Transfer mail accounts in lion

Old hard drive got loaded up so I transferred my system to a new hard drive using Migration Assistant. Everything worked fine: users, applications, etc except no mail accounts. I have a number of emails for work, home, school, etc so I don't really want to set them all up again. Who can remember if they are IMAP or whatever.
Why didn't they transfer with Migration Assistant and how can I fix this?  I tried to run Migration Assistant again but it couldn't find "another system" I assume because it has already finished transferring the only other "system" on my hard drives.

It's possible that the Mail data was corrupted, so it didn't transfer in the migration.
In any case, you can use http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/ to find out what a lot of your email settings would be, though not all; however, Mail automatically uses those settings if you add your email address and password, so you shouldn't need to look them up.
Mail has an import/export feature. You can always copy the ~/library/mail/ folder from the other computer, save it to an external HDD or use Firewire and Target Disk Mode between the two computers and import it into Mail on the affected computer after adding the accounts in.

  • Transfer mail accounts from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2013

    Hello friends!
We changing computers in the office
and I would appreciate some help.
We are moving from Windows XP and
    Outlook 2003 to
    Windows 8.1 and
    Outlook 2013.
That we can transfer mails with
    pst-files I know,
but does anyone have a solution how to transfer
    our e-mail accounts.
Each computer has 7 accounts linked
to it and I'd rather not do it manually.
    Is there any solution?
    Many thanks for your help!

Hello friend, please read this thread:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/migrating-e-mail-account-from-outlook-2003-to-2013/e98d7a3b-2b1a-43b1-b2aa-3aeff173292d?msgId=272189da-d6a1-4062-bcb7-e1a321b402e9
I would say it's not a stable way since the profile may easily get corrupted, so some people think it's not possible to complete the migration.
Use Auto account setup and let Outlook 2013 set the accounts up for you.
    older versions:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\
    Outlook 2013 profiles:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles
    The steps at
Moving outlook to a new computer apply to both Outlook 2010 and 2013.

  • How to transfer mail accounts from old Mac running Tiger to brand new Mac?

I just ordered a new mac. Should be here on Monday (can't wait). I want to set it up with my existing mail (all my inboxes, and old messages, etc.). What would you suggest I do?
I was thinking I could move over my mail folder (wherever that may be) to the new account on my new mac. Will that work? Do I need to create the account first, then copy it over? Of copy it and then bring up Mail for the first time? I have several email accounts (gmail, .mac, etc.). Is all that in one place on the old mac?
I would appreciate some help. I want to be ready when it gets here.
    Thanks!

I've read that you can copy the ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and then start up Mail. The only worry I have is that Mail on Snow Leopard will not understand the "Tiger" version of Mail files. Can anyone confirm if this will or will not work?
    Thanks.

  • Trouble Sending & Receiving Mail Through Exchange Account from Lion Mail

    Mid-2011 MacBook Air, 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5, OS X 10.7.2.
I'm having trouble sending and recieving mail through my Exchange Server Mail account under Lion 10.7.2 on my MacBook Air.  The MBA is new with a factory install of Lion.  On my MBP the server settings were as follows:
    Internal & External Server:  red001.mail.microsoftonline.com
When I allow Mail to configure the server settings based on my company eMail ID & Password it sets it up as follows:
    Internal Server:  10.32.16.62
    External Server:  autodiscover-red001.mail.microsoftonline.com
Part of the time this seems to work ok but frequently Mail cannot seem to connect to the Exchange Server to send/recieve.  The internet connection is fine and I can send/recieve from my iCloud mail account with no problems.
I recently "upgraded" from mobileMe to iCloud, I do not seem to have any of these issues on my iPad2 or iPhone4, both of which are running iOS5.
    Anyone have any ideas?

This started happening with me a week ago.   Don't know if it's connected to the latest update or not.  I'm running 10.6.7.  I can get Exchange mail (sometimes) on my iPhone 3GS, but it's stopped on my MBP and iPad2.  Neither can I log onto the company's web mail site from home ("can't reach server" error message). Weird and very frustrating.  IT guy at work says there is nothing wrong at his end.

  • How can I change order of email accounts in Mail on Mountain Lion?

In Mail on Mountain Lion I have only two email accounts, but the wrong one has been set as default (because it was an account I had overlooked and added later). I cannot find how to change the order of the email accounts. One possibility is to delete the non-default account and re-add it, so that it becomes the most recent and thus (presumably) the default, but this would delete all the email messages in that account, which I cannot afford.
It's a great flaming pain to try to remember each email I write to select the second account option, and yet I can find no way to change email account order---not in Mail and not in System Preferences. Dragging them certainly does not work.
Can Apple have really missed this? Is there any solution?

