My computer was full due to itunes. I bought an ext. hard drive, and followed 'iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Music folder'. I was thrilled when my C: drive was freed up. But, now, all my old songs have and exclamation point at the beginning of it info bar and won't play. It gives me "The song " " could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" And, the songs will not load onto my ipod either. When I put new songs on, they aren't saving to my new external hard drive, but where they used to save. So, my C: drive is filling back up. My original plan was to transfer the entire itunes program to the drive, but never found info on how to do that.

I've had the exact same problem with the songs being locked.
I haven't had the new songs problem though.
Since I haven't been able to solve the first problem, I'm thinking about sweeping my library clean, and then just re-importing everything from the new location. OK, I'll lose my playlists (all 5 of them), and the play count etc, but I can't see another way of pointing itunes to 10000 songs separately.

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

Disc won't eject....ext. harddrive and cf reader

hi, im having an issue with periphs on my ibook. i got a mac compatible ext. drive and it works great. problem is it won't eject. no other apps running and it still won't eject. i figured out that i had a jpg in the trash that wouldn't delete and renamed and then deleted and it started working again. that lasted a few days. now its back to the same thing of not ejecting anything i plug in. ipod, ext. harddrive, cf cardreader. any advice? thanks.

Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. You can refresh the backup after you've checked that the deduping process hasn't been over enthusiastic.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
Once you have your library backed up to the external drive you can press and hold down shift as you start iTunes, then connect to the copy on the external to check everything works properly before restoring the laptop. Deauthorize the computer before the restore. After the rebuild, restore your library (again I'd recommend using SyncToy for this) before installing iTunes.

I just recently pruchase a Mac Book Pro. On my old PC I have an ext harddrive with all my itunes music backup on this ext drive. Now I have a New Mac Book Pro and was wondering do I need to configure anything on macbook to get the music from my ext hard drive which was loaded from the old pc laptop?

By extrenal trainings, do you mean course type which is of type "External WBT" or "External classroom training"?.
If so, then usually information is exchanged bewteen the SAP & the other external system in a standard way through pre-defined messages.I have worked only through XI for such a scenario. In Exchange Infrastrcuture, there are standard XML kind of data which is used for LSO & external trainings. Through this, the booking,cancellation & other related data are passed on to the SAP system from the external systems.
For this to work, there are a few things that need to be ensured.
The same person should exist in both the systems.
For WBT, the course content is externally hosted & is linked thru infotype 5042 when the course type is created
For classroom trainings, the course(E) & not D is linked with infotype 5042 for external training details.

Trying to transfer files to new ext HD

Hi,
This should be a no-brainer, but theres a glitch somewhere. iMac G5, w/ a new out of the box Axiom 250G HD. Plugged in via USB 2.0 & ready to use it as the new home for iTunes music files.
So I cant even create a new blank folder in the ext HD, it says it cant be written to. Checking the ext HD in 'get info' I see it is mounted but can only read, not write.
went into disk utilities to verify permissions & none of the 4 buttons were options (verify, repair permissions, etc) all grayed out.
The computer sees the HD but that all, I cant wrtie / transfer files to it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Use the Disk Utility to reformat the drive in the Mac OS Extended format, or MS-DOS if you need to use the drive with a PC. Mac OS X cannot write to NTFS disks natively; since there's nothing currently on the drive, it's probably best to reformat it.

Computer crashed, can't transfer old songs to new harddrive. Help?

My old Dell w/ Windows XP crashed and Dell sent me a new harddrive that I installed on my computer. All my songs are on my IPOD Nano (3rd Gen) and I want to transfer the music from my Nano to the computer with the new harddrive, but when I hook up the Nano to the computer I only see a faded image of the songs and I cannot download them to the computer or play them from my computer. How do I get the songs on the Nano onto my new harddrive? All the songs were either previously purchased through the I-Tunes store or downloaded off my old CD's, there were no other sources for my music.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

ITunes 10. Moved m4a files from ext harddrive to my new laptop

I had an older laptop with an external harddrive storing my music. That laptop since died and was repalced with a new one. looks like the files are m4a files on the harddrive. The iTunes 10 looks like it processes the files when I add that folder to the libary but I never see any music. The m4a files can not be played in windows media player or any other player I have downloaded. I did some research and it says the m4a files are unprotected. Many are just loads from my CDs (over 25,000 songs plus) a few was purchased from iTunes. I had several iTunes accounts for the home. One for movies, the parents and the kids. If these was created by various other accounts will that affect the ability to play? I don't see how as they all played on the older laptop. Music was also shared with a desktop and a Crestron media server. Thanks for any insite on this.

Assuming that you're using the same iTunes version on both and there is no music on your new laptop:
On your iBook just replace the folder "iTunes" and all its content in your user/Music directory with a copy of "iTunes" (all subfolder included) of your eMac.

iTunes is still looking for the iTunes Folder that you deleted. Just open iTunes and then select iTunes at the top menu bar, then select Preferences. When the Preference windows opens, select Advance, select General and you will see the old location listed. Now click the Change Button and from the popup window, navigate to the New iTunes Library Folder Location on the external drive and select it. Then click the Open button and the new path to the iTunes Library should now be set. Click the OK button to close the Preferences window and If iTunes doesn't open them, just quit & reopen iTunes.

Very slow Firewire data transfer when connected to ext. HDD

Hi, I have both a Mini and a Mac book. When I connect my Macbook upto a WD MyBook Premium ext HDD and use SuperDuper! to back it up, I get an average copy speed of about 20 m/s. On my Mini I get about 2m/s!
Both the machines are more or less the latest version, that is less than 3 months old.
Any ideas why the Mini is sooooo slow?

Here are the ideas I can come up with ...
Be sure your Mini is configured to not run spotlight indexing on the external drive.
What model Mini do you have and how much RAM?
Are these incremental backups, or clones?
The last time I cloned my mini's hard drive with superduper over firewire, if I recall correctly I was getting speeds of about 10-12.
Another factor may be how full the source internal drives are: a Mac with a very full hard drive will be slower.
And I'm assuming you have multiple partitions on the external. The first partition probably has a slight speed advantage over the other partitions because of less head seeking movement.
