Transfer pre-paid phone to contract account early?

Hi all,
I currently have an Alltell Samsung SCH-R430 (MyShot) assigned to my contract account. The phone is physically breaking where you flip it open and occasionally glitches when I'm text messaging, so I can't see what I'm typing unless I start a new message. Well, I found a used Verizon pre-paid phone on Listia and got it to use on my contract, but the phone apparently hasn't been used for six months consecutively yet, which I learned is what it has to be used for to be put onto a contract. The phone I want to activate is a Samsung SCH-U350 (Smooth). Is there any way I can activate it without having it on prepaid for six months? Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for the response. I ended up being able to buy a used LG Tritan from a friend for $20 to put on there, so it's all good now.

  • Changing my pre-paid phone number

I am writing this post after spending 2 hours on the phone with the automated system and going through 4 "live" people. All I wanted to do was change my WA phone number to an AK phone number. The automated system would give me a new phone number, then tell me it couldn't do it, then hang up on me. No offer to talk to a live person. I would get back on the number and wait as the choices it gave me was, "or hold and talk to an expert." When I would wait to talk to the expert, it would go through a menu and then finally hang up on me, saying, "sorry you are having trouble, good-bye." I finally tried another number and did get live people. It turns out that in AK they can't change the phone number if your phone is not 4G and it turns out not in my area. Well I have a pre-paid phone that had $304.00 on the account because I don't use it much. So I asked if I could cancel my automatic payment each month and continue to use the phone until the money was gone. That took holding and back and forth with "corporate." They offered me a "deal" Pay 2 months and they will extend my due date 6 months. I did not want this as I felt that I should not have to pay more to use the money I already put on the phone. After "haggling", they would not help me with that. My husband told me to go ahead and pay $30 and try to use up my $ in 6 months. I will not use Verizon again for the fact that every time we have been on the phone with customer service we spend over an hour and have come away with no answer or a frustrating conversation. This was definitely the "straw" that broke my back. I thought that pre-paid was a convenience, but it is not. There is no way to get out of it without paying. I did pre-paid to avoid a contract, but I was misinformed. I am frustrated and very disappointed with Verizon. We had them for our home phone until Frontier bought them and I had them for my cell phone and could use my little pre-paid phone anywhere and bragged about it when all my family and friends had smart phones that would not work in some areas. I would think that they could extend the time on my phone for at least a year without me having to pay more. After all they took the money from my credit card automatically every month. It is my money and I should be able to use it. Any one else have to deal with this?

  • Use a pre-paid phone with regular plan?

I am fairly new to Verizon and my husband already lost his phone.  Since there are no sim cards, can I still buy a pre-paid phone to use with our regular monthly plan?  If so how?

You cannot purchase a phone packaged for Verizon's prepaid service and use it immediately with a monthly (postpaid) plan.  You must use the phone with prepaid service for 6 months before it can be activated on a contract line.
So, you need to either buy a phone at full retail price, or get a used phone for your husband's line.

  • Can I use a pre-paid phone with regular plan?

I am new to Verizon and since there is no sim card I wasn't sure if you could buy a pre-paid phone but use it with a regular monthly plan?  My husband already lost his phone and we are about 18 months from an upgrade!

    sh0425,
I'm sorry about your husband's phone, luckily we do have options. Currently, a pre-paid device must be activated on a pre-pay account for six months before eligible to activate on a standard post-pay account. However, we do offer Certified Pre-Owned devices at a fraction of the cost of the devices at full retail. You can review all of our devices here: http://bit.ly/CPOdevices. If you have insurance on his line, you can file an insurance claim with Asurion at www.phoneclaim.com.
    Have a great day!

  • LG Chocolate to Pre-Paid phone card

Ok, I have this LG Chocolate that an old friend gave to me. I was wondering if it was possible to take the phone to Verizon and get it to where I can use pre-paid phone cards on them. If so, how much would it cost.
    Thanks much.

You can open up a prepaid account with your own equipment. Here is a link provided for the prepaid website to view plans and prices.

  • I bought a pre-paid phone card . Why is this?

I bought a pre-paid phone card and my time was added but it was not added as my $45 unlimited plan and I bought the $45 phone card at the Target store by my house. I also bought $10 worth of extra bridge data with my credit card this month and it has not been added as well. Why is this? If this does not get figured out I am going to be switching to a different phone service provider.

        cutie0707,
I definitely understand needing to make sure this time is added correctly! That's very important. Our prepaid team are the only ones able to view prepaid accounts. They are available to help at 888-294-6804. They can make sure everything is set up correctly and you get everything you are supposed to!

  • SIM free phone = Pre-paid phone, is this correct??

I'm currently looking for a new iphone and am quite sure that iPhone 5s would be the one.
Also, this time I am interested in buying a SIM free 5s and will remain with my current provider, AT&T.
However, one of my friends said that SIM free phone is a basically pre-paid phone.
Personally I believe this is so untrue but still not quite sure about it.
So I want to know if my friend is right or not and also, if he isn't, I'd like to know
what SIM free 5s mobile plan would be and how it works or if it is basically
    same with other 2-year plans.

No. One does not equate to the other. Also, keep in mind that there is a difference between "SIM free" and "unlocked".
Service for an "unlocked" or SIM free phone will cost whatever the plan you choose from your carrier charges. Ask them what your options are.

  • Can I Use A Pre-Paid Phone As My Upgrade??

I need to upgrade my phone, I purchased a prepaid phone from virgin mobile earlier this year, and was wondering if there was a way I could just use that for my new upgrade instead of having to fork out more money for yet another new phone.

    Thanks, spottedcatfish, for your reply.
    Hello AshleyNBarron,
Spottedcatfish is correct. You’re not able to activate a non Verizon Wireless device in our network. Additionally, I would to provide you with a way for you to check the ESN of a device to see if it can be activated in our network. Just click on the following link.  Keep in mind if you would like to activate a Verizon Wireless prepaid device, the device has to be active on a prepaid account for at least 6 months prior to being activated on a post paid account. We constantly offer different promotions with our devices so I do encourage you to review our current devices to see if one fits your needs. Thanks for being part of Verizon Wireless.

  • Does the iPhone support pre-paid phone cards?

Just debating whether I get an iPhone to replace both my iPod Touch and my phone.
Does it support pre-paid calling cards like Bell's and the other phone companies?

The better question would be does the company you want to get pre-paid cards from support the iPhone.
For example, in the US, AT&T will not. You may be able to get it to work for voice, but as soon as they realize you have an iPhone, they will cut you off. I believe T-Mobile works fine, but you can't use T-Mobile's 3G network in the US as it's not compatible.
Check with the carrier(s) you want to use. Technically, an unlocked iPhone 4 will work on any compatible GSM network, though not all functions will work depending on the network provider.

  • What is the latetest iPhone I can use for a pre paid phone plan

I want to buy a phone and pre-pay month to month. Everyone says I can't but my X-wife, my daughter and my granddaughter all have that type of service.

That depends on where you are and what carrier you want to use.
In the US, there are no supported GSM carriers that offer pre-paid service for the iPhone. There are a number of CDMA carriers that do, but you must purchase a phone specifically for their network.

  • Can a pre-paid phone be activated  to work on regular monthly plan

I broke my phone so instead of paying a 100 dollars for the insurance I was wondering if a 60 dollar prepaid phone would work with a regular plan?

If it is a verizon or an unlocked phone I do not see the problem they would have with activating it. There may be an activating fee added though.