Comfortable with terminal...know how to edit using TextEdit:
Open up a Terminal and use the following commands to change your Mail.app preferences file to an XML format – the default format is binary, and you can't edit this.
    cd ~/Library/Preferences
    plutil -convert xml1 com.apple.mail.plist
Then, open this file com.apple.mail.plist with a text editor of your choice, preferably one that highlights XML syntax, but you can also use TextEdit:
    open -a "TextEdit" com.apple.mail.plist
Now, look for the key called MailAccounts. It's value is an array, with dict children. Here, you'll find all your mail accounts in the order they were created in.
You can now manually move these dict children around. Save the XML file and reopen Mail. Now, your Mail account order will be changed.

  • Transfer Mail messages between Mail accounts

I would like to transfer all messages from one of my Mail account to another Mail account for the same user on the same computer. I want to do that because I don't want to lose my old email messages when I delete the old Mail account.
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

You can accomplish this a number of ways.
Create an "On My Mac" location mailbox - one for this account's Inbox messages and one for the account's Sent messages.
Transfer messages from the account's inbox mailbox to the appropriate user created mailbox and the same for the account's Sent messages before deleting the account.
I would prefer keeping the received and sent messages for the account to be deleted separate from the account that will remain but if you don't care about this, transfer the messages from the account's inbox mailbox to be deleted to the account's Inbox mailbox that will remain and the same for the messages in the account's Sent mailbox to be deleted.
Or with the Mail.app quit and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the POP account to be deleted). This account named folder contains the associated mailboxes for the account - Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk.
Copy this account named folder and place the copy on the Desktop.
Launch Mail and delete this account.
Use the Import Mailboxes feature to import the account's Inbox mailbox and Sent mailbox located in the copy of the account named folder placed on the Desktop.

  • How do I transfer my e-mail account to another computer

My wife and I both have separate e-mail accounts on Thunderbird, which are on her laptop. I wish to transfer only my account to a new desktop computer I recently bought, and remove it from her laptop so I won't have to delete e-mails from both computers. I want to transfer existing inbox e-mails and archived items. Of course I want no changes to her account. Thank you so much.

Hi JonathanRN, Thunderbird is only an email client and depending on if the email is a POP3 or IMAP will determine if the server has a mirror image of the mail folders as they do on the first computer.
So, technically, if you set up the email on the new computer successfully and download all the messages. You can check out if the mail has the same folders. However filters are stored in the profile as are some local folders.
But in that first article there is a third party app called [http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ Mozbackup] that will help you back up the profile to a folder then move it to the new installation on the new computer.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is there a way to share my Mail account and settings between two partitions, running Snow Leopard and Lion?

I have two partitions on my internal hard drive - one is running Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and the other is running Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Mail (5.0) is set up and runs perfectly on the Lion partition and I have not used Mail (4.5) yet on my Snow Leopard partition. I want to know if I can read, download, and save mail into the same user Library folder (probably the Lion user library) from both partitions...

You usually set up your mail accounts on a specific e-mail client programs such as Mail in OS X and Mail on an iPad, which will access the same remote mail server to have your messages show up on each device. Mailboxes can be synced in this way between two devices.
An alternative is to use the same remote application such as Gmail to access that service from multiple devices, so a dedicated e-mail client like Mail is not needed, but the availability of these depends on the e-mail service being used.

  • HT1277 Just downloaded mountain lion. We have 2 different e-mail accounts-how can they be separated when checking e-mail so you don't have to go thru both to get the ones you want.

Just downloaded mountain lion.  Have 2 different e-mail accounts but now they come in together.  How can they be separated like they were in snow leopard?

Mountain Lion, like Lion before it, now has a combined Inbox and there's no way to separate it as such, though if you click the disclosure triangle to the left of the Inbox icon, you can see individual Inboxes below the primary.

  • Google Mail Account in Mail5 on Lion?

How can i install Google Mail Account in Mail5 on Lion?
I have Lion and Mail5. Will install IMAP Account from Google Mail. But they dont Work

Do you have the IMAP server turned on within the GMail account itself? It is not something that GMail has turned on by default; you must go into your GMail settings on the GMail site to do.
I won't bore you or anyone with the steps on how to do that. Google has very direct instructions on how to turn on their IMAP through their own Help web pages. Once you have turned on the IMAP interface on Gmail's end, it's just a simple matter of going into Lion's "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" System Preferences applet and supplying your Gmail account's credentials. The applet will take over from there and add Gmail goodies to your Mail 5 and iCal.

  • Two users, one account, in Mac Mail on Mountain Lion?

Background:  My wife and I share a single mac mail account.  Prior to Mail 6 (Mountain Lion), each of us would set our own "full name" in the account preferences.  In Mail 6, this field is greyed out, since you now set it in iCloud.  The obvious problem here is that we no longer can each have our own "full name" ... so recipents cannot quickly see in their inbox who sent the message.
It looks like Apple is limiting the "full name" to only a single entry (set in the cloud).  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance,

Hiya... I can't get my iCloud mail account to activate on MacMini running OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
    Any thoughts?

Be sure the mini is connected to icloud (system preference>icloud) and that you also have mail turned on.  Then be sure the mail program has the icloud account defined in it's preferences.
