Transfer movie metadata from iphoto to itunes?

Short version:
Does anyone know a good way to transfer the iPhoto metadata associated with a movie in the iPhoto Library to iTunes? IE: I want to import a movie stored in my iphoto library to itunes so I can watch it on my apple tv. But I want the description, title, and keywords that I associated with that movie when I organized it in iphoto to come over to the itunes entry for that movie as well. Any way to do that?
Long version:
So I have a bunch of movies that are organized in the iphoto library. These are movies that come in from my point-and-shoot camera, my iphone 4, and my digital SLR. I want to watch these movies on my apple TV (2nd Generation).
I know that I can option+drag these movies into itunes, and that will make them viewable on the ATV2. However, when I drag them over to itunes, none of the metadata that I added to the movies in iPhoto transfers. I'm talking about the "description", title, keyword information that I can add/edit in iPhoto. Apparently iTunes just grabs the actual filename from the movie file, but otherwise doesn't take in any metadata, and definitely doesn't take the info from the iPhoto library.
That means I have to fill in this information twice: once to organize the movies in my iPhoto Library (where the actual movie files are stored), and once to organize the movies in my iTunes library (where the movies are viewed from when using Home Sharing on ATV2. I find myself copy-pasting the description from the iPhoto interface into the description field in iTunes for each movie file, one by one. Got to be a way to automate this.
I understand that the metadata is stored in an iPhoto database somehow, and not actually written to the movie files themselves, but you would think that iTunes would be able to access the iPhoto database somehow. . .

But the description and title that you enter for a movie in iPhoto are clearly stored in some sort of iPhoto-only database, even if that metadata is not actually inserted into the movie file itself (.mov, .avi, whatever). Why can't iTunes access that database?
I would love for iTunes to be able to access iPhoto's database so that when I drag a movie from iPhoto to iTunes, the description and "title" are still applied. Instead, when I drag it over, iTunes just uses the movies file name as the title (often just some meaningless letter/number combination), and doesn't have anything in the description field. So I have to take the extra step of copy-pasting the description and title over from iphoto to itunes. Annoying.

  • How do I transfer movie clips from iPhoto to iPad?

How do I transfer movie clips from iphoto on my iMac, to my iPad?

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

  • TS1815 not able to transfer an image from iPhoto to iTunes for album artwork, using 11.4 (62) on  macbook pro late 2011 build date i7 processor, tried everything I have read out there-..

How do I get artwork into itunes, I have photes in iphoto but they will not transfer. The highlighting & get info stuff does not work or does changing the type of copy into itunes

    Thanks for the response,
    1. I live in Atlanta, close enough to an Apple store. But I just know that going there will probably mean I'll have to get the logic board replaced.
    2. The only thing I noticed before the first USB port started acting funny was that my battery status changed to "Service Battery". I plan on replacing it this week too.
    3. Nope only difference is that my battery drains kind of fast. After about 3-4 hours of my normal usuage with it (Internet, music, videos, and sometimes using Logic) it will be time to hook up the charger.
Would replacing the battery do anything? I'm not thinking it would but figure it'd be worth a shot since I've got to replace it anyway.
    And to goofyziggy,
I too noticed that most people who had this problem had some version of OSX 10.8.x

  • ITunes cannot transfer movies bought from the Store onto the iPad.

I have an iPad Mini and iTunes cannot transfer movies bought from the Store onto the iPad.
'Manually manage videos' is ticked but then after each sync attempt it goes back to being unticked.
'Sync only checked songs and videos' is also ticked and remains so.
When I choose the movies to put on the iPad, it gives me an indication of how much space I have (enough), lets me sync and then goes back to zero.

    thanks jolieteddie,
FYI, I searched the side pane here after asking this question.  It seems someone gave an answer that worked for me.  I could not drag and drop a pdf from the desktop into iTunes or the Ipad2 directly for whatever reason.  However in iTunes on the main menu under Files>Add, I could navigate to the desktop and add the pdf that way, then sync Books with the iPad. This worked!
I've attempted in the past to drag and drop videos, etc into iTunes and the iPad with no success. Somehow it never occurred to me to add them this way. Doh!
    Good tip.

  • Move photos from iPhoto to iPad NOT using iTunes

I need to move photos from iPhoto (MacBook Pro) to a friend's iPad.  Can't use iTunes as it reconfigures her pad sync to my Mac from her computer (a windows machine at her office) and changes everything on her pad.  Tried an app called "Wondershare TransPod for Mac". It didn't recognize the pad (iPad Mini iOS 6.1.2).  Any suggestions??

This has nothing to do with iPhoto for the Mac except a shared PhotoStream - http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ - could do it if you both have the correct hardware and software - otherwise post in the iPad forum -

  • Move photos from iPhoto to Pictures.

