Transfer iTunes to New Computer

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!  I built a new computer and simply want to transfer the contents of my entire iTunes file from my old, slow (can't wait to get rid of it) computer to my new insanely fast computer.  The old computer runs on XP and the new on Windows 7.  Can anyone tell me how to complete this task?

Follow the instructions included with this link for transferring your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer.

  • HOw to transfer Itunes to new computer so that existing Ipods linked to that account are recognized on new PC

Old PC Windows XP. Now Purchasing a new PC(Windows 7). Will need to transfer existing Itunes account/music/apps to the new PC. Once done, will existing Ipods be recognized on the new PC so that syncing and transfers are not an issue. I know that when I connect  our Ipods to our second PC Iwe have limited options when it comes to syncing/transferring.

As long as you are syncing to the same library you were before then it should be a relatively seamless transition.  To move the entire library:

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Transfer itunes to new computer from time machine

I have a new imac. How can I transfer my iTunes library from Time Machine? I keep getting a permissions error.

By any chance do you still have the old computer? If you do then copy /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder on the old computer to an external drive then transfer it to the new computer.
If you don't have the old computer then you have a little bit of a problem. Did you use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer your files from the TM backup? Is the username (account short name) on the new computer the same as on the old computer? I'm guessing "no" because you are getting the permissions errors.

Trying to transfer ipod to new computer. It is telling me to autharize computer. Had another ipod on same account, it gone now. Don't have password or any info about it. What do I do?

The password is for your iTunes account. Not for your old iPod. Enter your Email and password will give you access to all the music you bought from iTunes.  If you forget it then I dont know how to help you there guess your SOL.

Apparently I wasn't clear.  The music on my ipod is but a subset of all the music on my external hard drives.  I want to import only the songs and playlists from my existing ipod into the itunes library on my new computer, which currently has no music or playlists.  How can I do this?

  • How do I transfer iTunes from one computer to another?

How do I transfer iTunes from one computer to another?

This really depends on how technical you want to get, and how much of the library data you want to retain. First, there is getting the actual song files over to your new computer. If both computers are on the same network and are on iTunes 9, you can use home sharing to transfer the song files to your new computer.
Once the files are transferred, now you have to get all of the metadata transferred, like Playlists and Song Ratings. There is a method for doing this that involves editing your Library.xml file to transfer Playlists, Playcounts, etc..
If all you want to transfer is your Playlists and song files, there are programs that will back up your playlists so you can transfer them to a new computer, but if you're able to do the above XML edits (which are pretty simple), that is preferred (and cheaper).
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Going to college and need to transfer iTunes from home computer to labtop

What is the easiest way to transfer iTunes from one computer to another, do you suggest using a flash drive? Will that still allow me to access iTunes from both my home computer and my new labtop? Will I still be able to listen to my music from both computers? Thanks for any help!

+What is the easiest way to transfer iTunes from one computer to another,+
On the new one, download iTunes from the Apple site and install it. Copy the Music folder from the old PC to the new one. If your library contains any iTunes Store purchases, make sure to authorize the laptop to the same account.
    +do you suggest using a flash drive?+
Yes, but first compare the size of your music library to the available capacity on the flash drive. Some music libraries are bigger than a flash drive can hold, in which case you will have to do it in several batches, or use a bigger medium such as an external HD.
+Will that still allow me to access iTunes from both my home computer and my new labtop?+
    Yes.

  • Upgrading computer, do I install itunes on new computer? How does my content on old computer get to my new computer?

I am upgrading to a new HP ProBook 6470b computer w/ Windows 7, do I install itunes on new computer or somehow transfer the files from the old Dell D620 Windows XP computer ? How does my content on old computer get to my new computer? Would like to find the best way to do this. Thanks!

Yes.  You should copy everything ( music, apps, pcis, docs, contacts, calendars, etc) from your old computer to your new one.
You can type "move itunes library" into the google search bar for instructions on itunes.
Certainly your computers have a methed for moving all of your content from one comptuer to another.

  • Replacing playlists from iPhone into new iTunes on new computer

My computer crashed. I was able to recover my itunes from the hard drive of the old computer and import them into the new itunes I've downloaded into my new computer. However, I have playlists on my iPhone which I want to put into the new itunes in new computer. Is there a way to force the new itunes to recognize existing playlists on the handheld device so as to avoid having to recreate the various play lists?

You cannot do that.  All you can transfer is the music you purchased in iTunes.  To do that, plug your iPhone into iTunes, and choose File > Device > Transfer Purchases from the iTunes menu.
The rest of your music will have to come either from your old computer's backup or the original sources (e.g., CDs) that were used to supply iTunes on the old machine.

  • Copying Music Files to Itunes on new computer

    Hello,
I was wondering if I could copy the music files on my ipod to my new computer. The only catch, however, is that I did not put them in a folder and put them on the ipod to transfer to my new computer. This was because the old computer is completely destroyed, or else I would. I would appreciate it if there was ANY way to put my songs on my ipod to my itunes library/harddrive on my new computer.

    These links will give you
    i several
methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search if the links below leave you wanting….

After recovering your song files, consider developing a backup strategy for just this type of situation. Below are some very good threads to read on the subject:

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D
