Transfer info from Ibook G4 10.3.9 to new MacBook Pro

Hi
How do I transfer files from my Ibook G4 10.3.9 to a new MacBook Pro? There is no migration assistant on 10.3.9. I have tried a firewire cable but it doesn't recognise the old computer.
Help appreciated.
Thanks Kay

If firewire cables don't work then I would do it manually via a 4 gb flash drive. But follow this article for info:

How do I transfer Notes from my iPhone4s and iPad to my new 13" MacBook Pro with retina display?

    Finally figured it out...
    1) Open mail/compose notes on your macbook...
    2) copy and paste every note from Outlook to a new note in Mail.
    3) Open iTunes. In Info/Advanced tick Notes. This will replace / copy all Notes from Mail to your iPhone...
    4) Voila! Notes are on iPhone...
I must say in spite of all the fabulous advantages of a Macbook and an iPhone, syncing really does suck...
Transferring data from another smartphone to a Mac or an iPhone is tough...
Features like "one way / two way" sync for Phone / computer or allowing us to select which whose, phone or computer, will be considered more important so that you can choose whose data will overwrite the other, are not there in iTunes... This is something which really needs to be there...
    Anyways... problem solved for now...

  • How do I Transfer Data from my B/W G3 to my new Macbook Pro by firewire?

I just bought a new Macbook Pro and want to move my photo and music files from my G3 to my new computer as efficiently as possible. I thought firewire was the way to go but just learned that I cant put my G3 in target mode. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks!

Macs running 7.5.3 or later can share files easily with Macs running any version of Mac OS X up to 10.3.9, and with a little more complexity any Mac OS X through 10.4.10.
The learning curve is a bit steeper. But this illustrated article will guide you:
    http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/os9xnet_nfilesharing.html
Mac OS X 10.4 was revised to make room for Intel Protocols, and AppleTalk-only File Sharing was removed \[AppleTalk Printer Sharing still works]. To do File Sharing with Macs before Mac OS 9, you must initiate the Sharing from the Older Mac or use a third-party program called Shareway IP:

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to how I can transfer data from an extracted hard drive off of a Macbook Pro onto a new Retina model? No SATA port!!!

    Hello,
I'm trying to transfer data from my old hard drive (taken out of Macbook Pro 2009) onto a new Macbook Pro Retina.  My ignorance is vast and I purchased an eSATA device to do so, not thinking that there is no SATA port on this new computer.  Is there a special cable or anything anyone can recommend?  I'd be very grateful for some help here.

I would just get a cheap USB enclosure from OWC, put your old drive in it, and use it it transfer the data to your new rMBP. Cheap and simple. The one I spec'ed is for a USB 3.0 enclosure as you have USB 3.0 ports on your computer - much faster than USB 2.0.

Good luck and you are welcome.
Like I said, I bought one of their inexpensive enclosures and now can use the hard drive just as a source for the files that are on it...my external drives are much larger and faster so I just plug that drive in when I need something from it.
This one is on sale for $16 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ES2.5BPU2S/

  • Can I transfer music and photos from my 17" PowerBook G4 to a new MacBook Pro?

I am planning to buy a new MacBook Pro in the next couple of weeks. Can I have the "Genius" at the Apple Store transfer my music and pictures from my current PowerBook to the new computer? My current computer is a 17" PowerBook G4, running OS X 10.5.8. Because of the age of my computer and software limitations I have been unable to use iCloud for anything besides my calendar and contacts.

Yes, flash drive would work fine.
If all you care about is music and photos, as you indicated earlier, then you simply need to copy the entire contents of your Music and Pictures folders from the old computer into the Music and Pictures folders on the new computer. A flash drive will work fine as long as it is big enough. If you want to also move over personal files, typically those are in your Documents folder and possibly your Desktop, so don't forgot about those.
If you want to migrate over all your emails, applications, internet and router settings, web browser favorites, bookmarks, preferences, user names and accounts, etc., then you might consider doing the full migration using Setup Assistant upon the very first boot up. Apple will do this for you, for a fee, as will almost any Apple-authorized computer store (also for a fee, but probably for a bit less than Apple would charge). You can actually do this manually, using the external drive or flash drive, and I have done that myself. But you need to know where the files are to do that properly. The Setup Assistant (which is run upon the very first boot up of the new computer) or Migration Assistant (which is run after you have booted into your new computer at least once) make it pretty easy -- the main thing you need to do is hook the computers up with a firewire cable and follow Apple's instructions; or if that is not possible, the next best thing is to make a complete backup of your old computer onto an external drive using Time Machine (or a cloning program like SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner) and migrate from the backup.

  • How do I transfer my contacts from my old Powerbook G4 to my new Macbook Pro?

how do I transfer my contacts from my old Powerbook G4 to my new one Macbook Pro?
new Macbook Pro is operating on OSX 10.8.2
When I save it as an export then try to open it on the new computer it wants me to delete all my current contacts before it will import.
    What happened to MERGING?

On the PowerBook G4, open Address Book and choose File > Back up Address Book...
Save it to your Desktop or directly to the MBP if it is already connected. Otherwise copy the Address Book backup file to the MacBook Pro. Email is also an option.
On the MacBook Pro, open (double-click) the Address Book Backup (abbu) file:
Contacts will launch and display the following:
Click Replace All which will do what it says.
Using Migration Assistant to migrate from Tiger to Mountain Lion simply does not work. Tiger to Lion works, Tiger to Mountain Lion does not. Apple does not provide specific directions regarding the use of Migration Assistant from Tiger to ML, only Tiger to Lion.

