of her music could be redownloaded to the Mac which also made things a bit easier for her.
