Transfer playlists between libraries

I have 3 separate iTunes libraries on my Macbook for 3 different persons iPods. Is there any way to transfer playlists of songs between the different libraries?

If all the libries have the same media files with the same artist names, album, song titles, etc. then you can go to ...
File -> Library -> Export Playlist...
Pick XML from the pull down for format. Oh forgot to mention first start in the playlist you want to export before you go to the above.
once the playlist is exported, you can then do the same thing on the other library except you pick IMPORT Playlist... and pick that file. If the same tracks exist on that library, the playlist will be recreated on that library.
note: this only recreates normal playlists or normal (akak "dumb") versions of the Smart Playlists.

  • Transfering playlists between libraries

Is there a way to transfer ONLY the playlist information between libraries? I recently created a new iTunes library on an external drive, and then consolidated all of the music I had scattered in various libraries and other locations on this external drive. But I made the common mistake of only transferring the music from my original main library, so my old playlist information is stranded back in that original library on my PowerBook. Meanwhile, the new consolidated library on the external hard drive is now quite different and much larger than the original library. How do I retrieve the playlists without otherwise altering the new library? Thanks for helping!
(P.S. Is there any good resource or FAQ database devoted to managing multiple iTunes libraries? It seems like a dark art without a decent road map, and it's incredibly easy to get confused and tangled up about where library data and actual music/movie files are located....)

File -> Import and select the iTunes library.xml on the internal.
This will import the playlists. It may duplicate somne you already have, such as *Recently added*, but you can simply delete them.

  • Can you help me transfer music between libraries on my home network?

I am able to see libraries on different machines on my home network but cannot share music files. 'Help' says to use the Show menu at the bottom of the iTunes window, choose 'items not in my library'......
I do not see the Show menu.

First make sure you have Home Sharing turned on. This won't work if you only have Library Sharing turned on. Read my post in the thread I've linked to below to learn the difference between Home Sharing, Library Sharing and how to enable them.

Now, once you've enabled Home Sharing go to my post in the link I've posted below. Find the one with the screenshot. It will show you the different parts of a window so you how to import media from another computer using Home Sharing. Notice the Show menu in the screenshot.

  • How can i transfer playlists between 2 different ipods?

I have two iPod Nano (3 gen). One of them my daughter happened to drop into a pool so the screen stopped working.
Is there anyway to "copy" a  playlist from the "broken" iPod to the other fully functional iPod?
I have tried to use the "Export playlist" / "Import Playlist" option but that dosent work at all? Or is itunes so (sorry) "Stupid" made that we have to make new playlist on the fully functional iPod and ad song after song, it will take hours to make the lists identical, there must be som easier way?
    Please help!

Both iPod is synced recently with the same library.
When i try to Export the playlists from my doughter's iPod the exported files are empty no matter what file type I choose. So when i import the file the playlist are being added to my iTunes library but with no song in it at all..

  • OSB gives confusing volume information when moving tapes between libraries

    Hi,
We have an SL500 tape library as our main backup device. We also added an SL24 to the OSB domain for testing prior to installation elsewhere. We have an RMAN-FULL-MF media family, which at some point in the past had unexpired media in both libraries.
As part of the process of decommissioning the SL24 prior to shipment, I unloaded the volumes from the SL24 and imported them into the SL500. However, I may not have run the necessary OSB commands, such that OSB has up-to-date information as to where the physical media is located.
Our DBA has tried to delete some old database backups, and this has failed because the backup pieces cannot be found. However, we have a volume in the SL500, RMAN-FULL-MF-000007 which appear to contains the backup pieces (see 'lspiece' output below), but OSB thinks the volume is still in the SL24.
When I do an inventory of the SL500 I get:
    lsvol -L SL500

This appears to indicate that OSB still thinks the volume is in the SL24, which has now been removed from the domain.
Does anyone know what I can do to get OSB to recognise that the volume is now in the SL500? Do I need to run the 'obtar' command with the -G option to re-catalogue the tape?
Ultimately I like to see some documentation on how to transfer tapes between libraries in the same domain, and also between domains, with specifc commands to run.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Not quite as straightforward as you suggest, but we have made progress.
The volume has to have a rotation policy before the 'chvol' command will run, which seems logical. So I created a policy for movement of tapes between the SL24 and SL500, and created and ran the media movement job. However, I then tried to remove the rotation policy, but could not because it was associated with the volume just moved.
    I then tried a 'chvol -R "" RMAN-FULL-MF-000007' which returned an error:
"Error: can't relocate volume RMAN-FULL-MF-000007, volume has no rotation policy"
Which was the effect I wanted really - the removal of the association of the volume with the policy. I was then able to remove the rotation policy.
Also, 'lsvol -f RMAN-FULL-MF' still shows this volume listed twice.
The upshot of all this is that OSB now appears to show the volume in the right location and our DBA was able to delete the obsolete backups via RMAN.

