Transfer Mail messages between Mail accounts

I would like to transfer all messages from one of my Mail account to another Mail account for the same user on the same computer. I want to do that because I don't want to lose my old email messages when I delete the old Mail account.
Please advise.
Thank you.

You can accomplish this a number of ways.
Create an "On My Mac" location mailbox - one for this account's Inbox messages and one for the account's Sent messages.
Transfer messages from the account's inbox mailbox to the appropriate user created mailbox and the same for the account's Sent messages before deleting the account.
I would prefer keeping the received and sent messages for the account to be deleted separate from the account that will remain but if you don't care about this, transfer the messages from the account's inbox mailbox to be deleted to the account's Inbox mailbox that will remain and the same for the messages in the account's Sent mailbox to be deleted.
Or with the Mail.app quit and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the POP account to be deleted). This account named folder contains the associated mailboxes for the account - Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk.
Copy this account named folder and place the copy on the Desktop.
Launch Mail and delete this account.
Use the Import Mailboxes feature to import the account's Inbox mailbox and Sent mailbox located in the copy of the account named folder placed on the Desktop.

  • IOS 7, Moving messages between Exchange accounts

    Hi,
Can't find any help on this issue:
I have two Exchange accounts set up on my iPhone (and iPad), and both work well interms of sending and receiving e-mails. As I frequently get messages addressed to one address that "belong" to the other, I want to move these after processing them to the right folder under the other account.
ios 7 seemingly caters to this by allowing me to "move up" from the current account and see the other accounts. BUT, the other Exchange account is grayed out, so moving messages between the accounts is impossible.
This is perfectly possible on the Mac in OS X, so I am not sure why this should be infeasible on the phone?
Any ways to get around this?

Hold on, maybe you can. Try this and see if it works...
Select the account and message you want to move.
Tap the folder icon under the message
You should see at the top left of the screen <Inbox. Tap that.
You should now see <Accounts. Tap again.
Select the accoun, then the folder you want to move the email to.
Looks like it does work for me. Learn something new every day! :-)

  • Trasnferring MAIL settings between User accounts

I have 2 user accounts on my Powerbook, PERSONAL and WORK.
I use Mail in my personal account, but would like to transfer the settings and the messages into the work account to avoid switching the accounts just to check the delivery of mail.
How can I transfer the account settings and the messages?
    Patrick

    Patrick,
As you have framed the question, I don't think this can be done. While you can always "clone" an entire Mail setup, you can add a setup to one existing quite so easily.
I think you will need to set the personal account up, and then Import your account folder mailboxes in the Work User account. The import can run into permission problems, unless you copy first to an external drive, the Shared folder or a CD or DVD. Once you import the personal account Inbox and Sent, let's say, then you can transfer their message content into those mailboxes that resulted when you set up the account in the Work User account.
In any User folder the Mail folder is located at ~/Library, and in this Mail folder you will find one account folder for each account you have.
    Ask any questions, as needed.

  • Syncing Mail messages between 2 Mac book pros

What is the best way to keep 2 macbooks synced up identically, especially with mail messages.

With an IMAP account which is designed for access with an email client on multiple computers keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized automatically with the email client used on different computers.
As an example, a .Mac account can be accessed as a .Mac type account, IMAP or POP account with Mail or as an IMAP account or POP account with a different email client on a Mac or Windows PC.
A .Mac type account with Mail is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
I access my .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Mail on myu Mac and as an IMAP account with Outlook Express on my Dell laptop running Windows XP at work.
When checking the account with OE on my Windows PC at work, all server stored mailboxes are automatically synchronized and identical to all server stored mailboxes with the Mail.app on my Mac and the same in reverse.
You can also store Sent messages on the server with a .Mac type or IMAP account.

  • Sync e-mail messages between iphone and Mail

Is it possible to sync e-mail message such that when I delete messages from my iphone they go into the trash in Mail (and vice versa)?

Alternatively, besided the above information. You can configure your pop account on Iphone to delete emails from the server when you delete from Iphone (this is the closest thing you can have without IMAP).
which means that if you read your email on the Iphone first and delete something, and when you go back to your desktop Mail, that Mail application will not be able to retrieve the deleted emails (which you deleted via the Iphone).
    Hope this helps.

