Transfer of Files from G5 to Mac Pro

My mac Pro is on it's way, I currently have a G5 with 2 hard drives, the drive in bay 2 has just beig used for Time Machine back ups, can I just slam that drive into bay 3 of the Mac Pro and transfer Itunes, iphoto, and my documents?
How did you transfer your work, info appreciated,

Yes, you can do that provided the drive is a SATA drive, which it should be. Read the following:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ copy any preferences needed for third-party applications
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
If you want cookies:
/Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
/Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
For FireFox:
/Home/Library/Applications Support/FireFox
/Home/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

How do you transfer files from my old Del to my new mac book Pro?  Also would it be better to ransfer the files to a external hard drive?

Thanks Alot that works with purchasing a hard drive do you know any particular good ones?
Well you only really have a choice of Seagate and Western Digital now, however if you buy Hitachi external drive, even though WD owns them, it should be the best drive of all, certainly better than Segate + Maxor.
I would like to have one wireless.
External drives are wired, but you can hook them to a router and the router acts as the wireless data transfer to the hard drive.

You can use the desktop version of iTunes app to transfer PDF files between your iPad and MacBook Pro.
Please take a look at the following FAQ document.
How to backup and restore PDF documents on your iPad/iPhone using iTunes
Please let us know if you have any questions about the steps that are described in the document.
Alternatively, if you use Acrobat.com (cloud storage), you can upload/save all of your PDF files on Acrobat.com and access them from your new iPad.

  • Transfer outlook files from pc to mac

I transferred all of our Outlook files from the PC to our new Mac Air with migration assistant. It created a new acct And took two hours to transfer all the files so I know they're on the computer but where are they and how do I get them in outlook on the Mac?

They were probaby imported to the Mail app on the Mac.
If you are looking to move it to Outlook on the Mac:
Open Mail and export the mailboxes to .mbox format (Mailbox Menu>Export Mailbox) that will produce an .mbox file, then in Outlook:
On the Outlook for Mac File menu, click Import.
Click Contacts or messages from a text file, and then click the right arrow.
Click Import messages from an MBOX-format text file, and then click the right arrow.
    Follow the instructions.

  • How do I transfer my files from iTunes to WindowsXP Pro or visa versa?

I'd like to be able to figure out how to transfer music files out of iTunes to Windows Media, and from Windows media to itunes.
I've got a bunch of lecutures in both, but both don't do what I need them to do. In a perfectworld, I'd be able to get iTunes to sync to my mp3 player and give Windows Meda Player a swift kick into the ether where it belongs!!!
It appears there was a little box entitled "write protect" that was clicked over the last few years as I was ripping my lectures on to Windows Media Player that now won't let me move those files much of anywhere.
Could someone please help me figure this out?
    Thanks!

If the Copy protect music option was selected in your WMP Rip Music settings, your only alternative is probably going to be burning the files affected as Audio CD's, uncheck the Copy protect music option and then reimport the CD into iTunes - or import it directly into iTunes.
If the files currently in iTunes are .mp3's, you can just copy them to a location WMP can access them. If they're .m4a files, though, you will have to convert them to .mp3's first.

  • Transfer Raptor 74s from G4 to Mac Pro?

