Transfer of audio files to MacBook Air

I need to transfer audio files from an Olympus VN711PC digital voice recorder to my MacBook Air and play back on the Mac. It transfers but when opens says "quicktime can't open." Can anyone tell me whether I can do this and what I need to do. Thanks

Look at the downloaded file on your computer. If it has an extensions, as in "filename.ext", then what is that extension. If none is visible then select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the filename panel uncheck the box to Hide the extension to make it visible.
Lastly, check the camera's manual to find out how to get audio files out that would be compatible with computers, especially Macs.

  • How to transfer a 8GB .MOV file from MacBook Air (late 2013) via external HD (Samsung S2 Portable) to a Dell laptop ?

    Hi guys and galls,
How can I transfer a 8GB .MOV file from MacBook Air (mid 2013) via external HD (Samsung S2 Portable) to a Dell laptop ? The mentioned file currently will not let me transfer it to my ext HD. I want to upload it afterwards to a Dell laptop with Windows software installed.
Reformatting the drive doesn't seem to be the sollution, since this will erase all the data stored on the ext HD, and it will only allow me to use the drive with either Apple or Microsoft equipment.
Please HELP, running out of options here... Thnx, "Apple-Dummy"

How can I tell whether my External HD is formatted NTFS?
Attach the HDD to your MBP.  Click on the icon on the desktop COMMAND+I. It will produce a display such as this and look what it says by FORMAT.
How do I format my External HD: FAT or ExFAT?
Do this on a PC.  You will have to use the Windows equivalent of Disk Utility.  I am not a Windows user so I cannot give you detailed information regarding this.  I have seen on these forums that there are at times compatibility problems if formatted on a Mac.
Which one is preferred, FAT or ExFAT? And why?
Use ExFAT.  FAT has a file size limitation of 4 GB.
    Ciao.

i can't transfer downloaded content from my macbook air to my external hdd, when i try to drag it into the hrd drive it wont go in how do i fix this ?

What format is the external HDD in? If it's NTFS (= proprietary Windows), then OS X can read it but not write.
Eventually copy all content from the drive to a safe place, the re-format. FAT32 is the format which both Windows and OS X can read and write.

  • Why is there suddenly no audio from my macbook air?

Why is there suddenly no audio on my macbook air?

did you put your Air to sleep with headphones attached, or closed the monitor with phones attached?
Do not sleep your Air (close the monitor with headphones attached) with headphones attached, this is known to affect some Air under Mavericks.
      * this occurrence is being looked into.
Much testing on my own and others as well show that, in some instances, this occurs in Mavericks.
If you choose you may contact Apple for an appt and diagnostics.
However as said, refrain from having phones attached when you close the monitor to prevent this until it is resolved
    Test this and re-verify

  • For ICD-BX132, How do I transfer an audio file to a PC?

I just bought a ICD-BX132 voice recorder. There is no USB port, and no cable or software were provided. How do I transfer an audio file to a PC?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Quick Start Guide and two LR03 (size AAA) alkaline batteries are only supplied along with this IC Recorder.
You can use a stereo mini plug cable to transfer the recorded files from IC Recorder to the Computer. Plug one end of the cable to the Headphone jack on the IC recorder and plug the other end of the cable into the Microphone jack on the computer. You can purchase the cable from any nearest local Electronics store.
Go through the steps mentioned on the below knowledge base article to transfer the recorded files to Computer.

  • How to transfer music files from Macbook Air to iPod touch?

i have a new Macbook Air and an Ipod Touch. i have loaded music files onto the Ipod successfully, and separately made purchases from Itunes on my Macbook. i want to integrate the music libraries on both devices - how can this be done?

"i have loaded music files onto the Ipod successfully,"
    From where?
The ipod is not a sotrage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You can simply sync your ipod to the the Macbook to get the music form the macbook to the ipod

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.  If you have to use a small flash drive to do the moving you can copy the files and folders groups at a time but make sure they all end up in the same folder structure in the end.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Longer answers if for any reason you do not think all library files are inside your iTunes folder (changed preferences settings at some point):
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

  • Opening an IMG_2712 Mov. file on Macbook Air?

I was sent a few Quicktime videos with the tag IMG_2712 Mov. and then couldn't open them on a Macbook Air that has been updated so it has the quicktime software that comes with Maverick 10.9.5 Version (1.3 GH Intel Core 15). This tag is not listed in the Quicktime tags listed on the Apple site. Is there another application that will open them? I tried to put them in to iMovie without success.

The filename suggests the video was recorded on a digital camera or a device like an iPhone. For instance, an iPhone video would use the generic MOV file container to hold H.264 video with AAC audio which should normally be compatible with your QT X player. Unfortunately, depending on how the videos were handled, the data could be corrupted, the file containers could be corrupted, or the files may be being trapped by player for security reasons.
My recommendation would be to try playing the file in an app like VLC which might play files using codecs which are incompatible with or unconvertible by QT X. If the file plays in VLC, then you should be able to determine what codecs where used to create the file and whether or not the content should be QT X compatible. If file plays and is not QT X compatible, then the videos should be convertible to QT X formats. If the files play and are already in QT X compatible formats, then the files may a have a security problem which may be gotten around by simply copying the compressed data to a new file container. On the other hand, if the file will not open and play in an app like VLC, then it is most likely that the videos were corrupted before or during transmission to you and you would need to request the files be resent in a more diligent manner to avoid such problems.

An account is what you use to buy media from the iTunes Store. A library is a collection of media on a computer.  Which one?
