  • Admin advice: table name changes, etc.

Our Discoverer system is still evolving and there are instances when a change, say to a table name that users have build workbooks on, is required. Is there a way to scan the workbooks and make this change for the users?

    Hi
No, this is not possible. You have to be extremely careful making changes to an EUL after workbooks exist. Mind you, just because you change a table name does not mean you need to change the folder name or identifier. You can change the table pointer without making any other changes, so long that is that the new table has the same data items and data types as the original. If it doesn't you could be in deep trouble.
As a note, you do need to make sure that you correctly maintain both the folder name and the folder identifier and not allow these to take generic names and defaults such as NEWFOLDER1 etc. This is bad EUL design and you will end up with issues in the future.
If you have a copy of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook, available from good bookstores or amazon.com via http://learndiscoverer.com/books/books.htm, take a look at chapters 17 and 18 which describe in detail how to get going in and maintain business areas. In particular, pages 640 and 641 cover folder management and discuss the impact of changing names and / or identifiers.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • How do I transfer old emails to new macbook

I'm trying to transfer my emails from my old macbook (os x 10.5.8, mail 3.6) to my new macbook (os x 10.8.2, mail 6.2 ).  I copied my mailboxes from the library on my old computer to the library on the new one.  The emails are there when I look them up using the Finder,  but they don't show up when I open mail. What am I missing?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need take care when connecting back to your new computer and an empty iTunes. When you get the a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Changing to manual update will also enable your iPod for disk use and you need this option on to use Yamipod. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Best way to transfer old Macbook to new Macbook, both with two hard drives?

I am waiting for the new Macbook Pro's to come out, and I'm planning to upgrade my original 13in MBP. When I bought that MBP, I simply used Time Machine to copy my old Macbook to the new one. It work well.
But I've since replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive that houses the application and OS, plus some working files (photos), and I removed the optical drive and installed a large harddrive where I keep the user files.
I'm planning to order the new Macbook Pro with a larger SSD, and then replace the optical drive with a bigger hard drive, probably the one I currently have in my MBP.
What will be the best practice to transfer everything over. I want to keep most of what was on my old machine, inlcuding preferences, etc — but I also don't want years and years of junk transfered over. I've gone from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, and so probably some junk from there as well, and I'm hoping that Mavericks will come with the new MBP.
    Thanks for the help!

    Just one comment on this:
‘If I have, say, an older version of iPhoto but a newer version of one on my new Macbook Pro, will it still transfer photos no problem?’
the problems are ALWAYS in the reverse way, when you have the newest (or a newer) version of a given app, and wish to transfer its library to an older version.
Otherwise, see the link to Pondini.
I have been using Martin Jahn’s iBackup, with which I have become accustomed and works fine. It also makes daily backups. Its advantage over other apps is that you may add whatever you wish to save, beside its default settings (which you may delete or cancel, of course, even if not recommended); it also has a friendly interface and easily customizable. Of course, this is a personal view, you may try other methods as well, or other backup apps. All are good if you are satisfied and correspond to your needs.

  • Computer crashed, can't transfer old songs to new harddrive. Help?

My old Dell w/ Windows XP crashed and Dell sent me a new harddrive that I installed on my computer. All my songs are on my IPOD Nano (3rd Gen) and I want to transfer the music from my Nano to the computer with the new harddrive, but when I hook up the Nano to the computer I only see a faded image of the songs and I cannot download them to the computer or play them from my computer. How do I get the songs on the Nano onto my new harddrive? All the songs were either previously purchased through the I-Tunes store or downloaded off my old CD's, there were no other sources for my music.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Al

  • How to transfer old purchases to new computer?

We had a computer with a lot of downloaded movies, albums, singles, etc. and that computer is no longer working so we got a new one and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get my purchase history onto my new computer without rebuying anything.

Restore it from a backup, put the old computer's hard drive into an enclosure and copy the files off, use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes if they're on an iPod or similar Apple device, or click here and ask.

  • How do I purchase/download/transfer old songs to new computer and then purchase new songs and view/edit items from library?