  • I can't delete a mail message, and Mail crashes when I try

    Hello:
I have a new G5 iMac 2.1 GHz. It is bone stock. I am new to Macs.
I use Mail as my client. Yesterday a friend sent me an email with a small video clip that showed up embedded in the text. When I try to manipulate this message (delete, move to another folder, etc) in any way, it crashes mail. When I re-launch Mail, that message is highlighted, and if I even try to select or read another message, it crashes.
Mail seems to have re-installed itself twice (it asked me all the details of my accounts, for example) but the existing emailall seems to be there.
Does anyone know what I can do? It is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your help,
    Wayne BK

HI Wayne! I can suggest one thing for you to try.
    CLose mail, then go to
user[whatever you call your own desktop mine is shirleydrabble, then rename the mail folder at /user/Library/Mail
To find it go to your hdd icon. click on your user name >
library, scroll till you find MAil
to something meaningful like mail-backup I saved mine to my desktop so I cold find it easily later without searching and start over again.
Before you do the rebuild as below you might want to delete that particular email, unfortunately to find it you will have to open each message which will be in the form emix with a number, but as long as you know in which of your mailboxes it is you might be able to find it easily.
Then you can Launch Mail, re-enter your account information and -using the Finder- if you have saved it to your desktop you don't need finder copy the old mailbox folders to their corresponding location in the new /user/Library/Mail folder.
    Just drag them there
They might appear empty when opening your normal Mail.app in your dock, if that is where you keep it.
afterwards. In Mail.app select a mailbox and simply hit Mailbox->Rebuild.
IF you get ANY problems doing this post back I am sure someone else can help more.
but as long as you rename the mail folder with back up in its name you will NOT lose any emails. but it might take time to get them all where you want them
    Just a thought
When you download your mail do you leave a copy on the server? I was then thinking you could go to the server and delete the message online if it is in a WEBMAIL account like yahoo.then when you have renamed your mail folder to mail_backup you could just download all your mail again.
I am hoping that you do not have hundreds of them, or that you only have one or two mailboxes set up.
    BUT
I think read this then get back with your questions if you are unsure about anything.
    Good LUCK

  • Worried About Losing Mail Messages in mail.app!

I have just switched my email from POP to IMAP. I did so by creating a new email account that had the IMAP settings. I migrated my IN BOX, DRAFTS, SENT and TRASH to the IMAP server, but I still have many folders of saved messages on my computer. I would prefer to leave these saved messages on my computer because they are too large to put on my email server.
I would like to delete the POP account, but I get a very ominous warning from mail.app that says:
+Are you sure you want to remove the “David's Email" POP account and all of its messages? The account’s setup information, mailboxes, and all messages will be deleted permanently from your computer. Copies of messages on the mail server, if they exist, will not be affected.+
I am concerned that if I delete the POP account, all of the saved messages that have been filed in various folders on my local computer will be deleted. I don't want this to happen!
Will I lose all those local messages? What should I do to ensure that I don't?
    Thanks!
    David

The simplest method is probably to allow TimeMachine in OSX Leopard to backup your mail. It should do this automatically once you connect a hard drive to your Mac. If you don't have Time Machine or want another option, than you should be able to create an archive (backup) of the mail account in question. With the Mail app open, select Help from the Menu and search for archive for instructions on how to accomplish this task.

  • Using Safari to send HTML Mail message but Mail keeps dropping images?

I'd like to use Safari to send html Mail messages, but when I click on File>Mail Contents... Mail opens a new window but my graphics are gone. (I'm creating the html pages using MS Word for the Mac.) I get a flash of the graphics for a second, and then they are replaced by a little blue lego. Any ideas? I've tried all kinds of mail preferences but nothing seems to help.

Figured it out (at least one way): had to load the image to a server and then add the image as a link only (uncheck "save picture with document" box).

  • Moving mail messages from one account to another sends to inbox, not IMAP folder

I have many email addresses (setup via Google apps) but I generally store all of my emails on one standard Gmail IMAP account. It makes looking for old emails easier IMO. Here's what my workflow should look like:
I get an email on account B, reply with account B, then file that email into account B's folder on account A.
Unfortunately, that workflow has been broken for a very long time now and 10.8.3 didn't fix it.
Here's what that workflow actually does:
I get an email on account B, reply with account B, then file that email into account B's folder on account A, the email ends up in the inbox of account A, I then have to drag the email into account B's folder on account A *again* so it actually sticks.  The tricky part is that Mail seems to have the message in two locations until I
Instead of moving the email directly to account B's folder on account A, it goes to the inbox of account A. I'm really tired of having to move a message twice just to get it into the right folder. I was hoping 10.8.3 would fix this but it's still broken. I believe I started noticing the issue in Lion.
I only use Gmail IMAP accounts if that helps. I've re-installed from scratch to eliminate any user account / upgrade issues that could've caused the problem.
I would really appreciate any suggestions or confirmation of the problem from other people so I can file another bug report (did that already but they never understood the issue).