I was trying to create a playlist to add to a second ipod I have and save my library of my other ipod and hopefully transfer between the two or organize additional playlist between the two.  What I did was erase both and and back at point zero. lost everything.  Tried to follow directions but I'm too stupid. Used the 'New play list" wrong i think and I know where original files are but no directions as to get it back.  Its supposed to be a simple function of ipod bet not so!

An iTunes playlist can only contain songs that are in the same iTunes library as the playlist.  There is neither a manual nor a scripted way to create an iTunes playlist that contains songs that are not in the library.
So, to do what you want, you would need to create a single consolidated library with all the music, and then create playlists off of that.  Since your current drive is "chock a block full," the best way to do this will be to spend $50-$100 and get an external hard drive for iTunes.

  • How can I transfer playlists from my Iphone to my Computer

So I recently got a new computer and I just installed Itunes on it.
My old computer broke and so I lost the playlists in it, but I still have all my playlists and songs on my Iphone 4.
I searched up how to transfer playlists to my new computer and I found that doing a Back Up would work, so I backed up my Iphone to my new itunes and all the playlists with songs are on it.
Everything seemed fine untill i realized that I cant do anything with my music apart from playing it on my computer.
The songs play but i cant even drag them out to my desktop or anything.
Is there anything I could do to move the songs and copy them onto a file on my desktop?
Please answer asap, im frustrated and cant seem to find a solution.
    Thank You

Not really. Frankly you should always keep at least two copies of your iTunes libraries on separate drives. Your iPhone could be too easily lost, stolen, damaged, or corrupted. Some of the paid transfer software does make it relatively easy to copy off the media but there are free solutions in that list too, the last three entries in particular.

  • How do I  sync a playlist between 2 computers

I have two Macs running the latest Lion and iTunes, and I have the same iTunes Account on both machines.
On the first machine, I have a play list that I need to get to the second machine.  I do not want to copy all the music over, just the songs that do not exist on the second machine.   I do not want duplicate songs in the library.  And I need the playlist itself moved along with the music.  How can I do this?
    Kevin

What do you mean by "Sync".
The general term means when two Libraries (A and B) are compared and files in Library A are copied to Library B, while files in Library B are also copied to Library A so that both Libraries are identical.
This is bi-directional copying and you cannot do this automatically with iPhoto. No Syncing software is capable of parsing the iPhoto Library in this manner. One or both of your Libraries will be damaged if you try this.
You can have uni-directional copying - files in Library A are copied to Library B - this is essentially backing up. Obviously you can also copy from Library B to Library A.
The nearest you can get to syncing is to use iPhoto Library Manager  to move files/Albums/Events plus associated metadata between Libraries. This process cannot be automated.
Putting the Library on an external is easy:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Create a shared playlist between iTunes accounts?

Can you create a shared playlist between 2 iTunes accounts? It would be easier if I could copy songs from one account to the other. However, when I am on the MBP and open the shared account on the iMac, I can see and play the iMac music from the MBP, but I can't seem to be able to transfer songs.

  • Ways to keep correct dates when transferring between libraries?

Any tips on how to export between libraries and keep the correct dates with your photos?
I am currently using iPhoto 9. I recently tried to transfer photos from an older library (2002) to a new library.
With past versions of iPhoto, I would burn the "old" - i.e. 2002, library to a DVD, open the "new" library, mount the "old" library DVD and drag the photos from the DVD within iPhoto to copy them into the new library. In the past, when I have used this method, the "dates" that accompanied the photos would be preserved (exporting and importing, however, would cause this data to be lost).
Something is definitely wrong, as my dates on the imported photos range from the year 2000 (before I even owned a digital camera) to 2008 (possibly when I upgraded the 2002 library to iPhoto 8). The mounted library from the disk shows the correct dates, however. The dates only go "bad" on importing them to the new library.
Does anyone have a work-around for this problem? Thank you in advance!

Try using iPhoto Library Manager to move files/albums/events - including metadata - between Libraries.

  • My iPad 3 is not charging on my macbook pro mid-2012. It was working yesterday and it is not working now, and I'm trying to transfer files between them. How do I charge my iPad with my macbook without having to be a completely new computer?

I am trying to transfer files between my ipad 3 and my macbook pro mid-2012 and they will just not connect. I connected them yesterday and it worked fine. And i can not air drop these files into my ipad it has to be done through itunes. And i can not afford to buy a new computer. How do i get these two to connect without having to buy a completely new computer?

Computer USB ports, regardless of the computer maker, have a relatively low power output and thus are not good chargers. They will charge but it takes a long time. You should be charging your iPad from wall power, or a more powerful source like an in-car charger.
Buying another computer will not change that.
