Transfer library?

Can any one tell me how I can transfer the Music/Video library on my iPod to my PC (Windows Vista)

you can't... this is not allowed since it would make piracy just too easy... you could just go over to your friends place and give then all of your songs.
if you want to transport your songs with your iPod.. you can enable disc mode on your iPod... sets aside part of the memory in the iPod to act like a USB thumb drive. you can set how much you want to leave for storage and how much for iPod stuff. then transfer the files that way but you can't get the files off in regular iPod mode.

  • How to use a transfer library in FCPX

Here's what I want to do: I have an FCP X project going on my main Mac Pro, but I want to so some work on my laptop. The main thing I want to do is mark parts of the various clips with keywords so I can use those keyword collections back on the Mac Pro. In other words, I don't want to do work on the laptop (Mac Book Pro) that can't be transfered back to the main computer.
In short, I want to sit in bed with my laptop and listen to clips and mark the relevant sections of clips with keywords. (They are interviews, so they're very long clips.) Then I want to do the actual editing on my Mac Pro using these keywords. I know how I would have done this with FCP 7 and I love the new keyword method FCP X introduced but I don't know how to get it to do what I need in this case.
I understand that there is something called a Transfer Library, but honestly, I really don't understand the concept. Is this the best way to do what I'm trying? Open to any suggestions.
    Thanks
PS: I just started the project on the main Mac Pro, so if I need to re-import and start a new project, that wouldn't be a huge deal. I haven't really started editing yet.

Thanks, Russ. My older Mac Pro is a 2,1 -- I think I only missed by a few months in buying one that would run Mavericks (64 bit EFI).  I do intend to buy a "trashcan" Mac Pro but not just yet.
As for updating projects — that's my issue, I think. The Mac Pro and the laptop are networked so I can be working on my laptop and go to the Mac Pro and open the Final Cut Pro that is resident on that computer. What is odd is that it doesn't open any of the projects that normally open up with I start up FCP X on the Mac Pro.
I frequently work inside the house on my laptop running programs that are on my Mac Pro outside in my office — usually no problem at all with Adobe applications.
FCP X won't let me open a project by clicking on the project — it insists that I "Open projects from within FCP X" but they won't open that way.  This what is odd — that it won't let me open projects even thought they are fully native to that version of FCP and are even on the same hard drive on the Mac Pro.

At first when I tried to transfer library books from ADE to my Kobo I got an error message "some file(s) cannot be transferred".I reinstalled ADE and  reauthorized ADE and my Kobo, per Kobo help advice. Are any other ereaders easier to use to read library books? Thanks!!

  • Is it possible to transfer library information such as play counts, ratings

I've learned how to transfer my music files to a new PC, but is it possible to also transfer library info such as play counts and ratings? I am moving my music from an old XP system to a Vista system. I would like to keep all my play counts, ratings etc if possible. I believe I can copy the library file but will it be a problem if the path is different (in XP it's My Documents/My Music where in Vista it's Documents/Music without the "My"). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are numerous posts about this in the forum. Here is an Apple article decribing how to do it using an iPod, but the method is essentially the same using an external HD.

It is generally better to start your own topic, rather than respond to an old post like this. The original poster is unlikely to be around after so long.

  • How do i transfer library (including play counts etc.) to my new computer?

I want to keep all the info like play counts, what is "checked" and unchecked, and star ratings. This wouldn't happen if i just loaded the songs would it?
My new computer doesn't have iTunes installed yet. I have all the related files from my old computer on an outboard hard drive. All the songs, all the podcsts, and the library file. Pretty much all the data from my section of a shared computer. I also have my iPod which contains most of my library.
How do i go about this? All the music-inclined people said i need other software, but i just want to move my library to my new computer, surely this is a pretty standard thing that iTunes should be able to do by itself?
The new computer is on Vista, i think the old one was windows XP. I got all the data from the old computer about 3 months ago so it's probably from whatever version of iTunes was out then.
Also are there any hurdles to registering my computer to my iTunes account and anything i should do before syncing my iPod to it? (I don't intend to use the old computer again).

See if this helps: Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.
There are several different apps that enable you to easily transfer data such as PhoneDisk, Pod To Mac - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • How do I transfer library and playlists from external drive to PC?

My old PC with iTunes died for good. Luckily library and playlists were save on and external hard drive. How do I transfer my library and playlists from that drive to another PC (Windows XP) and are the arrangement of tracks within the playlists included?