    Hi,
Locate your Mail folder via this path - Home/Library/Mail and copy it to the same location on the second machine - when you get the message about overwriting say yes. (make sure Mail is not open on either machine)
I f you're nervous about overwriting the corrupted copy - simply move it out of Home/Library first - say to the desktop. When you copy the new Mail folder over, and you know it works - delete the desktop copy.

  • Recovering mail messages after deleting Account

After deleting and recreating my account, I lost all my Inbox and Sent messages. I did a back up before I did this (mbox). However when I try to reimport (Import data from "other"), I navigate to the messages folder (which I backed up to an external drive), but I get a message "Error: No valid mbox files were found". The messages are all there, in a folder as .emix files, and I can open them up when I double click. I realize that I can reimport them into Mail by the Move command, but it appears I would have to do this one message at a time (and I have hundreds!).
Is there something I can be doing here to remedy the problem?
    Thanks,
    Carl

If your accounts are POP and you didn't delete the messages, then I suspect they are still there, but Mail doesn't know it. So try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file(s).
    3. Restart Mail and wait for it to import your existing messages. When it's finished, Mail should function normally and all your email should be back where it belongs with any luck.

  • Mail bounces between two accounts

I have two email accounts on my macbook pro - Earthlink and Gmail. I have Earthlink set as the default account from which mail should be sent and this works fine. The problem is when someone replies to my original message and then I reply back, the message always comes from Gmail. How can I correct this?

The easiest way to accomplish this is to *create a new admin account* in the System Preferences/Accounts Pref Pane. Once the new admin account *(make sure the Allow user to administer this computer is checked in the new account)* is set up and performing like it should (by logging into it and verifying that you can actually administer the computer), change your primary account (the account that owns your emails) to a standard account by un-checking the *Allow user to administer this computer* in the Accounts Pref Pane. You can still administer the computer with your standard account, you will have to provide your admin login and password in the Authentication dialog boxes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Synch mail messages between Mac and Iphone...

I have a Mac Book Pro (and use Mail) and an Iphone 4. I had expected my mail box to synch such that all the mails I sent on Iphone would appear as sent items on my Mac and vice versa. This doesnt seem to be happening. What am i doing wrong please? Or is this not possible?

It is not possible to "sync" like with music or photos. You need to setup your email account on your iPhone.

  • Transferring mail messages between macs

When I am away from home with my laptop, I post messages in the appropriate mailbox eg macstuff, financial, professional etc. When I return home what is the best was to transfer messages received, into my imac. I realise that if they were not posted into mailboxes they would be seen on the imac but after a few weeks the list becomes unwieldy and has to be filed.
How do other folk cope with this?
    David Thomas

There is a much simpler way than v cards to transfer everything in your address book, groups and all. Go into your old AB - file - back up database. It will create a file of your whole book. Transfer that file to a jump or whatever method you use, go to your new AB - file import the database file. Just know when you do this, that everyone you have exiting in your new AB will be gone, but it will tell you that.

  • How to move e-mail messages between folders?

Coming form the iPhone to Nokia I find it difficult to move messages from inbox to another folder which I have created. Moreover, I cannot create a new folder on my Nokia n97 mini. Please tell me if there is a way to do this. Thanks in advance!

Moving email messages to another file location is not supported. But I don't see a need for it. Creating folders as part of Messaging function is still the same routine, go to My Folders.

  • Recover mail & messages after Mail freeze

On our iBook G4 (10.4.11) Mail stopped & wants to set-up new account on re-opening. Looks like all our data is still on-board according to Finder. Only a very few messages retrieved. Mail on other User still works fine on same iBook. Everything is backed up on external drive, altho can't find any messages (encrypted in emix files?). How do I get it all back?

Hi Susnna, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Is this an IMAP or POP account?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
