Transfer organizer from PE3/XP to PE7/Vista

I was running PE3 on XP for years and wish to move all the photos in the Organizer, including those edited and tagged and collapsed into version sets, to a new computer using PE7 on Vista. I archived my PE3 photos on five DVD's and when I load one of those DVD's on my PE7/Vista machine and from File in the Organizer try to "get" the photos from DVD, I receive the response, "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this catalog."
Amazing! Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to transfer the organizer with edited version sets and tags in tact from one system using PE3/XP to another using PE7/Vista?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, the restore just doesn't seem to want to work on your catalog.  A couple of alternative suggestions to work around this:
1. It sounds like, before you deleted MyCatalog, that the catalog file proper (with all your tags, dates, etc.) had gotten restored, that the photos from 4 out of 5 of the disks had been restored, and that all the other photos showed up properly in the Organizer?  If that's so, you could try this to get the photos from the last disk into your catalog:
a. Go through the same process again to restore 4 of the 5 disks.  At this point in PSE, the photos from the last disk should be marked as "missing" in the Organizer (with a yellow question mark icon on them).
b. Use Windows Explorer to copy the photos from the last disk to some folder on your C drive.
c. Then use File > Reconnect > All Missing to reconnect the missing photos in your catalog with their location on the C drive. where you just placed them.   See this FAQ for how to reconnect lots of photos quickly:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Quickly_reconnecting_la rge
2. If you have an external hard drive, you could do the move manually:
a. On the XP machine, use Windows Explorer to copy the folder heirarchy(s) containing all your photos to the external hard drive.
b. On the XP machine, find the location of your catalog folder by starting PSE Organizer and doing Help > System Info.   The catalog folder will contain a file called "catalog.pse7db".
c. Using Windows Explorer, copy the catalog folder to the external hard drive.
d. Connect the external drive to the Vista machine.
e. On the Vista machine, use Windows Explorer to copy the folder heirarchy(s) containing your photos (step a) from the external drive to your Pictures folder.
f. Use Windows Explorer to copy the catalog folder from the external drive
g. Copy the catalog folder (step c) from the external drive to  C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\.
h. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the catalog folder you copied in step g, find the file "catalog.pse7db", and double-click it.  That will open the catalog in PSE 7.  All of the photos in the Organizer will be marked "missing" (yellow question mark).
i. Use FIle > Reconnect > All Missing to reconnec the catalog with the actual locations of the photos that you copied in step e.  See the FAQ above for how to make the reconnect command go faster.

I also receive e mails that have excel (xls) files attached and I am unable to open them, Can anyone advise? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

How do you exactly mean: transferring files? Would you like to copy them to the machine with Vista?
And regarding the Excel (*.xls) files, you need Microsoft Excel which is in the Microsoft Office Package. That means if you have no Microsoft Office for Vista then you will need to purchase one to open and edit Excel files.

  • Transfer files from ipod touch to a PC with windows Vista

How do I transfer files from my ipod touch to my brand laptop with windows vista?

Hello and Welcome to  Discussions Forum.
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

  • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from Windows Vista or Windows XP

I'm running a English Windows Vista Ultimate and just bought a
ENGLISH Windows 8.1. I've downloaded the WET for Windows vista and tried to complete the second portion of the transfer by specifying the saved .MIG file WET created. Then I got the error message: "Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer
files from Windows Vista or Windows XP".
The truth is, Microsoft was too busy integrating special effects to it's operating system and claimed it as fully polished instead of making sure built-in tools were worth using.
Another harsh reality is that THERE IS NO WAY TO TRANSFER a file from Windows Vista to Windows 8. That's because engineers didn't even bother to make that possibility happen. Just Google: "Transfer from windows vista to windows 8" and you'll see
there are no relevant Microsoft web page about this.
Worse, Microsoft is giving excuses. To solve this issues, they came with a toolbox of fake scenarios in order to confuse clients even further, while they know damn well the Windows Easy Transfer is NOT EASY and certainly in multiple cases
DOES NOT TRANSFER jack to begin with.

    I somewhat agree with you.
Trying to transfer from 7 to 8.1 and although it looks like the "7" side of the equation is working, the "8" side isn't.
"7" is trying to connect to "8" but "8.1" is being just plain stupid.
Not even sure why the MIG file step is even necessary if all I want to do is transfer one file between two machines.  Said file is really BIG, or i'd just use my network, and the "8.1" rig doesn't have a dvd reader...
Per the MIG step... my file again, is big... I'd need to "mig" this file just to send it? Can't even get to the step where I'd mig-it and if i did, how long would that take?
So this is what progress is all about... geez... gimmie a NULL MODEM CABLE !!!

How do I transfer songs from my daughters itunes library onto my ipod?  We both have itunes libraries on a single computer running Windows Vista

Your question has probaby been answered already because it was posted a month ago but anyways what you do is you plug your phone into your computer. Next you want to open iTunes and click on File. Then you go down to "Transfer Purchases from *your name* iPhone". Then just wait for it to sync and you should be good.

  • Trying to transfer purchases from my 3gs onto a new PC (Vista).  Keep getting the message "Waiting for changes to be applied".  HELP!

Using the latest version of iTunes and iOS5 on my iPhone.  Backup of the iphone seems to work fine.  My old PC died and I want to transfer my apps to my new PC.  But when I start Transfer purchases from my iPhone, it just keeps giving the message "Waiting for changes to be applied" and doesn't do anything.  I'm getting worried as I have an iPhone 4s coming and I want to move my 3gs stuff over to my new phone.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back when I switched computers and migrated.  Here's what worked on my iMac, so maybe it'll work on your iPad, too.  Go to User(your home folder)/Music.  Select/highlight your "Music" folder.  Then do Command-I ("Get Info" from the File menu), click on the padlock icon in the lower right of the new window.  Enter your user password.  Click on your username just above the now-open padlock.  Select "Read & Write" if it's on "Read Only," "Write Only," or "No Access."  Now having your user account with "Read & Write" privileges (it may have been this way already; still do this next step), click on the gear on the bottom-center of that window.  Click on "Apply to all enclosed items."  When the pop-up says "Are you sure?" (or the equivalent), say "yes."  This will grant access privileges to your user account for all the music files inside your music folder--all your iTunes stuff included).  Then you should be good to go.

  • How can I transfer videos from windows pc to an iPad 2

I have iTunes on my Windows Vista PC and try several ways to transfer videos from the PC to the iPad 2 but it has been imposible, all videos have been converted to play on iPad or iPhone. What I need to do to accomplish the task that I need?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

how do you transfer playlists from on computer to a new one, library has already been transfered

    - Why not just copy the iTunes computer folder to the new computer?
    - You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can transfer non-iTunes purchased music by using one of the third-party programs discussed in ths previous discussion:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Unless you can move/copy the iPod backup file from your old computer to the new one and restore from backup, you will have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod and thus loose all app date. The iPod backup file is located:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • How can I transfer iTunes from Desktop PC to Laptop?

I have just brought a laptop and I would like to transfer my iTunes over from my desktop PC to my Laptop, does anyone now if this is possible and easy to do? Could I just download itunes from the internet on my Laptop or is it easier and better to transfer it all from my PC. My Laptop is Vista and my PC is running XP. Thank you.

The following article tells you how to do the transfer using an iPod. But the method is essentially the same whatever physical vehicle you use to copy files across. An external disk drive is good.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Be aware that when you transfer files from XP to Vista, you may run into permission issues as the the method involves copying the iTunes folder created on another computer to a Vista PC and vista is fussy about permissions. You need to be sure that your account on the vista PC has full control.