Correction to my last post (in bold): I'll try to explain what I did originally, not knowing everything that would be required to transfer, so you can better understand my situation. Just before my first computer died I saved my Music folder containing iTunes, Library, and Playlists folders to an external drive, so I no longer have programs, sub-folders or other information rooted in my first computer. I then downloaded iTunes to my second computer (Dell Vostro 1520, WindowsXP). I then dragged my Music folder from the external drive to iTunes 11.1.5.5 music tab and near as I can tell the library was transferred because in the Songs tab, the tracks are there in duplicate, one with the exclamation at the left and one that functions playback. (However, my total song number is doubled and that can be addressed later if it doesn't impede anything). In individual playlists each track within has a “not connected” mark. I have an extensive playlist catalogue so I would rather not have to reconnect them one by one. Can you think of a solution where I don't have to do that? Would you like more info? Aragorn

  • How to transfer library with play count and top 25 playlist to another itunes library?

    Hi,
I would like to transfer all my music, with the play count and top 25 most played and other playlists to another iTunes library on a Mac. How would I go about doing this?

What exactly are you trying to do?  You already have another library on the computer and wish to add items from another library?  This is not easily done and meeting all the requirements you have posted.  While it is possible to transfer play count I think it is one of the things that requires Applescripting knowledge.
If you are just wanting to move a library from one place to another that is possible, though still tricky because you start encountering user permissions.

  • Transfer Library from PPC to new Intel iMac

I have an older G5 running iTunes 10 (latest) and am getting ready to buy new iMac that I assume will be running iTunes 10. My question is if there will be an issue transferring the library from the PPC version to the Intel version, even though they are both iTunes 10. My library is really big, around 300GB, because it contains movies, etc. I don't have room on my PPC HD to create a back up before I transfer the library. Will it be safe if I keep the PPC around for a couple weeks while I migrate files over? I'll have the same issue with my iPhoto and iMovie libraries. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chris,
    Thanks for the note.
I wouldn't have asked if I didn't already look at that.. I would do it in a second - unfortunately, there is no sense of real control here - for example, if I'm migrating mail, does it migrate all my messages? Just my password/account settings? I don't want my mail content. I can easily set up the password/account settings by hand. Should I? I don't know.
I don't want to migrate all apps... I want to migrate iTunes.
I don't want to migrate all users... just me.
But... I am not willing to start poking "ok" and keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that I won't have to go through an hour of work to undo what I should have had the choice to avoid in the first place.
This may all be speculation, but it wouldn't be if the process was clear, or stated "all or nothing" - but it doesn't, at least, as far as I can tell.
The Apple site has little that really helps either:
    http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/migration.html
I sure don't mind doing things by hand - I've been doing that for 20 years. However, I do mind -undoing- things by hand.

  • How do I transfer library on i pod to laptop

52 year old computer idiot here. My main computer crashed and I lost everything. I now have a hp laptop with windows 7. I downloaded i tunes to the laptop but when I connect my i pod it says I am already synced to another library. I have been searching for 2 hours now thinking I could find out how to get to my old library or transfer what is on my i pod somehow with no luck. Finally found this forum. Can some of you experts please help me. Thanking you in advance!!!

Plug your iPod or iPhone into your computer.
From the Desktop, go to My Computer and find the iPod (usually designated by a drive letter. i e. E: or F:)
    Open the **** thing.
Go to Tools > Folder Options > View (the tab) > scroll to Show Hidden Files and Folders and click it.
    Click OK.
Go back to your iPod folder/drive, there you will find a new folder called iPod_Control
    Open it.
The Music folder in it will have a bunch of folders named F00, F01 and so on. THEY HAVE YOUR MP3s AND VIDEOS. Look through the folders to find your stuff.
You can also use the Search utility in Windows and search for a particular audio file on your iPod. Just make sure you specify to search in Hidden Files or Folders. There, a solution that requires no extra software, just a few extra brain cells.

  • Switching to Mac from PC, need to transfer Library ?

  • New computer--how to transfer library?

I want to move my library to a new computer. Is there a way to do this? I tried just syncing the ipod onto itunes on the new computer but it gives me the message that the ipod is already with another library. HELP?!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described. Also it won't transfer playlists or videos as far as I know. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. If you still have access to your original computer you can also use the iPod as an external drive and transfer the iTunes folder to the new one: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
