Transfer of Licenses on Wireless Controller 2504

we have two controllers, they were initially set up to operate independently but are not set up as Primary and Secondary with N+1 fail over.  Can the licenses from the secondary controller be transferred to the primary?
wireless controller is 2504

Hi
Did these WLC only have base AP license or adder license.
Base AP: *** You cant remove base-ap license from WLC and transfer to other.
Adder : *** Yes you can transfer adder license from one WLC to other.
Permanent or base licenses—These licenses are programmed into the controller hardware at the time of manufacturing. These licenses are base count licenses that cannot be deleted or transferred.
Adder licenses—These licenses are wireless access point count licenses that you can activate by accepting the RTU EULA. The EULA states that you are obliged to purchase the specified access point count licenses at the time of activation. You must activate these licenses for the purchased access points count and accept the EULA.

how to change IP adress of wireless controller 2504 . from GUI

In the existing setup, does WLC management & APs are on the same vlan ? If that is the case you may have not configured any of the below, as AP L3 broadcast reach WLC & in that way AP will learn about WLC.
If WLC & APs are on different vlan you may already use one of WLC discovery method listed below.
    1. DHCP Option 43
    2. DNS
    3. UDP broadcast forwarding
    4. Static configuration
When you change the WLC management IP address, AP need to know what is the new IP & you can modify the configuration of the method you used.

  • Wireless Controller 2504 with CAP1702i

I have installed and configure Cisco 2504 wireless controller. Also attached a AP(AIR-CAP1702i) in PoE port. But it's not showing in controller and also not showing SSID.
    Please suggest.

     Searching WLANs
You can search for specific WLANs in the list of up to 512 WLANs on the WLANs page. This feature is especially useful if your WLANs span multiple pages, preventing you from viewing them all at once.
To search for WLANs using the controller GUI, follow these steps"
Step 1 On the WLANs page, click Change Filter. The Search WLANs dialog box appears (see Figure 7-4).
Figure 7-4 Search WLANs Dialog Box
Step 2 Perform one of the following:
•To search for WLANs based on profile name, select the Profile Name check box and enter the desired profile name in the edit box.
•To search for WLANs based on SSID, select the SSID check box and enter the desired SSID in the edit box.
•To search for WLANs based on their status, select the Status check box and choose Enabled or Disabled from the drop-down list.
Step 3 Click Find. Only the WLANs that match your search criteria appear on the WLANs page, and the Current Filter field at the top of the page specifies the search criteria used to generate the list (for example, None, Profile Name:user1, SSID:test1, Status:disabled).
Note To clear any configured search criteria and display the entire list of WLANs, click Clear Filter.

  • Post-Authentication ACL in Wireless Controller question

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to setup an ACL for "after" people login to our wireless network to allow them access ONLY to web, not file servers or sql servers, etc.
I found how to configure an ACL, but it's pre-authentication and after people log in, they have access to everything.
    Any ideas?
    I'm using a Wireless Controller 2504
    Thanks.

I think I found it, there is a override ACL after login, I set this one up (see picture), but even though I can do a nslookup and I can ping any site, when I try to go online, I get nothing.
    What am I forgetting?

  • Unknown bundle type when updating Wireless Controller

Hey guys, I just downloaded the most current version of our WebAuth Bundle for our Wireless controller, a .zip file, but when I tried to update it I get:
Unknown bundle type. Valid bundle is a tar file.
I renamed it to .tar and instead I get a size mismatch, any ideas?
We have a Wireless Controller 2504.
    Thanks.

  • Manually add Access Point to 2504 Wireless Controller

We have a 2504 Wireless Controller and it works great!
We currently have 6 Access Points (Aironet 1252) connected.
We just added the sixth one a few weeks ago and with a properly configured and fully functioning Wireless Controller, it was super easy.
Now, I have been assigned to add another Access Point, but at a remote site.
The plan is to have up to three or more APs at this remote location and we want them to talk back to the Wireless Controller.
We have plenty of licences on our current Wireless Controller.
Do do not want to spend the funds for another Wireless Controller and more licenses.
    1. How does one manually add a Aironet 1252 to the 2504 Wireless Controller
    2. If the AP is on a different subnet than the Wireless Controller, how does one get it registered?
    3. The best for last: Can a Aironet 1252 talk to a 2504 Wireless Controller over a WAN link?
    If so, how?
    Thank you!

  • Can't add my new license on my cisco 2500 wireless controller

    hello,
i already have 25 license installed on my Cisco 2500 wireless controller.
but when i need add my new bundle license, i can't see him on my admin panel.
i following this steps for installing my new license :
1- i go on WLC panel
    2- management => software activation => commands
    3- i select "install license"
    4- i setting a correct path
5- when i clic on "install license", i can see two following message : "File transfer operation started" and "Installation Process Completed ". but when i go on "licenses" i can't see
    tanks for help

    Hi Serge,
In case you have another license installed on the controller with higher license than the one that you are installing, then the license installation will fail.
In case you want to install a new license with higher number of AP count, then you can install it, then save and reboot the controller.
Also I noticed when you install a new license and the summation of the previously installed license and the newly installed license is exceeding the max allowed AP count on the controller, then the installation will fail.
In such scenario, deactivate the current license by making the evaluation license priority to high, then after that install the new license and then change the priority to medium and make the evaluation license to low in addition to the previous license.

  • Newbie 2504 Wireless Controller Software Connection

    Hi Everyone,
I've just placed an order for a 2504 Wireless controller and access point. My supplier has asked what software load I require? Can someone explain to me what the options are? Is he just talking about licensing or is it something else?
    Thanks for your help.

Is he asking what software Version?
Most people who have an existing Cisco Wireless infrastructure have a specific version of code running (not neccessarily the latest) so when ordering additional controllers they might be given the option of what code to run (6.0 vs 7.0 for example).
If they are asking you what software version, I'd just have them put the latest 7.0 on it (7.0.220.0).
Or are you buying the AP 3600? If you are buying the AP 3600, you must go with the 7.1 code.

  • How do I configure the 2504 Wireless controller with AP?

I recently purchase the 2504 wireless controller and the 1602i AP. I was able to do the basic setup of the controller and can now access the web interface, but the AP is not being detected and I am unable to add it.

First of all: 1602 AP need minimum software version on WLC: 7.4.100.0
    paste this info:
    sh sysinfo from WLC
    sh version from AP.
Did you create a DHCP pool for APs to get IP ?
Try to to be keep AP and WLC on same subnet.

  • Question about 2504 Wireless Controller

    Hello,
I am tasked with configuring a 2504 wireless controller.  Is it possible to assign an SSID to an interface that has dynamic ap management enabled?
    Scenario:
    Location1:
    1) 10.0.0.0/24
    2)192.168.0.0/24 DMZ
    Location 2:
    1) 10.0.5.0
Both locations are routable using network 1 at each location.  However, I need to configure several access points and send them to location 2.  These access points will communicate with the controller at location 1 on network 1.  Two SSIDs will need to be on network 1 at location 1.  The other SSID will be on Network 2 at location 1.  This network is not routable.
    Thank You for your help.

So this is how you want this to be setup:
    Scenario:
Since location 1 is a flat network with only one subnet (internal) and one in the DMZ, you will configure WLC management/ap-manger port 1 on the 10.0.0.0/24 subnet.  You can then map your SSID#1 to the management interface.  Create a new dynaminc interface on the WLC and assign it an ip in the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet and place that on port 2.  Connect port 2 to the DMZ.  Now since you want everything to tunnel back to the WLC from location 2, you would leave the ap's in local mode.  Devices in location 2 associating on SSID #1 will obtain an ip address in location 1 and tunnel back to the WLC and traffic will egress out of port 1.  Devices that associate in location 1 or location 2 to SSID#2 (Guest) will tunnel back to the WLC in location 1 and traffic will egress out of port 2.
Since you want to tunnel traffic back to the WLC from location 2, you need to make sure your link has enough bandwidth or else the ap's will be bouncing.
If you setup the AP's in location 2 in h-reap mode, then you can place devices that associate to SSID #1 on the 10.0.50.0 subnet.  Devices that associate to SSID #2 at location 2 will tunnel back to the WLC and egress out of port 2.

