Transfer Music to Another Account

In the process of breaking up with my longtime SO...We have 10 years of itunes purchases on our joint account. Can I transfer them to my new one?

I would like to share my experience with a similar problem. I have had ITunes for about 8-10 years now and purchased a bunch of music and movies. Not too long ago I had to get a new computer and when I downloaded iTunes to the new computer and signed in none of my purchases were there? Then I realized that over the years I had purchased items under two different email addresses that had since been closed. Not knowing what to do I called their support and got someone who was able to help me. If you log into Apple ID.com with your current email address or ID, go to manage my accounts. This will take you to a new page where you will see Manage your Name, ID and Email Addresses. On this page you can add as many old email addresses or IDs that you may have purchased items under. The catch is that when you add the old info the system will automatically send an email to the old address for verification. However, there is a way out of this. Where it says alternate email address there is also an edit button to the right. If you click on that edit button you can add a new email address for the verification of the old one to be sent to. The trick is that before you do this you will need to create a new email account (it has to be one that is not currently being used) and then add that for the verification. I had two email accounts that were now closed so I had to create two new email address (one for each closed account) and add the new addresses. Once you do this you will then get a response that a verification email was sent to each of the new email accounts. After I completed those steps I signed into each new account and was able to verify each of the old email addresses. Once that was completed I signed back into iTunes and low and behold everything that I had ever purchased was listed because now the old email addresses were linked to my current one. All I had to do was click on the download button. I hope this info helps anyone out there that is in the same predicament as I was.
Now what I want to do is back up all these purchases so that I don't have to deal with that problem again.

No you can't, all content (apps, music etc) that you download from the store will remain tied to the account that downloaded it - you can't transfer them to another account, nor can you merge accounts.

If you mean iTunes libraries, sync it with the desired iTunes library. If you mean iTunes Store accounts, an iPod can contain content from five of them at once with no special actions needed.

Trying to authorize my iTunes to play music from another account

I was trying to play music from another account in my iTunes. I got the message that my computer isn't authorized. I entered the email address and password of the account with which the music purchased and got another message that says "This computer is already authorized. Including this one, you have authorized 4 computers out of your available 5." Yet, I am still unable to play the music in my iTunes. Suggestions? Thanks.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:

You can't. Music purchased from iTunes is associated in perpetuity (like, forever) to the account from which it was originally purchased. There is not a way to change it.
It is possible, but clumsy, to manage music from multiple accounts. Unless you have some unusual requirement, it is best to use just a single account.

Content acquired with an Apple ID is permanently tied to that Apple ID. There is no way to transfer media from one Apple ID to another.
For what silly reason would anyone give away their Apple ID? Just because the bf did not have one is no reason to give him your Apple ID. Make him create his own. Email addresses from Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and many others are free.

Apps are DRM protected & tied to the account that was used to purchase them. They cannot be transferred to another account. However, you are permitted under the EUSLA to "share" apps with up to 5 users in the same household. To do so, you would first disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences, which in windows is under the edit menu, on the computer in the same household you want to share this app with. Connect your phone, itunes running, DO NOT SYNC!. Sign whoever's computer this is out of itunes.. Sign into itunes using YOUR ACCOUNT INFO. Go up to Store>Authorize This Computer. Then go up to File>Transfer Purchases. All of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred. Sign out of itunes, disconnect your phone. Sign whoever's computer this is back into itunes. You can then sync the app in question to their phone. All updates to this app must be done through YOUR account.
You can do the same through itunes "Home Sharing" feature.
