Transfer iPhone from pc to mac

I have my iphone synced to a very old pc and want to transfer it to a mac pro.  I have heard this is very complex and you risk losing everything.  Does anyone have any advice?

Hello ninjahen,
Congratulations on your new computer!  I certainly understand your concern with syncing your iPhone with a new computer.
To avoid any issues with using a new computer, I recommend transferring your iTunes Library to the new computer and to backup your iPhone.  Find steps to accomplish this in the following links:

• Transfer iPhone from PC to Mac without losing anything

I know this question has been asked dozens of times, but I just want to get an answer that I know will work for me.
When I got my first iPod I had to set it up on my family's computer as I didn't own a computer. Later on I got an iPhone, and while I had my Mac, I set it up with the family computer to keep my music.
I've been wanting to move my iPhone to my Mac for awhile, but all the guides I've found don't give me all the info I need. I want to keep my iPhone exactly as it is, so that when I connect it with my Mac it acts as if nothing is wrong. I've seen how to consolidate the iTunes library, but I'm confused about App Data. I want to keep all my scores on my games, and I haven't seen a straight answer on whether they will stay.
So is there a way to move my music, apps, photos, texts, data, app locations, play count, notes, contacts, etc. to a new computer? If so is there an online guide that outlines the best way to do this? Is it as easy as following this guide? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
My PC is running XP and my MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.6.8.
Thanks in advance!

Basically you need to move the Entire iTunes Library from the PC to the Mac...

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

How to transfer movies from my Apple Mac to my ipad.?

Where are these movies? what format do they have?
You'll need to Import them into iTunes, and sync them through there if they aren't in itunes already.
Yoiu may need to convert them to a playable format for the iPad. If its a video format itunes support, you ncan make playable versions for iPad from within iPad.
Alternatively if you find a Video App such as Moli Player you can import them into the App through iTunes File sharing as well without having to change their format. Moli player is capable of playing many types of videos and audio formats.

You would download and install the Mac version, and then move or copy your images and your catalog and other Lightroom files to the new computer. You activate with the same serial number you have been using. Here are some of the considerations you might want to look at:

• How do i reconfigure my iphone from windows to mac?

I would like to reformat my iphone from windows to mac without loosing the music on my iphone. Is this possible? Or would I have to factory reset my phone?

There is no reformat necessary as such. An iPhone can only synchronize to a single computer, though, so when you connect your iPhone to the new computer, you'll be told that your iPhone is synched to a different computer and given the choice of erasing the content on the iPhone or transferring iTunes Store purchases to the new iTunes. The best approach is probably to copy the entire contents of the iTunes folder in your Windows system to your Mac. Then your iPhone should still think it's being synched to the same library and be fine. Someone here can point you to instructions on how to move your iTunes library if you need them.
Regards.

• Transfer iPhone videos to my Mac

What is the best way to transfer iPhone videos to my Mac to edit on Final Cut Pro? I've been using image capture, but recently some important videos didn't copy properly (video was digitizing, etc) and the material was ruined. What are some other options?

See this excellent write-up by Pondini ( a regular here, and resident Time Machine expert) on setting up a new Mac from a TM backup from an old machine.

It describes using Setup Assistant, a much better way than using Migration Assistant in creeating a seamless transition of your old applications, data files, and users. Normally you only have one opportunity to use it, upon first boot of your MacBook.

• How do I transfer Notes from my Outlook Mac 2011 to my iPhone 4S (iOS 6)? I am using OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro

Hi,
I want to know how I can transfer Notes in my Outlook: Mac 2011 to my iPhone 4S.
Am using a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and my 4S is on iOS 6.
Jesal

Finally figured it out...
1) Open mail/compose notes on your macbook...
2) copy and paste every note from Outlook to a new note in Mail.
3) Open iTunes. In Info/Advanced tick Notes. This will replace / copy all Notes from Mail to your iPhone...
4) Voila! Notes are on iPhone...
I must say in spite of all the fabulous advantages of a Macbook and an iPhone, syncing really does suck...
Transferring data from another smartphone to a Mac or an iPhone is tough...
Features like "one way / two way" sync for Phone / computer or allowing us to select which whose, phone or computer, will be considered more important so that you can choose whose data will overwrite the other, are not there in iTunes... This is something which really needs to be there...
Anyways... problem solved for now...
ciao...

• Transfer iPhone address book to mac

While ago it's been possible and easy to transfer address book contacts to mac contacts. Now it is impossible to do with iTunes! Why is that? since i don't use iCloud and do not use in future and there is reason - it is pointless since external HDD are cheap and it is no problem to back up and keep it safe (i don't trust cloud services, no matter how it is safe - nothing is safe on network)
So... there is a way to transfer my contacts to mac?

One of the only ways is to use iCloud. Its a secure and proper way of your contacts, information and apps and data to be automatically transferred from iphone to mac. As long as you use iCloud with your iphone and log in with that same account with your mac, all your contact information and others will be transferred to mac/phone.

• How to transfer Notes from PC to Mac

My iCloud account syncs all my new notes from my iPhone 4 to my mac, however I have over 200 notes on my iPhone that are labelled as "From My PC" I cannot find a way to sync those notes to my mac??

Below are methods for copying everything from one computer to another.  If you have some things on one and other things on another and want to integrate them, it gets really messy and you need to use more complex methods.

do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the whole iTunes folder and all its subfolders and files intact to the other drive. If you already have an iTunes folder on that drive, you can replace it when copying as long as you don't care about the contents.

• Transfering iPhone from PC to Mac

I sold my desktop PC a few weeks ago and saved all the backup info and other folders. After selling the computer, I hooked my iPhone up to my wife's PC laptop and it let me back it up. I ended up replacing my 3GS with a new one, but when I restored it from the backup I made on my wife's computer... all it restored was the notes and photos and such... not the apps and saved games.
I bought a MBP last night and would like to transfer all of that info including backups to this Mac and restore the phone from a backup that includes the apps and saved games.
My question is, what is the best way to transfer the files to the Mac... where are the folders located and what do I truly need to transfer in order to get everything back on my phone. Also, what is the process I need to go through in order to correctly restore everything including apps and saved games?
Thanks.

I end up asking him some questions about the battery and he tells me it's fine to leave the Macbook plugged in at all times, when the Mac genius at the Apple store last night told me that the cells in the battery need to keep fresh and it's best to drop it to 5% and then recharge to 100% instead of keeping it plugged in all the time.
There is nothing wrong with keeping your MacBook plugged in all the time as long as you go through at least one complete discharge and charge cycle once a month, which can be done at one time if the computer is never unplugged, or this can be done gradually at different discharge and charge levels when using the computer when unplugged at various times followed by plugging it back in before the batter is completely discharged, which is common and usually the norm with a laptop.
The following was copied from this link.

*For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally*. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. *An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month.* Need a reminder? Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time as in never unplugging it, which usually isn't common with a portable computer.