I'll be taking delivery of a new Mac Pro 2.66 Friday. The PDF manual says that extra hard drives "must" be SATA 3 Gbit/s. However, from reading various posts here it seems some people are successfully using SATA 1.5 Gbit/s drives in these machines.
I have a pair of WD Raptor 74 Gb drives which I use to stream audio samples from. At present, these are installed in a FirmTek SeriTek/1EN2 dual-bay hot-swap external SATA enclosure connected to a SeriTek/1SE2 PCI card in my venerable G4 dual 800.
Since this G4 has been used with both OS X 10.3.9 and Mac OS 9.2.2, both these Raptors have Mac OS 9 drivers installed.
    I have two questions:
    1. Can I simply plug these drives into the Mac Pro as they are, Mac OS 9 drivers notwithstanding?
    2. Since FirmTek don't seem to offer an equivalent eSATA PCIe card for the Mac Pro, are there any options for continuing to use the FirmTek enclosure with the new machine or is it scrapheap material?
    Kind regards.
    G4 dual 800   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I used this to try to create a "hybrid" universal boot drive. I don't recommend using it, as it had some short-comings.
Apple Developer Docs have this to say about GPT.
... we always create a 200 MB EFI system partition (ESP) (see ESP Explained) as the first partition on the disk. We also leave 128 MB of free space after each partition (not including the ESP).
    - Your hybrid isn't going to have a normal partition scheme.
Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI), includes a new partitioning scheme, GPT.
The EFI system partition (ESP) is a special partition from which EFI can load EFI (boot-time) device drivers. The EFI firmware in Macintosh computers fully supports the ESP, although Apple does not currently use it for anything. We create the ESP on big disks to make things easier if we ever need to use ESP-based drivers. We strongly recommend that you do the same.
APM that avoids the last block by creating a small Apple_Free partition at the end of the disk (this is what Apple's implementation of APM does).
For GPT, however, this problem is much more serious. The GPT specification requires that the last block of the disk contain the backup partition table header; you can't just choose to avoid it! The Road to GPT
A GPT-aware program can recognize that a disk contains a GPT by checking block 1 and the last block, as discussed in the EFI specification.
In addition, it should check that block 0 contains a protective MBR. If block 0 contains any other form of MBR, it should refuse to manipulate the disk. Specifically, if block 0 contains an MBR with more than one partition entry, or a single partition entry whose OSType is not 0xEE, it is not a compliant GPT disk, and manipulating the GPT may cause dangerous inconsistencies between it and the legacy MBR.
WARNING: Failure to comply with this recommendation may result in the loss of user data.
    GPT Specification
Last September some people ran into trouble with their G5 drives until they changed them. Some disk repair program could run into trouble.
    Opens Terminal: Man page:
    BUGS
The development of the gpt utility is still work in progress.
IMPORTANT: While Intel-based Macintosh computers can boot from GPT and APM, Apple only supports booting Mac OS X on these machines from GPT

  • Transfer Iwork files from iPad to mac

I have just purchased a Macbook. I've been using iWork on my iPad for 5 months, and would like to see my pages, numbers and keynote files on my macbook. I'm wondering how I do this? If I change a documents contents, will it change on the macbook also?
    hope someone can help..

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iWork documents that are either created or edited on an iOS device will automatically sync between all iOS devices, but will need downloading from the iWork feature of the iCloud.com website on your web browser in order to view them on your Mac.
Likewise any documents that you create or edit on your Mac, will need to be uploaded to the same location, if you are to share them between your iOS devices.

I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine.  I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one?  Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well?  It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

  • Is it possible to transfer photos, files from iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth?

Before I got the iphone 5s, I was using a Nokia phone.  I was able to transfer photos, files from my Nokia phone to macbook pro via bluetooth connections.  It was very simple and POSSIBLE (even though apple support staff said it was not possible to do so).  My macbook pro does NOT need to be paired with Nokia phone as long as it can DISCOVER the nokia phone and vice versa.
Hence, after i got the iphone 5s recently, I'd expected both devices (iphone 5s and macbook pro) to communicate and connect via bluetooth as easily as Nokia phone.  However, I was disappointed to find out the iphone 5s kept "searching" for discoverable device even though my macbook DISCOVERED the iphone!!  Thus, I was NOT able to transfer any files from these two devices.
Any apple technical people care to explain why BOTH are apple products cant work?  A Nokia phone and macbook can.  Very strange, isn't it?

Althought, you can use bluetooth to transfer photos, files from iPhone to Macbook,However,it is so slowly,if you want to quickly copy photos/files from iPhone to Mac,you can use tools or software to help you, such as iStonsoft iPhone to Mac Transfer,This is a very professional tool,Hope this helps!

I was trying to transfer some files from the Desktop in my computer to an external USB drive.
    RESULTS
After starting to transfer the files, the external hard drive I got the following panels:
The external hard drive was unmounted and disappeared from the Desptop., and the Disk Utility could not find the drive. The drive external power was also turned off. I had to re-power the external drive to mount it, and rebooted my computer.
This was the only way to have the external drive to be seen by the Disk Utility. The external drive is a Calvary CADA-SA2 (RAID1).
    EXPECTED RESULTS
The second panel was expected when the hard drive was disconnected.
This application of the forum now does not let me to past item. I does not let me import anything from my computer. It sucks.
The compuyter i'm using is a Mac Pro with OS X 10.7.3. Similar problem occured with a Mac Book Pro laptop, using the same OS X.
I have several pages that include the SYSTEM INFO requested. That I can send you if you send me your email address. I can also then add my pdf file thatalso includes CRASH LOG, although I don't think is applicable.
