Transfer Safari bookmarks to new MacBook Pro

I just got a new MB Pro yesterday and would like to transfer my bookmarks from my older SR MB. So I "exported" them to a jump drive and then transferred that file "Safari Bookmarks.html" to my new desktop. I then went into Safari and tried the "import" option. However, I get an message that says "can not import bookmarks. Unable to read any bookmarks in Safari Bookmarks.html.
I don't know why this process can't be simpler? I've had the same problems with Windows Bookmarks (Favorites) for years now. I did manage to drag the entire Safari Bookmarks folder on to the Bookmarks Bar, but all these bookmarks are in sub-folders under "Safari Bookmarks.html".

Move the file ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist over in the Finder, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.
First of all, when I export my bookmarks, the produced is called "safari bookmarks.html". Moving this file as per the about directions did not make Safari use the new bookmark list. I then tried renaming the file to bookmarks.PLIST and that didn't help either. I must be doing something wrong. Is it necessary to reboot for the change to take effect?

  • How do i transfer itunes to my new macbook pro

I have just received a new macbook pro (Merry Christmas) and am trying to figure out how to transfer my music from my iPhone to the MBP.

You can copy only your User folder using Migration Assistant.
This will bring over all your user data (emails, application settings, bookmarks, Music, Movies, Documents, etc.)
Copying the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder will copy the entire iTunes library.
This is done when using Migration Assistantl to copy your user folder.

  • How do I transfer iweb site to new macbook pro?

I used migration assistant to transfer from old macbook to new macbook pro. Both are using lion. When I open iWeb on the new computer it does not show my site. Both computers are connected by firewire, where do I find the files? This site is not published to mobile me, it is hosted by godaddy.
    thanks
    Joe

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Once you've unhidden the library it's a simple matter of copying the domain file from your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the old Mac to the same folder on the new one.  You may have to create an iWeb folder on the new Mac if there is not one.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Transfer iTunes library to new MacBook Pro while maintaining playlists, ratings, etc.

I just got my new MacBook Pro for college, and I need to transfer my entire iTunes library (19,000+ songs) from my dektop Mac to my new computer. I have tried a lot of people's methods concerning transfering libraries, but everytime, I lose my playlists, play counts, and ratings. I have tried a lot of methods, but none seem to work. I have tried consolidating libraries and other methods. Does anyone have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong.
(I have a 1TB hd that houses all of the music for my iTunes library for my desktop. I am attempting to move it all to the MBP. My MBP has two partitions, one of which is for storage and music (not my Macintosh HD) which is where I am attempting to copy my library to from the 1TB drive.)
    Thanks in advance!
    CB

Here's one way to connect two computers.  There's other ways but we have absolutely no idea what hardware you have. - How to use FireWire target disk mode - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 - includes description of hardware and software requirements.
As for files and folders to copy and where; Kappy has already made a list above, including showing locations.  As for how; using drag and drop in Finder will probably work, but it will depend upon how you eventually connect the computers, or use a hard drive, or a flash drive...  Currently there are too many unknowns about your system to provide a detailed list without itemizing for hundreds of different scenarios.
By the way, feel free to start a new topic for a question. This one was really about sorting out chrisbraun5's issue.

  • How to transfer data to a new MacBook Pro?

My wife has a 12" Power PC G4.
    Running OS 10.5.8.
She is receiving a brand new MacBook Pro today from Apple.
How do we transfer all her "everything" from the G4  to the new computer?
    Thx,
    Steve

Avoid the "Transfer from another Mac" when you set the machine up.
If you don't have or want to set up the networking for the Internet when settingup the machine, just click the "Other Network" button until you get the "I don't have a nework" option.
Unless you want your name all over the computer and viewable to everyone on a network, I would avoid the registration screen (you can do it at Apple.com) and use a nickname in the setup.
Since the G4 PPC machine is rather old and the processor is differnet, you don't want to use "Transfer to my Mac" feature. Can't use the PPC programs on the new Intel Mac's.
Place files from the G4 onto a USB thumb drive and transfer them manually to the new machine.
If you need a Office Suit product, LibreOffice is free and cross platform, Linux, OS X and Windows, reads/writes Office files and makes PDF's too.

  • How do i transfer safari bookmarks to new iphone 6 plus

how do i transfer safari bookmarks from an iphone 4s to a new iphone 6 plus?

All you need to do is make a backup of your iPhone 5, either in iCloud or iTunes and then restore your new iPhone 6 to that backup. When you say you are getting this message about Find My iPhone, have you set that up already in the new phone? Importing photos from the iPhone to the computer does not require Find My iPhone, just an import utility on the computer, depending on your computer OS.

  • Can I transfer files to a new MacBook Pro using Thunderbolt?

Just bought a new MacBook Pro. Tried using Data Migration Assistant. It was wanting to transfer data using my wireless network with an estimated time to complete of 40 hours. Would I be able to accomplish this faster using Thunderbolt?

Only if the data is on a Thunderbolt-equipped hard drive now.
If that's not true, use a wired Ethernet connection or FireWire Target Disk Mode.