I want to move photos from iPhoto to Pictures. I exported about 16000 yesterday and trashed the iPhoto ones (still in Trash) but when I looked at the contents of the iPhoto library, they still appeared there.  Why is this?
If I've modified a pic, then export to Pictures, does the edited version get exported too?  If not, then is it deleted when I trash the iPhoto version?
Also, it seems that the date when the photo was taken is lost when I export ( it takes on the date of export).  Is there a way to retain it?

Original is just that: a byte by bye copy of the file you imported.
Current: Is the current version of the shot - this is as it exists in the Library. Exporting this will miss metadata.
The quality of the photo you export will depend on the export setting you choose.
You know, if you take a couple of seconds, iPhoto is much more flexible and easier to use than the Finder. The orgaisation, searching and sorting options are much richer. The problem with the Finder is simple: it organise files. But it makes no distinctions at all between kinds of files, and so offers exactly the same opportunities for organising your Photos, your Music, your Word files. It takes no account of standard metadata - like Exif date and so on.
iPhoto supports Raw on most cameras, and can be used as a "front end" to Photshop.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
One small conceptual leap and it might make things easier: That Jpeg is not your Photo. Easiest way to elaborate on this: In my iTunes Library I have an mp3 called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles'. But that mp3 is not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. The wrote a song, recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in a container. That container is adapted to the special opportunities of music, and it's an mp3 file.
Similarly, that Jpeg is just a container for your Photo.
Iphoto is about Photos. Import them, forget about the jpegs. Tiffs whatever, because they're just containers. Organise your photos - leveraging the special opportunities offered by the fact that they are photos -  and then anything you need to do with or to them can be done either with or via iPhoto.
When you export, the export dialogue simply asks you a: what you want to export (that's the kind) and everything else is about the container you want to put the Photo in.
Because, unless you export Originals, you're not exporting the file you imported, you're exporting the Photo you imported, and putting it in a new box.

  • How can I transfer my photobooks from iphoto 08 on osx 10.5.8 to iphoto 11 on macbook osx 10.8.1 without loosing layout?

How can I transfer my photobooks from iphoto 08 on osx 10.5.8 to iphoto 11 on macbook osx 10.8.1 without loosing layout? I prepared 3 books in iphoto 08  and wanted to order them yesterday. I got the message, that this version is not supported anymore. I also have a macbook osx 10.8.1. However I did not manage to transfer the books to it. What can I do? I really would not like to recreate the books from scratch in th new version.

You will have to convert your 08 library to iPhoto 11 by copying the library to your Macbook and opening it with iPhoto 11.
However, check to see if the theme you're using in 08 is available in 11.  If it isn't you'll probably lose the book or be assigned to some other theme.
If the theme you've chosen isn't available in 11 find one that is available in both versions and convert to it in the 08 library before you move it to 11.

  • Can I transfer songs etc from ipod to itunes library?

Can I transfer songs etc from ipod to itunes library?

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

How can I move photos from iPhoto to Finder?

It is better to export (file menu ==> export) since when you export you control exactly what you get - see the user tip on exporting for details
When you drag and drop you get the current preview with limited Metadata

  • I cannot export a slideshow from Iphoto to iTunes

I am trying to export a slideshow from iphoto to itunes so that I can burn it to a dvd.  The automatically sent to itunes is checked but the export button is not highlighted.

You are asking about a slideshow in iPhoto on your Mac, right? Then the iLife > iPhoto forum would have been the right one to ask your question. This forum is for iPhoto on IOS devices.
The automatically sent to itunes is checked but the export button is not highlighted.
The "Export" button will become active, when you select a size for your exported movie. Press one of the sizes , for example "Large", if you want to view the movie on your iPad or Apple TV.

  • Exporting movie file from iPhoto

I have a Panasonic Lumix that takes both still photos and movies. The movies and still photos are transferred from the memory card to iPhoto. I would like to use some of the movie clips (.mov format) in an iMovie project. I transferred the movie files from iPhoto to an external hard drive by using the File > Export function. All appeared to go well. When opening the transferred file on the external hard drive, the file size is much smaller than one would expect and the cursor goes right from the beginning to the end as if it was a still photo. In the export function box, the "kind" options include original, current, JPEG, TIFF. I chose current. It does not give an option for file size. The movie file opens and works fine in iPhoto but not the same file transferred to the external hard drive. To make matters worse, I deleted many of the iPhoto movie files after transferring them to the external hard drive and so they are lost forever. Is iPhoto not designed to export movie files ? Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance

Is there any way to export an entire album of both movies and photos at once? I want to set the movies to export as original and the photos as JPEG, HIGH, with Metadata. Possible?
No. The export window will only take one set of criteria at a time.

Look for them on your old computer, when found copy the files to a USB drive and move them to the new computer.
