Transfer music from iMac to MBP

I just got my new 15" MBP. I want to copy just the music (no podcasts, no TV shows and no movies) from my iTunes Library from my iMac to the MBP I have a clone of the iMac drive.
Can I just attach the clone drive to my MBP, launch iTunes and let it find the music?
Or is their a better way?
Thanks,
Andy

You mean (user)/Music? that should work but will bring everything over. If you copy just the iTunes Music folder within it you won't get the indexing, which is why I suggested copying the files from iTunes itself and then letting the new iTunes index them. It's going to take some time whatever you do if you have a lot of files.
Copying the entire Music folder should bring the playlists over with it. Otherwise, see the iTunes Help, which says:
Do any of the following:
Save a copy of a single playlist or use it in iTunes on another computer: Select the playlist, choose File > Library > Export Playlist, and choose XML from the Format pop-up menu.
Import an iTunes playlist: Choose File > Library > Import Playlist. The imported playlist includes only songs and videos already in your iTunes library. Unavailable items are removed from the list.
Save a copy of all your playlists: Choose File > Library > Export Library. The exported information is saved in XML format.

  • Transfer iPhoto from imac to MBP

    Hi.
I want to transfer my iphoto library from my imac to macbook pro. Both are running snow leopard and have latest version of iphoto. What is the easiest way to do this?
    thx

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    Regards

  • Transfer music from imac to imac via dvd?

i have my cd collection as well as my itunes music on my home imac. i wanted to take it to my work. can i write it to a dvd as data at home and then put it in my itunes at work? i was thinking that this would be the quickest way...
    thanks for any help!

Yes, you take your purchased stuff and put them into a playlist and burn them to a normal Audio CD. You can now import those to any computer's iTunes just like any normal Audio CD. If you wanted you could reimport them to the same computer if you wanted them in a different format like MP3.
The CDs you imported previously are now just data files. You don't even need to use iTunes. You can go into the Finder, navigate to your iTunes folder, then iTunes Music folder and you will see all the folders and MP3 files (or whatever you imported them as). You can copy those folders and files to standard data DVDs, data CDRs, or even an external hard drive and then move them to another computer.

If both Macs are on the same network, enable homesharing, you can then import music from one to the other without affecting what's already on there.

  • Transfer music from old iPod to new iMac

Have a 30G iPod that was synced with old computer that crashed. Bought new iMac and want to transfer music from iPod to new iMac. Tech Support not able to help. Any LEGAL ideas?

With a nod to veteran poster Zevoneer...here's what you should know.
The transfer of content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, but there are third-party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. Some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Check out the web pages for more info. This is just a sample of what's available.

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. That process is detailed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US

How do I transfer music from my itunes playlist to my iphone?

Maddening!!!!! What used to work now doesn't!
Where did simple drag and drop go? Apple invented it!
I have an iPhone 5s and want to transfer Playlists from my desktop iMac to the iPhone. I have had these products since their first releases years ago. I am a computer power user. What used to be a simpe "drag and drop" of your Playlist (yes, in Column View which I have turned on now) to your iPhone was easy and you were set. It is now impossible to do. Or easily!
There are been other posts on this. I have tried them all. None work or the explanations are not adequate.
WHY IS THIS SAME **** HARD WHEN IT USED TO BE DRAG AND DROP?
PS: Fire the iTune Product Manager who did this version..get Jony Ive on the case to fix the User Interface Design ASAP!

  • How do I transfer music from iPod to iPod

How do I transfer music from iPod to iPod and I don't have windows on my MAC. I don't want to have to load everything again onto the new ipod.

You can't transfer directly from iPod to iPod.
But it's easy if you are using the sync setting to put music on your first iPod. You just connect the second iPod to your Mac and sync it to your iTunes library, like you did with the first one.
If you are using the +manually manage music+ setting AND the music on the first iPod is NOT in your iTunes library (only on the iPod), then it is not so easy. You need to use a third party utility first, such as Senuti or YamiPod

to transfer your music files from the first iPod to the iMac. Put the music into your iTunes library. Sync the second iPod to the iTunes library (or transfer manually if you don't want to use sync for some reason).
