Transfer rate too slow

hi guys!!!
just wondering though...
1) just recently i noticed that transfer rate from my external hard drive to my MBP gets slower.., transferring a 150MB would take like 10mins..so im just wondering what could be done to resolve this issue...
2) and how can i uninstall program.. ( i installed the parallel and eventually installed windows XP on it, in order for me to run some window based application, furthermore, since i dont need it anymore,,, i just dragged the parallel application to the trash). is that all....what about the windows OS that has been installed together with the parallel, is it also deleted???
3) how can i increase the memory speed of my MBP?
thanks in advance guys

well it is probably because you drive is formatted in ntfs if that's the case the transfer speed is not that sexy I must admit ..try using a drive with journalled mac format and see the difference
for parallels yes the windows is gone but i recommend using clean my mac application fro getting rid of leftovers and for future installs
you can expand your memory by adding more ram or you can actually speed it up buy adding lower latenyc hyperx memory modules from kingston altho the difference won't be THAT much

  • Keyboard repeat rate too slow

    Hi.
For some reason I'm unable to increase the keyboard repeat rate in Windows XP. The slider in Control Panel / Keyboard is set to the maximum, but the rate is still too slow for my taste. I've never had a problem with this setting in Windows before, so I suspect it's either a problem with the Boot Camp drivers, or some other Apple hardware related issue.
I've also tried to bypass the Control Panel and set the repeat rate through the registry. The value in HKEYCURRENTUSER/Control Panel/Keyboard/KeyboardSpeed is 31 when the Control Panel slider is at the maximum setting. Other sites have suggested that the unit of this value is "characters per second", and that it could be increased to at least 80. Unfortunately this does nothing for me, even after rebooting. Also, the current max. rate is more like 20 characters per second (which is not fast at all); I can decrease it - using the Control Panel or the registry editor - but it won't go any higher that 20/s (by my measurements).
I'm using a Mac Pro with Boot Camp and rEFIt (Leopard 10.5.1, Windows XP SP2, and Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy). Keyboard is the new aluminum Apple keyboard, but I've plugged in my old Logitech keyboard too, same result.
    Any ideas?

    Hi, Warren -
If you have a reasonable size computer store (not an Apple one) not too far away, it may be worthwhile to visit it so she can sample the feel of various brands of keyboards.
One thing to consider is that the keyboard should be compatible with Mac keyboard startup commands - not all are.
I like the Macally iMediaKey keyboards - their layout is not as condensed as the newer Apple keyboards, and I like the action of the keys. In particular, I also like the fact that the keyboard has a functional power key, and extra programmable keys along the top - they're very handy for starting up commonly used programs without having to consume Fkeys.

  • Time Capsule Ethernet Transfer rate very slow

    Hello,
In order to transfer a 65Gb file from an iMac to TC, I decided to use the Ethernet port instead of wireless. The transfer rate is about 1-2Mbs /s instead of a regular Ethernet 100Mbs /s. It's been 4 hours so far and will probably be 7 hours when it's completed.
    Facts
    I turned off Airport.
I'm using an Ethernet CAT5 cable.
Why is it so slow?? Is there a setting I'm missing?
    Thanks,

In the real world if you have ethernet 10/100/1000 and are using a cat 6 cable then expect no more than 11M/sec
    8 M/sec if wireless N
    4 M/sec if wireless B/G
Cat5 you'd use for ethernet 10/100 narrow band width.

  • HDD data transfer rate is slow in my new i7

    Hi
I had MacBook Pro 15" , 2.8 GHz , 500 GB HDD and because of some hardware problems Apple replace this laptop with new MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 i7 CPU, 500 GB HDD. I install same windows7 64bit in both via Boot camp. Disk transfer rate in old MacBook is 5.9 and in my new laptop is 5.6 ?!?!?!?
I installed Bootcamp drivers and also installed all updates of windows7.
Can you tell me reason of this difference and any solution to improve this rate?

Hi n, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
As you're still covered under warranty, call AppleCare or go to an Apple Store or AASP and explain the situation. A replacement computer is supposed to meet or exceed the machine it replaced, and if yours isn't performing to that level . . . .