  • Cisco 2504 wireless controller forget username and password

    hi,
i just want to ask how i can do password recovery with my wireless controller without erasing the configuration

When you first configure the controller and reboot, you will see an option to recover the password.  This is a one time option and if the controller has been up and rebooted a few times, then the only other way to change or add another user so you can login is with Prime Infrastructure and the use of snmp. You can download that and install that in ESXi 5.5 and get an eval license.  Or you can dig around and search for an smnp mib that will change it.  That piece I don't know about:)

  • 2504 wireless controller

They gave us a configured 2504 wireless controller to reconfigure.  I was able to login via the console and issue "show run-config" and I got the IP address for the management.  I connected an ethernet cable to laptop and gave it an IP in the same subnet but unable to ping it or access the controller via http or https.  I have also attempted via ssh and no luck.  Any idea how I can access the controller to be able to tftp a file from it.

Well you are able to access the wlc from the console which is a good thing. The issue might be the vlan assigned to that management interface. It might be tagged or it might be configured as a vlan id of '0' which is untagged. You need your switchport setup correctly in order to manage the wlc.

  • WAP321 & Aironet 2602e & 2504 Wireless Controller?

    Hello,
I am new to Cisco networking. I am currently in an environment with no Wireless Controller and the wifi uses two Cisco WAP321's.  The company wants to expand the wireless and has bought a Cisco 2504 Wireless Controller and a Cisco Aironet 2602e Controller-based WAP.  My question is once we start using the controller can it control the formerly controller-less WAP321's or will that have to be replaced with another Cisco Aironet 2602e?  Thank you.

My question is once we start using the controller can it control the formerly controller-less WAP321's
WLC 2504 will not support AP321s.  Talk to your authorized Cisco reseller and see if they will accept if you trade-in the AP321 for the AP 2602.
Make sure your AP 2602 have the correct regulatory domain.  If you are un-sure DO NOT open the boxes.
    For more information, go here:

Another thing, for AP 2600, your 2504 should have the minimum firmware of 7.2.110.X.  IF you don't have it, then talk to the authorized Cisco reseller who sold you the controller and kindly ask them (nicely) if they could download the correct firmware for you.

  • 2504 Wireless Controller scalability

    Hi,
In this data sheet I found two versions of the 2504 scalability: 50 and 75 AP. Wich one is correct?

    Luis

this is a change that takes affect with 7.4 per the release notes.
so 7.4 you can have up to 75 AP
7.3 or lower you can have up to 50.

  • Enterprise Wireless Mesh License needed for controller and AP's?

If I have a 2112 WLAN Controller and 7 1240AG AP's what licensing do I need to purchase to enable enterprise wireless mesh? Do I need to get the license for the controller (AIR-AP-LIC-M-12)? A license for each AP? Both? Thanks for any replies!

    Hi Andy,
You only require the Mesh license for the Controller not for the individual AP's :)
    Solution
The Cisco EWM license is required for wireless mesh deployments for the indoor access point platforms, including the Cisco Aironet 1130 and 1240 Series. For the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series, these licenses are not required. These EWM licenses are required for all the WLAN controllers when mesh indoor acess points are associated with the controller. Each WLAN controller has a corresponding EWM license. The license entitles the user to configure as many mesh indoor access points as the controller allows.
The license SKUs are as follows:
    • AIR-AP-LIC-RTU=, Cisco Advanced Feature License
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-6, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 6-AP Controller
    • ***AIR-AP-LIC-M-12, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 12-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-25, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 25-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-50, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 50-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-100, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 100-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-300, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 300-AP Controller
