  • How do you transfer music from IPOD to New Computer

What do you do if you get a new computer? Itunes says IPOD is synced with another library and will not transfer music.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • How do I sync music from ipod touch to computer.

I have 5.5GB of music on my ipod touch that I copied from my own cd's to an old computer that are now on my ipod touch.  I want to sync the music from my ipod touch to my computer.  itunes lists all the music but a message comes up when I try to listen to it on my computer saying "this song cannot be used because the original file cannot be found.
I have all the music on my ipod touch and it all works and I don't want to lose it if I sync.  It says when I sync that all music on my ipod touch will be lost, it will only sync with the music on the computer.  HELP.

  • Old Hard drive crashed, need to transfer music from iPod to new computer

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. All I have is the music from my iPod. I would like some help or if anyone knows anything about how to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer. I guess my new computer is not the original authentic one in the itunes system and will not let me exchange music from my iPod to new computer. I would appreciate help if anyone has ideas. Thank bunches.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transfer music from iPod touch to iTunes on a new PC

I recently got a new PC and I am trying to transfer all of my music from my iPod touch (my old computer is in a different country so I can no longer access it) to my new PC. I know that I can transfer iTunes purchases, but many of my songs are from hard copies of albums or were downloaded from Amazon - is it possible to transfer all of these from iPod to iTunes?
    Any help appreciated!

  • How do I transfer music from ipod touch

My iphone is new and has no music.
My computer crashed a while back and I lost my music.
All my music is on my iPod touch.
How do I transfer it back to my iPhone &/or computer?
Both my iPhone and iPod are showing in my iTunes and I can even play the music from my iPod.
But I don't seem to be able to either drag & drop, or copy & paste my music.
Syncing only warns me I will replace the music on my ipod, WHICH I DONT WANT TO DO.
    Help please!

There are a few programs out there that allow you to transfer your music from your iPod to your computer, but I believe you have to pay for most of them. Here is a link to a program I know of:
    http://www.digidna.net/tuneaid/
There are other programs out there that will do the same thing, so I would start doing some searches on google and see what you find. I also found this article on Apple's website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329

  • IPod Nano, 6th generation, need to transfer music from iPod to new computer!

Just recently my iPod went black. All other features work, so I am assuming the LED light is damaged. The 1 year warranty is up. It would be easier to just get a new iPod.
However, this iPod is now working with a new computer. I have set up the device to only be changed manually so that I did not lose any of the music on the device.
Surely there must be a way to take the music from my iPod and transfer it to the new computer? I am desperate for help; with my iPod damaged I feel like I have lost part of my soul!

The suggestion above may work for you. I hope it does.
For future reference, please keep in mind that the iPhone was never intended to be a a backup device. External hard drives are cheap and both Mac OS X and Windows 7 have built in automated backup utilities. Once you set it up, you just let it run.
    PLEASE use them!

My computer crashed and now my music is only on my iPod. How can I transfer it back into iTunes?
    iPod Shuffle

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use, this is required for most if not all the utilities listed below so they can access the files: Using your iPod as a storage drive
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is also manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 and Windows Vista so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location mention for instance but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. • Old computer died, transfer music from ipod to new computer?

Just recently my computer died. This computer was the computer I used with my ipod. I got a new computer, but I don't know how to plug my ipod into it without it deleting all the music I have. I tend to lose/scratch/brake cds, which is why I love my ipod. the problem is that this means I can't find some of the music and only have it on my ipod. Is there anyway to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer, or can I never plug my ipod into a computer without the music being deleted?
I went to the FAQ pg about putting music from old computer onto a new one, but you need to have the old computer, and my old computer is completely dead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
