Transfer pc dvd

I need to store the DVD's I made on PC  for safekeeping but I use an iMAC Lion now and it will not let me save the DVD's.  Apple tech suggested I put my DVD's onto my PC laptop and its backup then use this backup to bring into iMAC.  He also suggested doing this all with the universal Quicktime.
I do not know what version of Quicktime to get for my PC or even how to get use it to save the DVD onto the PC backup.  Seems Quicktime must be able to read my DVD's made from 1997-now and various softwares in which I used to make the DVD's (older ones were professional and newer ones I used MovieMaker)
Can some help this non-tech person please.
iwantmypcback

As of 11/11/2012 I found HandBrake and info from a haker site to be sure I brought in the correct stuff (.VLC and .DLL) to use Handbrake on my PC and iMAC.  The iMAC it still does not rip my DVD's but on my PC it worked.  So, I ripped a DVD movie  onto my PC, downloaded it onto its external harddrive and then brought the movie in the iMAC which used the .VLC
Now I have  plan of attack but need one more piece of information.  What Preset on HandBrake do I use to make the movie format condusive to a large screen TV.   Note: Most movies I made originally were formated16 x 9 aspect Ratio and the new ones are for HD but had to compress them to get them on the DVD.
Also, is the "universal" preset something that makes the movie compatible with PC, iMAC, TV...?

Actually, as the owner of the DVD, you are permitted to make one copy.  You can use Handbrake to make an iPad compatible version of the DVD movie, then move it into the Videos section of iTunes.  From there, you can sync it with your iPad.

  • How do I transfer my DVD into Ipod. Please mention program and the way to d

Ipod 80 GB there is lots of room for my DVD's but when I try to draw the video and audio file from the DVD to itunes, as described in the Itunes maual, it does not work. I have Shrink 3.2 on my computer and when I want to copy a DVD I use it. I think it has something to do with converting the DVD into another type.
But how. I have called the help disk, but the man did not want to help me??
      Windows XP

i was misled by the computer store to buy an "offfical" IPOD DVD converter program for my existing DVD library - it's not able to read anything copyrighted or not... so upsetting - now i finally have the chance to visit apple.com and seeing all the problems that everyone is having with this "media" deivice, i'm begining to wonder if a visit back to the computer store is needed to just return the IPOD and end the nightmare... it's easier to just travel w/ my 13"laptop then to be transfering, converting, buying accessories & having to charge the dumb thing every few songs!
Apple should have thought of a setting or programing issue that when it detects the copyright, it would allow you to only transfer the DVD movie onto the IPOD without nessisarlily downloading or ripping the DVD onto the computer. If you already have the disk, why would you really need to make another copy on the computer?
Honestly, i don't mind having to buy new movies over their site but to have an existing DVD collection not avalible to me, some of which they don't even sell anymore (but i still love to watch), is pushing me over the edge and back to the store!

  • Transfer my dvd collection to my iMac

    Hi all,
I'm planing to buy Apple TV and I was wondering how I could transfer my dvd collection to my iMac and use it as a media hub.
    Many thanks,
    Steve.

Expanding on what RK said, sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected video DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries), so we're not allowed to discuss it here.   Some DVDs and Blu-Ray movies come with a "digital copy" that allows you to download a copy of the movie for use on computers and portable devices. You might see if any of the DVDs you have come with such a feature. Walmart/Vudu also has a service that basicially gives you a digital copy of a DVD you already own, though they would not play on an Apple TV, to the best of my knowledge. See:
    http://www.vudu.com/disc_to_digital.html
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. Once converted, you just drag the movie into the iTunes window on your computer.
    Regards.

Yes I held them down till the apple logo appears, then spinning wheel and repeated boot up process. I only knew it was going round in circles because the charging sound kept repeating every so many seconds.
I am downloading iOS.5.0.1 now to do a complete factory restore. I hope this works. I have been looking online for hours for fixes and I have very little batter on it as its been spinning for hours now.
Why do things like this happen? I am sat there watching tv and one minute the settings folder is there then its not! How does that happen? It just disappear? I hadn't moved it to another folder or deleted it, it just.... went!

  • Transfer  mini-dvd's i have to my macbook pro.

i have A LOT of mini-dvd videos (home movies) that i would like to transfer to my Macbook Pro.  Unfortunately, my camcorder is a Sony DVD92 and does not have a cord that will connect to my laptop to transfer the content to I-Movie.  I thought about using a DVD player directly and I have a Dazzle converter that goes into my USB port but nothing happens. Can anyone please help?  Is there an Apple Dazzle converter maybe?

Well DON'T stick those mini-DVD's into the slot loading Superdrive.
I have a Dazzle converter that goes into my USB port but nothing happens.
You'll have to talk to the developer of that device, ask for software for a Mac, or if a PC only, borrow/buy one.
Be good if it can transfer to a standard USB drive (FAT32)
FAT32 (MS-DOS) has a 4GB file size limit though, so if you do use a external drive and have any video files larger than 4GB then format it exFAT on the Windows PC.
If the PC is a Windows XP machine, there is a free exFAT download from Microsoft. Vista and Win 7 no need.
Mac's can read/write Windows FAT32 (MS-DOS) and exFAT formats, but not NTFS, so don't format it that way unless you want to spend money.
    Good Luck

    Hi
Same in iMovie as in FinalCut.
    I prefere -
    • Roxio Toast™ to back-convert to streamingDV - or -
    • HandBrake - or -
    • raw way - DVD-player to a miniDV tape Camera and just copy.
    *DVD back for futhur editing*
    A. don't put a mini-DVD into Your Mac unless it’s a trayloaded DVD burner/reader
    B. iMovie’08 prob. 09 can import from DVD (homemade without copyprotection)
    C. I prefere one of these two ways
    • Copy to miniDV tape from set-top DVD-player --> Camera -or-
    • Roxio Toast™ - Can back convert to streamingDV for iMovie or FinalCut
    D. Read what Karsten collected.

    • Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    • Cinematize >60$
    • Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    • Toast 6/7/8/9/10 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    • connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
    • Drop2DV (free) a free tool claiming to convert DVDs into dv-stream...
    • Use iSquint for your conversions . www.iSquint.org

  • If I transfer to DVD and Delete from iPhoto...

There are a lot of pictures I'd like to delete from iPhoto. If I transfer them to a DVD or CD, can I transfer them back to iPhoto at a later date...especially if I delete them from iPhoto after they're burned to CD/DVD?
I guess I'd like to know if I can store them on disk rather than in iPhoto/my hard drive?
Is this possible, and if so, is there anyone out there that can help me out?

    Justinbear56:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes. There's two ways you can do that.
    The first is:
1 - select the photos you want to backup to the HD and put in an album. (Easier to assemble and remove later).
2 - select the album and use the Share->Burn menu option.
This will create a CD that, when mounted in the optical drive with iPhoto running, will show up in the Source pane and will allow the files to be viewed and copied back to the library if needed for any use.
3 - delete the photos in the album by selecting all and typing Option+Delete and then emptying iPhoto's trash.
The second way will allow you to still see the photos via thumbnail only but remove the full sized files from your HD. It is:
1 - assemble the photos you want to remove into an album. If the photos are grouped by rolls then just use the rolls and don't create an album.
2 - Select the album/roll(s) and, using the File->Export->File Export menu option export them to a folder on the Desktop.
3 - insert a blank CD/DVD in the drive. When it mounts on the desktop give it an appropriate title.
4 - Drag the folder you created on the desktop into the disk to copy the files and their containing folder to the disk and burn the disk.
5 - Go into iPhoto's Advanced Preference pane and deselect the option to copy files into the library when importing.
6 - mount the newly burned disk on the desktop and drag the folder on the disk into the open iPhoto window. This will copy alias files of each photo on the disk and create thumbnail versions in the Data folder.
You can either delete those original files from the library first or allow iPhoto to import duplicates and then delete the original files.
7 - Go back to the iPhoto Advanced Preferences and reselect the option to copy files into the library.
Now you can view those files in thumbnail version up to but not quite the full size via the slider. You will not be able to move them or use them in albums, books, etc. But you will be able to view them. If you put the disk back in the drive and mount it, then you will be able to edit them (the edited version will be stored in the library and removed if you do a revert to original) and use them normally. It probably would be a wise thing to place those photos in an Album and name it for the disk that they are on for each retrieval.
I've creates several Tutorials on the use of alias based iPhoto libraries that can give you an idea of what can be done.

  • Transfer a DVD NTSC to PAL

hello How can i transfer a NTSC DVD with menu to PAL? .... Thanks

You are missing the point of Skalicki's post.
I will repeat it for you.
*NTSC DVD disks will just work on PAL playback devices.*
There is no need to convert your disc to anything else.

  • Transfer a DVD to my ipad

What is the easiest way to take a DVD and transfer it to my ipad2? I did a google search and downloaded a free app and it did absolutely nothing...

If you're converting those christmas movies to show on your iPad, Handbrake is good. mpegstreamclip also works, as does Format Factory (which is pc only)
    all 3 programs are freeware
If it's a commercial DVD, beyond this info you need to google elsewhere because we cannot tell you how to break the encryption.

  • Transfer 3 DVD to 1 DVD

I have three DVD's (friend's footage transferred several years ago) that I want to transfer to 1 DVD.
The total footage is 2hrs and 25 mins.
Can I use FCE4 to import the footage from DVD (Video and Audio Files) or would something like Toast 10 help instead?
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

You can use MPEG Streamclip (plus the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component if you do not already have it on your Mac) to convert the DVD video to QuickTime DV (or QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec) so you can edit them together in FCE4.
Toast 10 has a feature that enables you to make a compilation DVD from multiple source DVDs. It also has some limited editing capability (to extract and trim scenes from a DVD, not actual editing as you could do in FCE4).
Whether or not you can fit a 2:25 video on a single-layer DVD is another matter. Normally you are limited to about 2 hours on a single-layer DVD. If your Mac can burn dual-layer DVD media (most Macs up to around 4-5 years old can) then you can put up to 4 hours on a dual-layer DVD.

  • How exactly do I transfer my dvds to my ipod using quick time pro 7?

I keep seeing how to transfer them using the videora software, but can I transfer them using quick time pro 7? if so, where can I geta step by step tutorial on it?

ok. In the link you gave me, it says if I have not
already recorded my movies then to click on a link it
has there, but it's only for mac users, I have pc. do
I need to record my movie if im using a pc before I
can transfer the movie? if so, how do I, since that
link if for mac users only
That link is talking about getting the video off a digital video camera. You want to get it from a DVD and we've already established that you can't do that with Quicktime Pro.
Getting video off a camera using Windows would be specific to your camera and the software you use to do it.
