Transfer playlist to new ipod

I have just replaced my ipod mini with a new one following battery problems. My playlist won't transfer to the new ipod mini. Can anyone tell me what I can do about this as I have a new ipod with no songs on it? Many thanks to any one who can help

My new ipod mini does not seem to recognise anything. When I bought my original ipod I had no trouble establishing a play list but with this one I can't seem to get it recognised by the computer. Therefore I can't get anything onto the ipod to play. Maybe I am missing part of the process and I know on another apple site it dpes say that you cannot transfer a playlist from one ipod to another! Is this also correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated by this novice!

It needs to go through iTunes.  But there is no way to transfer songs from iPod to iTunes library (except for music you purchased from iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to your iTunes library.  You can then sync your iPhone to the iTunes library.
Alternately, if you sign up for the iTunes Match service, your iTunes music library on your computer will become available from iCloud.  You can set your new iPhone (assuming you bought a "new" iPhone) to sync from iCloud, instead of from your computer's iTunes.  All of your music will be available wirelessly, wherever you have an Internet connection.

  • How do I transfer the music content on my old IPOD (click wheel) to Itunes in my new computer for subsequent transfer to a new IPOD

How do I transfer music on my old IPOD( click wheel) to Itunes on my new computer(Windows 8) for further transfer to a new IPOD nano

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

You can try putting it into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, you can see if the computer will recognize it when connected, either in iTunes or by the system.
NOTE:  You can also try putting it into Disk Mode WHILE it is already connected to the computer.
If the iPod is recognized, you may be able to use one of the third-party methods or utilities to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  You can do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer" to get some links (add "mac" to the search if your computer is a Mac).
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library, then sync it to the new iPod.

I also met this issue a few days ago and I finally find out how to transfer music from iPod to computer:
    1. Plug your iPod in and wait for the computer to recognize it.
    2. Open up 'My Computer' and under 'Devices With Removable Storage', double click and open apple iPod.
    3. Click on 'Tools' at the top of the window and drag down to 'Folder Options'.
    4. Under the 'View' tab, find the subfolder called 'Hidden files and folders'.
    5. Select the option 'Show hidden files and folders'.
    6. Click 'OK'.

Have you not got a backup of your content on, for example, external drives ? If not then you could have a look to see if any of the utilities mentioned in this old post still exist and work : https://discussions.apple.com/message/11014893?messageID=11014893#11014893

  • HT1473 How do you transfer playlists from an ipod to iplayer?

HT1473 is fine for adding things to the ipod from itunes, but I need to move playlists curretly stored on my ipod to itunes on a new computer.

    - Why not just copy the iTunes computer folder to the new computer?
    - You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can transfer non-iTunes purchased music by using one of the third-party programs discussed in ths previous discussion:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Unless you can move/copy the iPod backup file from your old computer to the new one and restore from backup, you will have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod and thus loose all app date. The iPod backup file is located:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Transfering Old Playlists to New IPod

The Old Ipod fell from my bag... and it was not turned in to lost and found.. go figure. A great time to purchase the big 60 w/vido.. but I want to keep all my old playlist. Before I download the new software on my computer, I was wondering if U can tell me if my wish can come true

    Hello rontar,
If your old playlists still exist in iTunes on your computer, when you connect your new iPod it will automatically sync with the library and it will be identical to what you had before.
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • I ONLY want my music to transfer to my new iPod touch

I just bought an iPod touch 5 gen and I have my iPod touch 4 gen backed up to iCloud. I only want to transfer my music to my new iPod. I don't want my apps pictures etc transferred, how do i do this? I also didn't buy my music, so does that matter?

iCloud backup only include iTunes purchases.
Also. the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included any synced media like apps and music.
The only way is to sync non-iTunes purchased music from your iTunes library.

  • Transfer playlists from my ipod classic to my computer

When I bought a new computer my library got transferred but not my playlists. I cannot drag or populate a new playlist on my computer from the playlist on my ipod. How can I do this?

    Hello Ed Greenberg,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
[YamiPod|http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home> may be able to get the job done for you. One of it's listed features is the ability to export playlists from your iPod. Worth a shot at least.
This page talks about how to go about exporting the playlist.

  • Reinstalled Operating System - transfer playlists, etc from ipod to PC?

I've recently reverted back from Vista to XP and in the process wiped out my library, playlists, etc. Thankfully all my tunes were on my external, but all the data including playlists are gone. Is there a way to transfer the playlists from my ipod to my newly installed itunes folder/library? I'd hate to lose all i've put together.
    p.s. windows vista __s!

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • I have the old ipod touch without the camera and i received a new one with camera as a gift how do I transfer eveything to new ipod from old?

I have the old ipod touch(without camera) and I received the new one (with camera) as a gift. How do I transfer everything from old one to new one?

Make one final USB sync with the old iPod. The sync includes a backup. Then connect the new iPod to the same computer/iTunes library and restore from the backup of the old iPOd. All the synced media like apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media is not included in the backup that iTunes makes. For how to restore see:
