Transfer iPhoto content from iPhoto11 to iPhoto9

I have a large collection of photo in my MacBook Pro running on Snow Leopard using iPhoto11. How do I transfer all its contents to my other iMac running on Leopard with iPhoto9?

It means you gave to export the photos from iPhoto 11 to the Finder. You get a folder full of images. You then move that folder to the other machine however you prefer. Then you import that folder of images into the iPhoot 09 on the other machine.
The iPhoto won't change at all. All you're doing is moving photos.

  • My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my phone, but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it.

My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. I have lost all music & data that was on this original itunes. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone (music & photos) onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my iphone (3GS), but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it. Help please!!

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

If you're talking about music and movies an i-device was not designed for unique storage of media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing music and movies is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred from a device to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

i can't transfer downloaded content from my macbook air to my external hdd, when i try to drag it into the hrd drive it wont go in how do i fix this ?

What format is the external HDD in? If it's NTFS (= proprietary Windows), then OS X can read it but not write.
Eventually copy all content from the drive to a safe place, the re-format. FAT32 is the format which both Windows and OS X can read and write.

  • How do i transfer my content from my android phone to my new iphone 5

How do i transfer my content from my android phone to my new iphone 5 thanks

sync the old android phone content to google like contacts.  Then sync the new iPhone 5 to google using the carddav protocol.  Google has some great tutorials for seting up the accounts.

Additional way is if its already on the google.com cloud service. Search iPhone App Store for "MobileTrans contacts".
Or go on iCloud.com then sign up and click on the cogwheel for options. I believe it has import contacts.

iCloud is not the way to do this. You should use Migration Assistant - with this you can transfer your complete User folder from the old Mac including preferences and logins. You will need to connect the two with FireWire or USB depending on the models.
Ideally you should do this before you set up the new Mac - if you create a user account with the same name than the Migration will have to give the migrated user folder a different name. When you first switch on the new Mac it should ask you if you want to transfer your data, and give you instructions.

  • I want to transfer new content from iTunes to my iphone without losing what is already on my phone. Help!

I want to transfer new content from iTunes to my iPhone without losing what is already on the phone. On the old iTunes I could drag and drop only the items I wanted on the phone.  On this new version, all I can figure out to do is sync, which is going to remove the songs that are already on the phone. There has to be another way.

The film would have to be in itunes on your computer.
You would sync it like you do everything else.

They should, yes.  You should have a full and complete backup as well, of course.

  • How do I transfer all my iPhoto contents from my external hard drive back to my MacBookPro iPhoto?

My MacBook Pro recently had to have it's software cleared completely by a genius at the apple store. I purchased an external hard drive to save all of my documents and photos safely on so I would not lose them. I now am having difficulty reloading all of my iPhoto contents back onto my laptop from my external hard drive. Has anyone else experienced this? Will my iPhoto library go back to it's original appearance with all of the special albums I had made and the way in which I organized my photos and videos? How do I find what folders my photos were saved on my external hard drive to drag back onto my laptops iPhoto library?

iPhoto stores it's pictures in the Pictures/iPhoto Library, so if you have this backed up on a external drive, then it's a simple matter of replacing the new iPhoto Library (free of anything) with the copy of the older one on the external drive and running iPhoto.
If you have some items in the new iPhoto Library you can export them to the Desktop until the old one is replaced and then reimport them. Also another mehtod is to right click on the iPhoto Library and "Show Package Contents" inside is a folder called "Originals" which contain your files.
If you replaced the files and iPhoto doesn't open up, then reset it.
    iPhoto rebuild database:   https://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
You might want to consider not having your movies in iPhoto, it's not designed to handle too much, in fact 10,000 pictures of mine seem to overload it.
You can keep seperate iPhoto Libraries, use the option key held at launching of iPhoto to select another iPhoto Library.

  • Restoring iPhoto contents from an external hard drive results in duplicates! Please help!