  • *** USB transfer rate VERY slow

Somethings going on with my MacPro. It's a 2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon and it's having extreme difficulty recently transferring files. Currently I'm transferring a file from one of my external HDs to another (something I've done millions of times in the past) and it's going to take 35 minutes to transfer a 975.1mb file. This would take less than a minute on my iBook G4.
What could be the problem here and does anyone have a good suggestion to solve it? This is painful.
    Thanks in advance

Something may be forcing it to USB 1.1 speed. Are there any USB hubs (such as the USB hub in the display) between the computer and the drive? Have you tried different USB ports on the computer?

  • Scan rate too slow for I/O buses

    Hello,
Could somebody please explain what the attached message means and how I can overcome it
    Thanks in advance

Thank you for the answer. I apologize for not attaching the
image the first time. My hardware is cRIO 9014 with a 9104 chassis and modules
AO, DO, DI and AI and I am using LabVIEW 8.6.1. The concept is to control a
unit either by a touch panel (TPC 2106T) or by my PC. For this reason, I created
a project containing the cRIO controller, the touch panel and two
different vis (for now I leave the Touch panel out of the game, I mentioned it
just because is included in the project), one under the CRIO controller and one
on the PC. I also made a Library containing shared variables to obtain
communication between cRIO and PC (what I am planning to do in the future is to
set the RT vi as start up vi (in order to run always) and controlling the unit
either by the PCvi or by the touch panel vi. What I want to do now is running
the 2 vis (RTvi and PCvi) simultaneously. For the RTvi I used a timed loop with
the synchronized to scan engine selected in the input node. For the PC vi I use
a while loop with a time delay. When I am trying to deploy the RTvi I receive
the message sent in my previous post. The scan engine settings are: scan period
100sec and network publishing period 100ms. I hope that my explanation is clear
now. Please let me know if you need further information.
    Thanks in advance

  • Slow transfer rate Music from iTune to iPhone

    Hello,
I am brand new user of iPhone. I am transferring some of my songs from iTune to iPhone but the transfer rate seems slow. I have a iPod Nano and compare to that iPhone transfer rate is way slower than my Nano.
    For example, the song
"break on through (to the other side)[Remix]" by The Doors,
which is 7:07 long and 6.7MB in file size, took 10 seconds to transfer
The same song took only 2.3 seconds on my Nano.
Does this make sense? Or is there a problem?
    thanks
    Sa'ad

I'm not positive, but I believe the 3rd generation iPod syncs via firewire, but maybe the 3rd generation iPod supports syncing via firewire or USB.
Data transfer via firewire is much faster than data transfer via USB 1.1 or 2.0. I for one wasn't very happy about Apple no longer supporting syncing via firewire with iPods - I thought Apple did this for the Windows market only, and basically they did since many PC ugly box assemblers didn't include a firewire port and firewire didn't catch on and gain enough momentum in the market as an overall, which is a shame. Data transfer via firewire is much faster and more reliable IMO.
Anyway, are you positive you are syncing your iPod via USB and not via firewire?

  • Slowed transfer rate on ipod shuffle

Hello all. For some reason my 2nd gen shuffle transfer rate has slowed down. When I drag songs onto it I get a "waiting for ipod" message and progress bar for a few seconds before the songs begin to transfer. Songs used to begin transferring immediately, but now I get this window every single time. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
    iBook G3(dual USB)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I tried resetting it several times and this actually is what caused the trouble. Resetting/restoring...etc disables the shuffle's disc-use option which, when enabled, vastly increases transfer rates. Of course, you have to manually eject it, but that seems a small price to pay. Let me know if this does the trick for you. Take care.

  • Satellite L670-1KZ - external HD 3TB use - transfer rate.

    Hi everybody,
this thread is a complement of my previous thread about "One partition for HD 3TB".
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=67275
As I previously said, I managed to merge the partition into one and I started copying my blu-ray back-up onto my 3TB, HD from HD (usb / e-sata and e-sata / usb), from my laptop to HD (e-sata).
For your info, when you reach 2TB (average 30mo/s HD to HD and 50mo/s laptop to HD up to 2TB),
the transfer rate is slowing down dramaticaly, I have now around 10-15mo/s average, from HD to HD as well from laptop to HD (more 10 than 15 now).
Luckily, it will affect only the around, 740GB remainning to fulfill, but, it's really annoying in terms of time.
If anyone manage to get a better transfer rate, please let me know (even on another laptop) your configuration.
This damned 3TB HD is fine for capacity, but a hell to fulfill when using HD to HD ! I can't imagine for 4TB HD.
I am wondering what can be the speed transfer using usb3 from laptop to HD... And why it's is so slow...
    Guillaume