  • Is it possible to transfer photos from my 4th ten nano to my new macboob pro?

I am trying to transfer the photos from my old 4th generation ipod nano to my new MacBook Pro (mavericks). I have been trying to do this for about a year as 2 years ago the laptop which the iPod was synced with had some issues which caused it to be restored as in everything that was ever on the computer was wiped off the face of the earth. This including photos from my childhood. However luckily i had the photos on my nano and thought that i would be able to transfer them back onto my old mac but i had absolutely no idea how to do this. So now i have my MacBook Pro i would really love to try and put the lost photos back onto my new laptop but i am having no luck. So, im asking is it actually possible and if so how? Any help would really be appreciated as it would be lovely to have my family's childhood photos back. Thank you.

  • HOW DO I TRANSFER PC ITUNES FILES FROM WESTERN DIGITAL EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE TO NEW MACBOOK PRO?

I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT MY NEW MACBOOK PRO AND ITS SUPPOSE TO BE HERE TOMORROW! THERE IS ONE MAJOR CONCERN I HAVE THOUGH, I HAVE ALL MY MUSIC FILES ON MY WESTERN DIGITAL ELEMENTS HARD DRIVE (1TB). THE HD IS FORMATTED FOR WINDOWS THOUGH. I WATCHED YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON HOW TO REFORMAT THE HD TO MAC BUT IT ERASES EVERYTHING OFF THE HD. SO TWO QUESTIONS,
1.HOW DO I TAKE MUSIC OFF OF MY EXTERNAL HD AND PUT IT ON MY NEW MAC EVEN THOUGH ITS WINDOWS FORMAT AND NOT HAVE IT ERASED WHEN I FORMAT TO MAC?
    2. HOW DO I REFORMAT THE EXTERNAL HD FROM PC TO MAC AND WHAT OPTION SHOULD I SELECT?
    THANKS

I'm very glad your excited about getting your first Mac.
On the Internet, it's not polite to use ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT MEANS YOUR SHOUTING!!!
So with that out of the way.

First your Mac is going to need to read the external drive.
Mac's can read exFAT (since 10.6.5), FAT32 and HFS+ (Mac format) external drives.
I'm going to assume your drive is formatted NTFS, the Windows format that is also on the boot drive of Windows machines.
For that your need to install a free piece of software on the Mac here (bookmark this page!)
    NTFS Mounter (for WindowsNTFSdrives)
That will allow your Mac to read the NTFS formatted drive.  You then get all your files off that you want to save.

Once you have gotten all your files off, in the Applications/Utilities folder on the Mac is a program called Disk Utility and it looks like this.
You select your external drive on the left and click Erase > Format > exFAT and click Erase. A warning will pop up and you say ok.
The exFAT format can be read on both Windows PC's and Mac's. Allows for large file sizes over 4GB.
Now this format is for going between Windows and a Mac. Windows Vista and 7 can read this format fine, if you have XP you need to download a free update for exFAT from Microsoft (its easy to find, just search for  "exFAT XP microsoft")
Now! however there has been one report that the exFAT formatted on a Mac didn't work on the PC. So if that happens, just format the drive exFAT on Windows first, then the Mac should see it. So check first before doing anything and have a copy of the data elsewhere just in case.
Now if you intend to use the external drive for TimeMachine or a Carbon Copy Cloner/Superduper clone (like "Ghosting") of the OS X boot drive, then you need to format the drive HFS+ journaled in Disk Utility and it cant' be read natively in most cases by a PC unless you install adiditonal software on the PC. (and likely the PC can't read a TimeMachine drive, I don't know I haven't tried it, so your on your own on that)

  • Can I transfer my music from a Windows formatted iPod to my new MacBook Pro?

I just ordered a 15 inch 2.3 ghz MacBook Pro and I can't wait to get it. The only thing I am wondering is if I will have any trouble transferring all of my music from my Windows formatted iPod (8gb 3rd generation iPod Nano) to the new MacBook Pro. Should I be able to follow all the steps in this article without any problems?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

In the iPod's user manual should be instructions on how to put the iPod into disk mode so that it will appear as an external hard drive. You can then copy your music to the Mac.

  • I would like to migrate my idvd from my old Mac powerbook to my new Macbook pro? How to do it? Can someone show me the steps?

my new Macbook Pro does not have idvd and my old one has, so would like to transfer my idvd from my old mac to my new one. Can i do that? and how? thanks.

Right, I finally managed to get it sorted out.
iCloud only accept version 3.0 vcards, and the one I was using were version 2.1 so that's why it wasn't picking it up. So the easy way to get that sorted out is, use a gmail account.
I know you don't wanna do it because you think it's too much hassle and stuff, but trust me it only takes 5 minutes and that's it.
    1. Create a Gmail Account.
    2. Export your Old VCard files to the Gmail Account.
    3. Now Import them from Gmail to your PC again.
And, that's it, that's just makes the new imported version in 1 file contains your all contacts in version 3.0. Now you can just upload that on icloud and then sync it with your iphone.
That's what I did and it worked, and I am sure if you wanna replace this file in the Contacts folder under your User Account in Windows and then try to sync Contacts in Tunes, it should work, but as I said, I did it with iCloud and it worked for me. So aye, that's pretty much it. Phewwww..
Been searching for it for the whole day and it took 5 minutes in the end, badass...
Anyway, don't lose hope and always Google for everything!
