Transfer iPad 1 sim card to new iPad?

I have an Unlimited Data Plan with AT&T on my old iPad 1.  I'd like to get a newer iPad, can I just transfer my old SIM card into the new iPad and keep my Unlimited Data Plan?  I believe the SIM card was changed from a micro to a nano SIM card beginning with the new iPad Air, is this correct?  If so, it sounds like I'd be limited to an (AT&T) iPad 4.
I also want a new basic iPhone and plan.  I'm currently with T-Mobile (good cost but mediocre coverage), do any carriers offer good packages with both phones and iPads?
Thanks

I have no special affinity for the SIM card, I just want to keep the Unlimited 3G Data Plan.  I'm getting conflicting info on how to do it.  This MacWorld article below says you can just put the old SIM card into the new iPad to keep your Data Plan, without contacting AT&t.  My questions: 1. Can I transfer my Unlimited 3G Data Plan to the new iPad Air?  or 2. Am I limited to transferring my Unlimited 3G Data Plan to a iPad that uses 3G and has the same type of SIM card (iPad 4 or earlier)?  3. Can I do this on my own by swapping SIM cards and updating my Cellular Settings, or do I need to get AT&T involved?

Can you take the SIM card from an IPad and transfer it to a NEW Ipad (not yet purchased) without any problems? Are there any complicated steps involved? This is for my boss.
Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

    Simple answer is YES.
The only caviat is for instance in the UK some iPads are locked to a specific network provider and therefore if the new iPad is locked then it will only work on the specific network it is locked to.

  • How do I transfer my account To my new ipad?

I have a new Mini/Retina that I want to replace my iPad 2 with.  I want to use my same old AT&T account for cellular/data connection, so how do I transfer my account To my new iPad?
The guy at the AT&T store (where I bought the Mini) said I would have to start it as a backup from the old machine, and I might have to switch SIM cards (believable), but there must be more to it than that.  At what point shoud I shut off the old iPad account?  If I do it at the wrong time it seems like there should be a conflict (perhaps the SIM card).  Is there a procedure posted anywhere?  (He also gave me a 1-800 number to call for help - so I suspect I'll need it.  But you guys are so good, I'll start here.)
    TIA

If your iPad 2 has a newer iOS version than your new iPad Air then you'll need to update the iPad Air to newest iOS before you can restore it from the iPad 2's backup. Its conceivable that being in the store the new iPad air does not have the most recent iOS installed.
Anyway as to the AT&T service. you should not have to anything on the old iPad.
Simply remove the sim card, go to your AT&T store and ask for a new sim that fits your new iPad with your current service on it. Then simply insert the new sim card into the new iPad.  In the process of setting up the new sim card, the old one will be deactivated by AT&T.
Without a sim card the old iPad will have no cell service.

  • Bad SIM card crashing my iPad?

Although now I have an idea of this problem, but I'm still a little concerned.
I have an iPad 64gb 3g/wifi purchased last Aug, and I have been using AT&T and FET (a provider in Taiwan) micro sim card since, because I travel constantly so I have been swapping the 2 sim cards on regular basis.
About 2 weeks ago, as I'm flying to Anchorage, I inserted AT&T sim, it's fine at the beginning, but after a few minutes, I get a 'no service' on the top left corner, and then the ipad goes into recovery mode (displaying a USB icon asking me to connect to itunes), which I did.
Then itunes tells me that an ipad in recovery mode is detected, so I need to restore it..bla bla bla, and which I did too.
At the end of the restore process, itunes tells me that 'We're sorry, we're unable to continue with the recovery process, please contact apple or try again latter'
I've made multiple attempts, with and without any sim card, but keep getting the message.
So I made an appointment with Apple in LA, and I went there. They weren't able to recover it as well, and since there're some dent on the back of the ipad, they claim that it is damaged and couldn't be fixed, so I needed to purchase a new one.
As I was thinking about buying an ipad 2 or wait for ipad 3, I left the device for a few days without touching it, and the battery when completely dead (which is normal). Just 2 days ago, I picked it up and made my last attempt.
Without any sim card, the recovery was successful, and everything when back to normal, I was so excited and I put the AT&T sim back in, boom.. after a couple of minutes, the same thing happened again. So I had to restore it again, only this time, the recovery was successful.
I figured it was either 1) AT&T sim card problem, or 2) 3g function problem. To determine it, just tonight after I return to Taiwan, I inserted my FET sim card and no problems occurred!!!
I suspect it's the AT&T sim card that's causing it, any suggestions or different opinions? Because I'm thinking about getting a new AT&T sim card when I return to the US after a few days.

Is there a SIM card in my iPad ?? What's the scoop Verizon vs AT&T ?
If you have an AT&T iPad 3G, there is a SIM card. If it is a Verizon iPad 3G, there is no SIM card. Whether you prefer to use AT&T or Verizon really depends on the which one has better coverage in your area. However, it sounds as if you already have the iPad, so I'm not completely clear what your asking.

  • How do I transfer all my data from my original iPad 1 to my new iPad Air?

How do I transfer all my data from my original iPad 1 to my new iPad Air?

Do a full sync and backup of your one. I use iTunes for all my backing up. Then unplug the one and plug in the Air. Go through the setup process and when you have the choice to 'set up as new or restore from backup' chooose the the restore and your air will be a near clone of your One. You will need to reset up wifi and website passwords, but the data should be there.
Once you are sure the Air has all you need on it, you can go into the settings and 'erase all content and settings' which puts your One back to the 'out of box' state to you can sell it if you want.

  • Can I put my iphone sim card into my ipad mini?

Can I put my iphone sim card into my ipad mini?

Depends on the model of iPhone, and the actual cellular plan it has.
If its an iPhone 5 with an unlimited Data Plan you may be able to do it.
Any other model of iPhone or a plan without a data packcage will not work.

Nope. You cannot connect sim cards to iPads. You can insert them into the iPad's sim tray if it has one. Which if its is a Wifi only model it wil not have the tray nor the cellualr hardware to do anytihng with it.

Can you install a SIM card in a iPad model MD510B/AR

Nope this appears to be a WiFi model only if my information is correct. If you have the device to hand then check it for a SIM card tray. With the Home key at the bottom the SIM card try if available will be in the top-left corner.