Oh, also, I forgot, I had some issue using this Storeva SilverDock U3 with the seagate 3TB 7200 tr/mn on my laptop.
    1. It's impossible to disconnect it using the secured disconnection. Everytime I have to switch off my laptop before switched off the dock. Never know I won't take the risk to switch it off when connected to my laptop.
    2. When using this dock + my Antec MX-1 external box with inside 2TB HD, I have some trouble shooting with my folders on the windows "explorateur", the icon disappears, the picture can't be display propely (.jpg files) .
Maybe an electricity problem or video card problem ? I tell you what, I am gonna fulfill this 3TB as quick as possible, and never reconnect it to my laptop.
And, for info, this dock + this HD is compatible with the Dune H1, the loading time are a bit longer than with a 2TB, used as internal or external on the Dune, maybe +3/5sec.
I bought a 7200 tr/mn, but everybody knows that 7200 are prohibited for dune H1 used as internal,
    must use only 5400 tr/mn.
I might perform a benck for temperature later on, and will keep yu posted.
Link to dock + HD for ref :
    HD 590GB free remaining : one file of 33GB = 1H @ > 13 < 18mo/s (Dock e-sata to HD usb).

  • FTP/SFTP/FISH (etc) slow file transfer rate over LAN

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with transferring files over my home network that has been bothering me for quite some time.
I have a 802.11n router which should provide me with the transfer rate up to 150 Mbps (afaik). When I download files from the Internet, 3 MB/s data transfer rate is of no problem.
However, when receiving or sending data over LAN, the transfer rate is much slower (1.8 MB/s).
My rough guess is (after reading some papers on this topic) that TCP protocol is causing this (its flow control feature to be exact), since TCP max window size is too small on Linux by default.
So, setting TCP max window size to a greater number should solve this.
    I tried putting this:
    # increase TCP max buffer size setable using setsockopt()
    # 16 MB with a few parallel streams is recommended for most 10G paths
    # 32 MB might be needed for some very long end-to-end 10G or 40G paths
    net.core.rmem_max = 16777216
    net.core.wmem_max = 16777216
    # increase Linux autotuning TCP buffer limits
    # min, default, and max number of bytes to use
    # (only change the 3rd value, and make it 16 MB or more)
    net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 16777216
    net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 65536 16777216
    # recommended to increase this for 10G NICS
    net.core.netdev_max_backlog = 30000
    # these should be the default, but just to be sure
    net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 1
    net.ipv4.tcp_sack = 1
in /etc/sysctl.conf but to no avail.
So either there is no problem with the max window size setting, or the Linux kernel ignores it (maybe because /proc is no longer supported?).
    Thanks for any neat ideas.

  • E3200 slow transfer rate to synology NAS

    Hello .
    I just bought a synology NAS ds212j .  I updated to DSM4.0. I purchased 2
    Seagate ST2000DM001 Barracuda 7200RPM 2 TB SATA 6 GB/s NCQ 64 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive
My e3200 has the latest 1.0.04 firmware
I'm backing up via time machine(mac book pro) in MAC 10.7.4 which has a wireless N card.
in Utilities (activity monitor)I'm only getting 9 megabytes per second , why is it so slow? I feel like it's taking forever. e3200 says it does up to 300 megabytes per second. any possible settings causing this?
a backup of 202 gigs has been running for about 4 hours and still going
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The 300 megabits per a second claim is also dependent on the wireless interference around your area and the maximum link speed that the macbook pro's wireless chip can handle.
First, I would suggest visiting the wireless tab in the router's online interface and change the channel width to auto. That will allow the router to increase it's maximum speed to 300mbps if there isn't too much wireless interference.
After that, you can check the macbook's wireless link speed. Keep in mind that the usable speed (throughput) is usually around half of the link speed. That's just how 802.11abgn works.
I'm sure that if you tried a wired connection to the router, you would experience faster transfer rates compared to using a wireless connection.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • KT3 Ultra ARU Slow HD Transfer Rates

