Transfer registration of iPod mini to new owner...

Hi there-
I just sold my precious blue iPod mini on eBay so I can upgrade to one of the new video iPod video players. When I sold the unit on eBay, I indicated that I would transfer the registration to the new owner.
I said it, but I don't know how to do it. Do they just register the unit and then Apple will send me a confirmation e-mail that someone else is attempting to register the unit?
Thanks for anyone's help!

Can i transfer music from ipod to a new computer i do not have my old computer files as it crashed.

For purchased songs you can plug the iPod into you new computer and use the "File > Transfer Purchases from iPod" feature in iTunes. For music not purchased from the iTunes store you will need a third party program to help. There are a few of them out there, and they are easy to find on Google.

  • How do I transfer IPod mini to new computer

I have an Ipod mini that was linked to an old PC. Can I transfer it to my new IMac?

Yes.  You'll need to copy all the content from your iPod to your new iTunes library first before you'll be able to sync it with the new library. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Moving iTunes Library from iPod mini to new computer (old hard drive dead)

Hi all, I own a 2nd gen (I believe) iPod mini with all of my music from my iTunes library on it. Last weekend, my computer began freezing/crashing while loading my desktop, and a diagnostic confirmed that the read/write head on my hard drive was bad. I don't currently have the spare cash to send it away to a recovery lab, so I am starting from scratch with a new computer I will be ordering today.
My question is this--is it going to be possible to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer? Many of the songs on my iPod are from other sources, during the years that I was not using iTunes, and from what I have read I will only be able to transfer my purchased music. I know there is a way to make my iPod into a hard drive in order to transfer the music to my new computer, but as I said, I cannot even boot up my old machine, and thus cannot access my iTunes library on my HD.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice you may have.

I've had to do this in the past (4 years ago). Try this page for a list of programs that can help you:

  • Transferring Library from Old iPOD mini to new computer...

My computer was fried about a month ago. My company's IT department replaced it, but I lost my library of iTUNES entirely from the hard disk. The whole library is of course on my old iPOD mini. I want to transfer the library from the old iPOD mini to my new computer and then, in turn, to my new NANO - which I am very excited about. I have installed the nano and the iTUNEs on my new computer. I am fearful that if I plug my old iPOD mini into the new computer, with the blank library, that it will erase the iPOD mini library. HELP!

DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
    5 – Within iTunes: File=>Add Folder
6 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    7 - Click OK
8 - The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes
8a –- this will take some time depending on your PC and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

  • Download/Export/Sync iPod mini to new computer without losing mini - help!

My computer crashed and burned and nothing on the hard drive was recoverable. I'd like to sync my existing mini with this new PC, which is running Windows XP Professional.
How do I do that without losing what is on my mini? I've downloaded the latest iTunes, but I don't know what to do to download the music on my iPod onto my new PC.
    Help, please!

I don't know what to do to download the music on my iPod onto my new PC.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Help! Can't transfer music to iPod Mini!

    Hi there!
I had some CDs that went with my iPod mini that I do not have with me right now for installation when I wanted to set my iPod up with my computer.
So instead of using the CDs, I downloaded iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ ... and I installed it on my computer. I have a Windows XP so I downloaded the one for Windows and so I installed iTunes.
I've got iTunes set up and added music to my library but now I want to transfer it to my iPod mini. I connected the iPod to the computer's USB port and something popped up saying I needed to update my version or something for my iPod...
So I did. I downloaded something called IPodSetup ... something similar to downloading the update for my iPod http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/iPodUpdaterXP/ ... this isn't the website I downloaded it from but I downloaded the update from Apple's site I think.
Upon installing that, it said that it was complete in updating... and so I reconnected my iPod and I get the "Please do not disconnect" ... and it pulls up a folder of some folders inside that for my iPod, and it doesn't stop saying "Please do not disconnect" ... I've looked in the mini-help adobe file but nothing there helped me either.
Please someone help! I'd love to transfer music again to my iPod. I've reset my iPod so far... thought that might help.

Yes. I have done that. I installed the update and then I connect the iPod to the USB port to the computer.
When I do that, at the top left of my mini, a circle rotates clockwise I think with two arrows, and it loads my iPod as a driver I think... atleast that is what I think happens. It opens a window as "my name IPO (F:)" and inside that window is three folders
    Calendar
    Notes

  • Transfer music from iPod mini to iPod with video

I'm going to be spending a few nights at my friend's house and they plan on giving me their iPod with video. I currently have the iPod mini and I was just wondering if there's a way (in Windows XP) if I can get my music and playlists from my iPod mini to my new iPod with video at my friend's house so I don't have to wait until i can go home and connect it to my PC.

    Actually Problem solved!
if anyone wants to know the steps here they are
*make sure your iPod is enabled for hard disk use*
-on your PC, export the library and any playlists to a flash drive or CD (in this case, I'm using a flash drive)
-create a new user account in Windows
    -open and setup iTunes
-connect the iPod that has the music you want
-go to FILE then IMPORT, and select all your playlist text files along with your library xml file and import
-when done, connect your NEW iPod and format it
-then sync the music and there you go! all your songs on a new iPod when you don't have access to your PC!

  • Can I use AC charger from ipod mini on new nano???

My son had an ipod mini. He had bought an AC charger for it. I am buying him an ipod nano for his birthday (ipod mini went bad...). Can he use the charger from the mini to the nano???

Maybe, depends on the charger. It would appear that while older iPods only needed the power pins, newer ones may require the data pins to also be active for charging. Some chargers do not connect the data pins at all.
But it won't damage the Nano. It will either work fine or do nothing at all.
    Which charger is it?

  • Computer broken, how to transfer music from ipod to the new computer?

    Hi,
so the problem is that my computer got broken and all my music went down with that also. Now i want to put the music on my ipod to my new computer so how do I do it? Or can I even do it? I hope so.
    So, please tell me!
    Thanks

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • IPod mini and new computer

I have a new Macbook on the way. If I want to connect my iPod mini to it and start using it, will I have to use the disk that came with the iPod?

The Macbook will come with iTunes installed so really you just need to connect the Mini up. However, if your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: Using iPod with Multiple computers
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, (on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Have you thought about how you are going to put your existing music on to the MacBook? One way is to copy the songs from your iPod. there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.