I have a nano ipod, I no longer have the email I used to purchase and download all songs I want to purchase new songs from a new laptop with a gmail address, how can I do this? I am not sure what to do when it asks me if I want transfer and erase? I do not want to lose any itunes library of songs already purchased on old computer and old email address.
    Thanks Gina

You can transfer the older purchases from your Nano to your new PC by choosing File -> Transfer purchases with the nano plugged in and appearing in iTunes.   You'll need to authorize your account with the older Apple ID and credentials.

    No.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use this to put everything back.
The iphone is not a backup or storage device.
The music sync is one way. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

  • How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?

(Well, it seems my title got truncated; originally it read: How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?)
I've recently gotten an iPad Air to replace my previous iPad 2. I have a bunch of books and PDFs in iBooks on the old iPad, and want to transfer them to the new iPad.
A search of Apple Support informs me that anything I've purchased from iBooks can be downloaded at any time to any of my devices (works like Amazon's Kindle system, apparently), but nearly all the content I have in iBooks on the iPad I've downloaded from other sources, so it won't be in my iBooks Store account (I might have bought one book there).
I've also seen several instructions on how to copy all my data from the old iPad to the new via Backup & Restore, but that seems to require restoring the new iPad to factory setup, which would delete everything I have on it now – including a bunch more books I've gotten since I started using the new iPad. And I don't want to copy everything, only the books/PDFs (the new iPad has everything I want, except for the books).
Since there seems to be no way to transfer files directly from one iPad to the other, it seems it must be done via iTunes on my MacBook Pro (and I want to copy all the books/PDFs to the computer anyway). So I connected the iPad 2 to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) and opened iTunes (11.3.1). Then clicked on the iPad's name in the sidebar to the left, and on Books below it. I see a list of the books on the iPad. I check the little boxes by all their names to select them (not sure if that's necessary, but it seems like a good idea), then click on the Sync button at the lower right, to the right of the bar at the bottom of the window with colored bands showing memory usage on the iPad. A message appears saying "The app 'iBooks' was not installed on the iPad '[name]' because the app could not be found."
But iBooks is already on the iPad; I have it open and see the list of books in it, which matches the list shown in iTunes. The message has a "More Information" button; I click that and it opens an Apple Support article titled "iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open": "Learn what to do if you see one of these issues with an app you downloaded from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: The app unexpectedly quits; The app stops responding; You can’t open the app." But none of these apply; the iBooks app is on the iPad, and works fine there.
The article suggests: (1) Restart the App. I've done that, no help. (2) Restart your device. Done that, no help. (3) Update your device software and your apps. The iPad is running iOS 6.1.3, iBooks 3.1.3; not the latest versions, no, but I'd rather not update it to newer, bigger, more power-hungry versions if I don't have to. Is it that iTunes 11 doesn't work with iOS 6? I haven't seen this stated anywhere.
So instead I click the OK button on the message, but nothing further happens, so far as I can tell: None of the books/PDFs on the iPad (about 380MB) appear in iBooks on the MacBook Pro.
I click on "Books" in the row of words across the top of the iTunes window, and it shows me the single PDF presently in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I click the box by "Sync Books", and a message appears: "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?" Well, no, that's exactly what I DON'T want to do. I don't want to erase the 380MB of books and PDFs on the iPad and replace them with the single PDF now in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I want to copy the books from the iPad 2 to iTunes, so I can copy them back to the new iPad Air (if, God willing, I can figure out how to do that without erasing the books now on the iPad Air).
I've been working with Macintosh computers for over 26 years. It's always been a fairly simple process to copy files from one computer to another. I don't want to "sync" all the data (address book, email, God knows what else) on the iPad with the corresponding information on the MacBook Pro – especially if that will erase everything on the iPad (which has information not on the MacBook Pro, e.g. 380MB of books). I just want to copy the books and PDFs in iBooks from the old iPad to the MacBook Pro, then to the new iPad, adding them to the books on the new iPad, so I don't lose anything.
Can anybody give me a clue?

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.