    Hello,
First, please see my system information at the bottom of this message.
I have a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU motherboard and have installed a Maxtor ATA133 60GB hard drive with 2 MB cache.  The hard drive is jumpered as Master and is connected all by itself on the IDE1 ribbon cable.  On IDE2 I have a CDRW (Master) and a CD-ROM (Slave).  My other hard drive (WD 120GB ATA100 8 MB cache) is on IDE3 and is set up in RAID 1+0 stripe.
I recently ran the Sandra file system benchmark on my hard drives with what I think are very discouraging results.  My Maxtor drive on IDE1 scored 32 MB/s and my WD drive on IDE3 came in at 23 MB/s.  Those are some stinky results aren’t they?
I checked my Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and it indicates that for my Primary IDE Channel the current transfer mode for device 0 is Ultra DMA Mode 6.  I don’t know how to check the transfer mode on my IDE3 hard drive.
Question #1:  Are my 32 MB/s and 23 MB/s results slow for my hardware?
Question #2:  If these results are slow, how can I increase the transfer rates?
    Please help!
    Thank you!!!!
    My System
    AMD Athlon XP 3000+
    MSI KT3 Ultra ARU MOBO
    2 x 256MB DDR PC2700 SDRAM
    ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB
    Western Digital WD1200JB 120GB Caviar HD ATA100 8MB Cache 1+0 Stripe/RAID0
    Maxtor 6Y060L0 60GB HD ATA133
    Pioneer DR-A04S CD-ROM 32X
    Lite-On LTR-48125W 48x12x48 CDRW
    TTGI TT-350SS (350W) Power Supply
    PSU Ratings: +3.3V/28A +5V/35A +12V/16A
    Windows XP Home SP2

These tranfer rates seem fine for sequential read rates. The maxtor drive is at mode 6 and the WD should be at mode 5 if its ATA100.

    any ideas?
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
In the Manual Setup->Advanced->Logs and Statistics page of Airport Utility you'll find information on wireless signal quality for each client connected. Primarily, signal quality will determine the connection speed of your file transfers, the best you can do to improve things is to find a wireless channel with the least interference, Manual Setup->Wireless.
My Macbook Air connection is showing -66 Signal, -89 Noise, 122 Rate which gives me a wireless file transfer rate in bursts from 500kbps to 22Mbps. Time Capsule is not the fastest combo device, even file transfers over LAN Ethernet are around 50% slower than a regular Airport Extreme and I've found transfers to the disk from a GigE connected Mac Pro top out at around 60Mbps.
The Time Capsule is more useful as a convenience tool than speed I think so just be patient.

  • Extremely slow transfer rate from iOmega eGo to iMac

I am using a brand new 27" iMac and an iOmega eGo 2TB hard drive (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2374133,00.asp). The drive has it's own power source and is connected to my computer via USB.
I'm trying to transfer files from the hard drive to my new iMac and the transfer rate is painfully slow. They are files from my old MacBook which I sold last week.
When the disc is not mounted, it seems to function normally - it's blue indicator light is consistently on and it sounds right. However, when I mount the disc and begin using it - in this instance to transfer files, it goes extremely slow. The blue light will mostly remain off, then interminnently flash on and onscreen a small amount of data will move.
Through disk utility I was able to successfully verify and repair the disc, but it's still behaving this way. Can anyone help? SOS!

  • Too slow transfer speed for Toshiba 3.0

    Hi there
i just purchased a toshiba 3.0 external hdd.
    I use windows 7 genuine.
My pc specs are pretty ok cos i am able to run heavy games like crysis 2.
The problem is, My external hdd has slow transfer rates. This problem i started facing aroung 3 months ago. My hdd is out of warranty.
My USB ports are ok and i connect it to primary port.
The transfer speeds are just around 10MBPS and sometimes it drops to KBPS!!!!
Also, it does not copy some files and gives error "Failed to read from source disk" or something like that.
There is no Virus in it, I have enabled write-cache. I have defragged it.
My OS is fine and also, i checked it on other OSes.
Also, i have tried using "check disk for errors" with proper procedure but it hangs somewhere in the middle after it processes 500000 sectors or so.
I got my HDD from my cousin as he no more used PC and without any cover so i dont have any idea of model (although if there is any utility to find model then please notify me).
Also, it worked fine during then. Me and my cousin are from India only.
How can i fix this issue?
    Please help me.
