Transfer new events from iPod?

I have iCal at home and work. I don't want a .mac account and it seems like I should be able to sync my calenders with my iPod, i just can't figure out how to do it.
When I open the Calendars folder on my iPod in Finder and open one of the iSync calendar files there, it switches to iCal and the message "This calendar contains new events. Please select a destination calendar." But there aren't any new events and when I select a destination calendar, it duplicates the events already listed (because they are already on iCal and on my iPod).
It seems like there should be a way to import only new events so they are not duplicated over and over. Any one know of one?

The calendars that you see in the folder marked "Calendar" on your iPod all have names that start with ISync. They are files of your individual calendars, and you will only see them on your iPod. You won't see these files in your computer. You'll see them in your Finder window because it shows you what is in your iPod's hard drive, if you've checked "enable disk use" in your iPod's preferences in iTunes. Think of them as copies of what you have done so far in each of your individual calendars. I still think of calendar as meaning everything on my calendar, but iCal sees calendar as meaning each subject or category of the whole database. The database is everything, all of the categories you have in iCal. The ISync file for a specific calendar/category is everything you have in each individual category up to the point that you sync your iPod with your computer.
If someone wanted to copy just their "Work" calendar/category to a computer at work, they could import the ISync-Work.ics file from their iPod's "Calendars" folder to their computer at the office. That sounds like what you have described. It wouldn't add or update just one event, though, as you've discovered. It will import everything that's in that category. This is good if you don't want your personal calendars from your home computer or your iPod copied to your work computer. However, if someone did need all of their calendars, everything in their other computer's iCal from home copied to the work computer, then using iCal to make a back up is the better choice. I make a back up of my iCal to my computer regularly just in case I need it for any reason. If I want to have everything the same on my work computer, I can use my iPod's hard drive like a flash drive or portable drive. I can then go to iCal on the other computer, and choose "Revert to Database Backup". Technically, that means to go back to a previously saved version of everything you had in iCal. You could revert to iCal as you had it last year, last month, or yesterday. But you can also "revert" to the backup you made this morning or five minutes ago. It's puts in everything that was backed up to that point. Even if I am only updating one event, this takes very little time to do it this way. At this time, I don't know that there are any other options, other than the way you've been doing it and the way I've described. It's important to note, also, that If you've deleted events from one computer, the other computer is going to be exactly the same as the first, if you go this route.
It also sounds like it is time for iCal to get some kind of update to better meet people's current needs. We'll just have to wait for Apple or someone else to create an update or write a program that gives iCal more flexibility!

  • How to transfer iPhoto events from iPod Classic to Mac

I have an old iPod Classic 80GB and used to sync all my iPhoto events with it (full resolution pictures and disk use enabled).
Now my MacBook White HD crashed, and I would like to transfer all the events to a MacBook Air running Mountain Lion (v10.8.2). I could easily copy and paste the "Full Resolution" folder, which has all the pictures. However, I could not manage a way of transfering the photos metadata, i.e., I was unable to transfer the events' names along with the photos or keep them sepparated in events.
I have read this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1930, according to which the iPhoto should identify my iPod and would be able to import the pictures. But the iPhoto (v9.4.2) can't "see" the iPod (perhaps because it's a much newer iPhoto version compared to the one running in my old Tiger MacBook White). And if it could, I'm afraid it wouldn't identify the events in which every group of pictures is split.
How can I import the photos sepparated in iPhoto events from my iPod Classic to the Mac? Any ideas?

Yes, iPhoto is the best choice for you.

  • Trying to transfer music to itunes on new pc from ipod that was synced from old pc that is no longer usable

old pc from which i synced my ipod is broken.
cannot perform a direct file transfer.
need to import music to new pc from ipod, but neither itunes nor the computer itself will import the music files.
i do not have all of the old cds, and it would be an extremely time-consuming process going through so many discs to pick out over 800 single songs anyway. help?

old pc ran on windows 8
ipod software updated 6 jan 2015

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Technically if you no longer own the CD then you no longer have the right to a copy of the music.

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

Can I transfer songs etc from ipod to itunes library?

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

  • How can I transfer my music from ipod nano to iphone?

    hi,
i'm seriously considering buying an iphone. but before i do, i just have a couple of questions:
    1. How can I transfer my music from ipod nano to iphone?
    2. Will there be an iphone with higher memory capacity than 16gb? If so, when will it be out. (If there will be memory sizes of ipod similar to ipod classic, then i think it's better if i wait a little longer considering that there's only little difference in the price).
    Thank you!!

I don't believe there will be an iPhone with storage capacity equivalent to the iPod Classic anytime soon - at least not within the next month, or even this year or the next.
The iPod Classic has a hard drive. The iPod Touch and iPhone have Flash storage. Flash storage is more expensive than the hard drive equivalent, but the cost for Flash storage is coming down - supply an demand is probably helping this. The iPod Touch has double the storage capacity of the largest iPhone storage capacity since the iPod Touch doesn't include a cell phone - the case has more room for two 16GB Flash drives. More than likely there will be a 32GB iPhone at some point, but I believe it will be a while before we see a 64GB iPhone or larger approaching the storage capacity that is available with an iPod Classic.

  • It doesn't work when I press "transfer purchased items from ipod" and I don't know specidicly whitch item I need to transfer

It doesn't work when I press "transfer purchased items from ipod" and I don't know specidicly whitch item I need to transfer.
Whenever i press "transfer purchased items from ipod", itunes sync's for about 3 seconds, but I still can't install updates on the ipod without itues warning me about purchased items on the ipod, that aren't in the itunes library. I've tried folowing the steps in itunes help, but I can only find a step guide for when you know the specific item that needs transferring, and I donøt know that specific item.

This Apple Tech Note explains the process:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
It will transfer all purchased items that the computer you are transferring to is authorised to play: you don't have to select the items.

transfer of photos from ipod to ipad via bluetooth, help

The blluetooth isn't meant to do that. It's largely meant for headphones and keyboards.
now, if you have the camera connection kit  you can attach your iPod to your iPad using that (plugging the iPod's charging cable to the USB part of the CCK) and the photos will transfer. I've done it with my Touch.

You'll likely need the assistance of some third party software such as the one below to get the job done.  Keep in mind that your photos will no longer be in their full resolution, but instead will be the scaled down thumbnail versions that were optimized for viewing on your iPod.

  • Transfer/Copy Music from iPod

I have an older 80GB iPod Classic that has a lot of music that I want to back up.
I have tried to transfer the music to my computer different ways, but the only music that will copy is music I purchased on iTunes a week ago. I have music from Cds I no longer have and worry that one day the iPod will stop working and will have lost almost 3000 songs.
I want to be able to have a back-up of all the music, but seem lost.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except (as you noted) songs purchased from the iTunes Store.
However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your current iTunes library.  Going forward, your backup strategy should be to back up your iTunes library (on the computer), not back up your iPod.
