Transfer iPod Touch Apps with new main hard drive on Windows PC

Replacing main hard drive, which hosted iTunes account.
For songs, I have already saved to 4 DVD's.
For iTunes, a new main hard drive will look like a new PC, I'd think. Should I de-authorize my account on the current PC/drive before installing new hard drive? Then download iTunes and set up under previous email & PW?
Other content?
For photos and MS Outlook contacts, I can re-link to restored data.
How about downloaded and purchased Apps? Will they survive on the Touch or need I take further action on the PC?
Thanks!

Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

Can I change the Black colour of my ipod touch 4g with new white one?

You can't get a new color iPod for free. Unless you paint it (which I highly reccomend NOT doing), you must buy a new white iPod touch. You can't trade your iPod touch in for a white one.

Yes.  You will find it on the ipod when it is released next month.

  • IPod touch texting with new iOS / iTunes account options

My son has an iPod touch and now has texting ability with the new IOS.  His iPod is linked to my account, so my name comes up when he texts.  Can I create a "sub-account" under mine so his name is the sender, not mine?  Or, do I need to make an all new account.?
Any other scenarios to work around without a brand new account?

  • I recently have reset my ipod touch 4g with new apple id and cannot download Facebook,Skype or any app that reqires ios7 or later

I recently have reset my ipod touch 4g with a new apple id and cannot download Facebook,Skype or any app that reqires ios7 or later but ipod 4g can only have ios 6.1.6

Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Transfer ipod touch content to new PC

    Hi all,
I needed a new HDD for my laptop, and now I don't know how I'm going to transfer all the content on my iPod touch to the new iTunes library on the new HDD. If you could help me, it would mean the world to me, thanks!

Your apps are in the itunes folder, so if you grabbed the whole lot for back up, they should be on the disc (or external drive) to be restored. So restoring your itunes from the backup should restore apps too (though not info stored in those apps eg calanders etc unless you made and saved externally a back up mirror of your ipod touch).
If any are missing, I am pretty sure I have read about these forums that you can download an app that you have bought, and if you already own it, you won't be charged .. though I would test that on one app just to be sure

  • How do I migrate firefox settings from a 4.0 FF install on my old main drive, now connected as an external drive, to my new main hard drive's 4.0 FF installation?

My old computer's motherboard cooked, but the hard drive was undamaged. I removed it, and converted it to an external hard drive using cables, and now want to migrate the bookmarks, passwords, and settings to my new computer's main hard drive installation of Firefox.

See [[Managing Profiles]] which explains how to recover data from your profile on the old drive.

  • How to Properly Utilize Elements 5 with New External Hard Drive?

    Hello,
I just bought a new external hard drive, and want to use it the most effective way. Should I leave Elements on my internal drive, then open the folder/photo I want to edit from my external drive? Or, I guess the only other option is to copy Elements onto the External drive. Lastly, another option might be to have a copy of Elements on both drives, but I suspect that this would not be a very feasible way, for sure.
    Thanks for any help,
    Les

    My suggestions are:
1- keep Photoshop elements installed on the internal hard drive as it is now
If you have photo files cataloged in the Elements Organizer
2- determine which drive letter you want to assign to this external drive. Use Windows Administrative Tasks to set that drive letter so it remains the same. (some people use a letter further in to the alphabet to make it easier to avoid conflicts)
3- look at this FAQ which will point you to an Adobe techdoc on moving the photo files to a different hard drive using the PSE 5 Organizer -
    http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc254a8
4- I would keep the Elements Catalog and related files in their default location - which is probably their current location. If you wish that can be changed later.

  • New style hard drives and Windows XP

According to this article, new style hard drives will cause problems for XP due to sector size
    http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010/03/why-new-hard-disks-might-not-be-much-fun-for -xp-users.ars

That is correct. However, WD being the first to use these large sectors, has included a utility to adress the problem with the LBA 63 sector, which is no longer adressable with the 4096 byte sectors. I have not yet seen reports on reliability and stability with this utility.

  • Make an iPod touch work with new computer?

Today I formated my drive on my homebuilt Windows computer. I backed everything up to an external hard drive including all of the iTunes backup and library files. Now when I plug my iPod touch in it wants me to erase all the purchases and sync it with a "new computer". How do I get it to work right? I don't want to have to restore. I am in the middle of a lot of games and for the ones that don't have cloud sync I would have to restart at the beginning. By the way, does iCloud back up all those files? If I restore my iPod from a back up from iCloud will all my games be right where I left off?

Why does it take so long for people to reply now?! I used to get answers within about 15 minutes! With all my other questions! COME ON PEOPLE!

  • IPhone/iPod Touch App with graphical week view?

I have seen a lot of calendar apps with list week views like Pocket Informant.
    http://www.pocketinformant.com/productsinfo.php?p_id=pocketinformantiphone
I'm looking for a calendar app with a graphical week view (with colored bars as opposed to lists).
The only example I have found is Daylite Touch which apparently has an annual subscription for the program.

