Transfer info to new user

I just added my wife as a user on my eMac i'd like to know what is the best way to put some of my music from my iTunes and some photos from iPhoto on her iTunes & iPhoto also my address book

Export the songs, photos, and address book records into individual files in the /Users/Shared/ folder, and then log in from the new account and import those files into the applications you exported them from.

  • I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc).  I want to merge the files from these transfers into my main user account.  Help?

I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc).  I want to merge / consolidate the files from these newly created User accounts into my main user account.  Is there a tutorial for this process, or any tips?  Anyone?

Four transfers.  After the initial attempt with Migration Assistant failed (after hours and hours of wifi transfer) I did "mini-transfers" of more manageable, smaller bits of files -- my music in one, photos in another, etc.  Since posting my question in this forum, i contacted Apple support, chatted with Angela, and she suggested getting an ethernet-USB adapter for my mac, connecting my external drive with ethernet and transferring files manually -- that is, NOT using the Migration Assistant at all.  She sent me this link to help:  Switch Basics: Migrate your Windows files to your Mac.  I appreciate your response, tho', Csound1!

  • Transfer data to new user

Ok here is my question. I am not trying to transfer data to a different computer. What I want to do is transfer the user files (pics, music, documents) from one user to another.
What happened was my sister really messed up her user account putting things in every which direction. And the user account doesnt function very well. The user account cannot run some apps. Apps closes. I dont konw whats going on.
What I want to do is create a new user and transfer her data (pics, music and documents) to that new user and then ultimately deleted the corrupted user. How can I do this. Because I see that I cant access info of another user from within a current user.
Am I being clear or not really getting through correctly?

you can copy what you need from the old user to a separate location which is accessible to all users like /Users/Shared. then log into the new user and copy them back to the new home directory. see this link on what to copy

Rather than use migration assistant, another approach is to manually transfer just what you need (from your identity on your preexisting mac) and then reinstall your applications. That way, you don't inadvertently transfer corrupted files and you start with a fresh slate on your new Mac.
You can start up your old mac with the T pushed down, engaging Target Mode, and plug it into your new mac with a Firewire cable. To your new mac, your old mac will just look like a hard drive. Then, you select the folders on your old computer you'd like to be on your new one, and simply slide them over.

  • Transfer iPad to new user

I just got my husband's old iPad 2. When I try to update the apps I get a prompt identifying his Apple ID and asking for the password rather than mine.   How do I make the iPad mine rather than his?

For the OP's sake, I think we should clarify that, if she sets up her iPad "as new," her husband's apps will be gone and she will not be able to download them under her own Apple ID without paying for them again (unless they're free apps, of course).
On the bright side, if she leaves them there, she does NOT have to sign out of her ID and back into his in order to update them. She will just get a prompt to enter his Apple ID password.

  • Transfer info to new computer for syncing

I just got a new MBP coming from an older mb. How do i sync my iphone to the new computer without loosing the information already on it?
    Thanks

You need to move everything from the old computer to the new one, then sync.
You can use migration assistant to do this or target mode or your backup.

All you need to do is simply restore the iPod to factory settings and then hand it over.  Restoring the iPod wipes all content from the iPod and sets it back to its original default settings.

  • Transfer files from PC without creating a new user

Is it possible to use the Migration Assistant to transfer files (documents and photos) from a PC to my new MacBook WITHOUT creating a new user? And why the frick does the Setup Assistant not warn you on initial startup that if you do not transfer files then - you can only do it by creating a seperate user. This should be simple. Transfer files. sounds easy.

It is user friendly - that's why it asks you to migrate all of your info in the very beginning during the setup of your new Mac.
Migration Assistant creates a new user after it does its job. There's no way around that.
You can either manually move the files over from your PC into the Mac or you can use MA, let it create a new user and then share those files between the new user and your current user. When you're done you can then delete the newly (and now empty) migrated user. You cannot migrate files from another computer and have them placed into your current user.

  • HT1206 Lots of info about one user using multiple computers. What about multiple users with separate Apple IDs using same computer? Having problems getting my wifes new iPhone talking to her apple account on the computer we share (2 users)

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

  • Transfer old Apple ID purchase info to New Apple ID for iCloud purposes

Transfer old Apple ID purchase info to New Apple ID for iCloud purposes
I currently have an apple ID that i have used for many years of ABC.  This will hold all the apps and songs etc that i have purchased over the years.  So i can currently download apps from app store using the new "purchased option" from the "Cloud".
I have just set up and wish to make a new account my main account for iCloud and all purchases.  This is XYZ . How do i get all the purchase history and account actions from ABC apple id, to map across to the new XYZ apple id.
My objective is to log into my iphone on itunes, app store and icloud using the new XYZ apple id, but still be able to view and download any and all previous purchases held against the ABC apple id.
Can I/Apple port this account over so all history of purchases on ABC apple id, is now held against the new XYZ apple id.
    Thanks

RE all those that say it cannot be done or why do i want to or need to...
When my phone (on iOS 5) had the old/main apple ID logged in and used, the iCloud page where you can enable iCloud for apps, mail, notes etc - it would not allow me to turn on mail or notes for iCloud.  Said i needed to create an iCloud/Mobileme address to use these features.
When i created new mobile/iCloud account today it worked fine for all iCloud options on my iPhone.  Also, the emailed address for mobileme/icloud was more to my needs/liking.
The new mobileme/icloud ID created today cannot have my main email address added to it as it says my current/main apple id is that email address.
    Any suggestions?

  • Can I transfer songs from my admin account to a new user account?

I want to start using a user account as my main account instead of the admin account. I bought a bunch of songs from iTunes and downloaded them to my admin account.
Can I transfer these songs from my admin account to a new user account and then de-authorized the songs on my admin account?
    Thanks,
    Mark

If you don't change your iTMS account, you don't have to de-authorize.
Your computer is already authorized to play the songs.
This article tells you more about (de)authorization.
    Hope this helps.