    Hi Folks,
I have an iMac 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo computer that had it's DVD fried and I gave it to Apple to fix it. They did and they also upgraded me to the Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4. I am not sure if I am a fan of this OS but that's a different story. I had backed up everything to an external hardrive (not using time Machine). The external drive is a Hitachi and came with it's own back-up software for the Mac. I was able to restore everything except iPhoto properly. By the time I specified the directory that contained my library information, I ended up getting duplicates events/pictures of EVERYTHING to the point where it has eaten up more than 100GB of my 350GB hard-drive
Now I have been looking through all of the duplicate events that iPhoto created, I see that most of them are thumbnails. I also downloaded photosweeper Lite to find duplicate pictures and that didn't help. I am a Unix hack and could write some sort of script to compare the fine names etc but I know that's not a practice that's encouraged and I really don't have the time to putz with it.
So can you please let me know how can I re-restore iPhoto properly please given what was in the back-up hardware? Here is what the directory structure looks like in the external drive:

Can you let me know once I start iPhoto '11 how I make sure it reads the correct files from the list above?
I am sorry for the long winded request but if anyone could help, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear of your difficulties.
Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the back up to the Pictures Folder on the MBP and launch iPhoto. It will do the rest.
Alternatively, you can leave the library where it is and hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the Library on the Back Up disk.

  • How can I transfer iPhoto files from one admin user to another on the same Mac?

i created a new admin user on my computer, so now my husband has one and so do i. how can i transfer our iphoto files from his admin user to mine as a shared file? i was able to do this with itunes easily but i am not able to do it with iphoto.

You want to share the Library?
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How do I transfer iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Air and retain the Albums?

I just transferred my iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Air by dragging the entire Library from my Pictures folder onto an external HD and then dragging from there onto my new Air. Transfer effected fine and all images now appear in iPhoto on the new Air. One problem: the Albums that were present on the left hand toolbar in iPhoto on my old machine are no longer there, so I have 50,000 images with no organization. Events are still there organized by date so that is something, but the Albums are not there and that is what I primarily relied on. Help please??

The left hand pane is the source pane. Were both Macs running the same version of iPHoto?
Try rebuilding the library with the option to Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.

  • Urgent Problem: Transfer iPhoto Library from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iPhoto 8.1.1

On my G5-Desktop (OS-X 10.4.11 I had created with iPhoto 4.03 a very voluminous library (about 3.7 GB) with a large amount of albums. My attempt to transfer it to iPhoto 8.1.1, located on MacBook pro ( OS-X 6: Snow Leoparf) failed: I have followed the instructions of Terence (many thanks!) by copying the file "iPhoto library" from the "old" Mac to the folder "Pictures" on the "new" one. Clicking on it I got the message, that it cannot be opened and that I have to start a newer version of iPhoto. Starting directly iPhoto 8.1.1 showed me a lot of mpg-pictures spread all over storage-media, BUT NOT the albums and pictures of the original library. The library was still untouched in the correct place.
I cannot imagine that apple has not provided a transfer-method....
BUT WHO CAN HELP ME TO FIND IT ?????

I would guess that the copy from the old machine to the new one has gone wrong.
Try doing it again and then - on the new machine - Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the copied library.

How can I transfer my iPhoto Slideshow from my mac desktop to my mac laptop.  When I try to transfer I get error message OSStatus 61.

  • HT1229 Can I Transfer iPhoto Pics From A Old Computer To A New Computer?

About to get a new computer soon and I want to transfer my pictures from iPhoto from computer A to computer B.  Anyway it can be done?  I need to get this resolved within a week if possible.  Any help I will be grateful.

ACtually migration assistant has a poor record moving the iPhoto library between computers.
Allan recommended "Setup Assistant" and not "Migration assistant", Larry. The "Setup Assistant" directly after the system has been installed, and before any new user account has been created, avoids all the permissions and access control list errors and makes a much better job.