Is there anything out there with such a week view (for under $20)?

    Palm Pre.
    Except it is $199

  • Is there a way to use an ipod touch 3rd generation as a hard drive or flash drive?

I have an ipod touch 3rd gen thats all cracked and tourn up, it still will boot up but it wont respond to touch and the headphone jack doesnt work.  it still shows up in itunes and i can restore it and put music on it and everything, but sinse the touch doesnt work, i cant do anything with it. its also missing the top black part of the screen so you can see all the hardware and stuff. Is there any way to use it as just a hard drive or flash drive so that when i plug it in, it mounts to my desktop?

Well you actually can use it to hold all kinds of files.
If you don't like the itunes interface there are a whole lot of apps that will wired or wirelessly swap files back and forth with your iPod.
a few come to mind are/
    phonedisk dropbox
    shovebox
    filemagnet
    USBDISK
    Air sharing
    photoshare
amd these are just the ones I use on a weeklly basis, most were cheap or even free, check them out at the itunes store or from appshopper or something like that.
OR goto ifixit and order a new sceen and put it on yourself for cheap
    HOpe this help.

  • FCPX and speed problems with new external hard drive

    Hi All,
I have just bought a new Thunderbolt drive.   I created a very large disk image partition to separate my fcpx files from other iTunes type files - but strangely FCPX is now operating slower than it ever did when I was using 800 firewire.
Any thoughts on why this might be the case?  I have encryption on the disk image (but it is the minimum amount).
Also - FCPX hangs regularly (when I go to Finder it states that the app is not responding) but then after 1 min, is back.   The whole environment is now less stable than when i was simply using  a 800 firewire drive with a disk image.
All OS and FCPX is up to date.
    Any suggestions/comments appreciated.
    Best,
    R

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the tip.  I ran the app (quite a nifty app at that) and my speed tests for the main drive are Read 133 mbps and Write 137 mbps.  Which is not as high as I would expect for a Thunderbolt drive - does this sound right?
Anyhow, I ran the same test on the Disk Image. And something is definitely wrong.  Read 1.4 mbps and Write 1.5 mbps
Now I am scratching my head about this hard drive.   It is a single partition - nothing fancy.  Only this large Disk Image that is for media.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Best,
    R

  • Trouble with new internal hard drive

I just installed an new 300gig Maxtor interal drive (2nd drive). The computer is able to read and recognize the drive, however, I have issues transferring files. For instance when I try to transfer 1 gig of files to the new drive, from my external Lacie via firewire 800, it will say the transfer time is 11 hours. I know that's not right. When I restart, the computer will display a blue screen with a planet earth icon, after a few minutes a blinking folder with a question mark will appear. After another few minutes the apple screen will appear and the computer will start to get up to speed after about 10 minutes. Earlier today when I restarted, the fan sounded like a jet engine. I've had the "jet engine" issue before and was able to fix it. But now it's back. Basically after installing the new harddrive the computer is not the same. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same computer and am having an issue that may be related. After 5 days of troubleshooting with AppleCare without a resolution, I happened to notice something regarding the hard drive setup through Disk Utility that may be significant. Unfortunately, Apple tech support is closed. I am not a trained technician. Before I say what I observed, can someone knowledgeable let me know what the settings should be on the two hard drives when one is the startup disk and the other is for storage? I am specifically interested in the Connection Type (Internal, upper or lower) and the Connection ID (Device 0 or 1, etc.) information.

  • Fan Speeds, and Mirror Raid with New Internal Hard Drive

    Regards,
I recently installed and formatted a new hard drive in my PowerMac dual 2.3 ghz computer and I have a few questions.
    1. Now that there are two hard drives do I need to do anything to ensure that the fan on my computer can keep them cool? I think the fans I have in the hard drive bay is enough, but I do not know if they will automatically set themselves to run properly. I can monitor the fan speeds and temp from iStat pro, but do not remember what level the temperature was before installing the new one.
    2. Given that my new drive is a SeaDisc hard drive and the older one is a Western Digital, will this cause any problems in creating a mirrored RAID. I believe that both are 7200rpm drives, and my second hard drive is a little larger (I will just have unused space after making the RAID). I am concerned with the fact that these two drives are from two different manufactures. Will this cause problems or drastically slow down the reading and writing of data? Has anyone else experienced problems in making a mirrored RAID from two hard drives that are not exact matches, and even come from different manufacturers?
    Any advice will help.
    Thanks
    earpshmael

    Hi earpshmael;
Generally when creating RAID arrays the more similar the drive the less problems you tend to have.
The real question is exactly why do you want or need RAID?
I think so many people seem to think that RAID will solve all of their problem. I hate to tell you the bad news but it will not.
Generally there are to varieties of RAID available using the software RAID built into OS X which are 0 and 1. RAID 0 or stripling is generally for moving large file rapidly for applications like HD video. It usually doesn't help the OS. RAID 1 or mirroring is for protection from drive failure. It is not a valid backup solution.
