Transfer setting from CS3 to CS6

How do I transfer settings, preferences, actions and plugins from CS3 to CS6?
Flash and Photoshop?
I have a few that I purchased from a third party. What folders to move or what files? I want to avoid redundant items if possible when installed in CS6.
Thanks

Please repost in the Flash and Photoshop forums separately. The people who use those programs will be in the best position to help. My bet is that settings, preferences won't transfer. Actions and Plugins maybe. Plug-ins probably have to be updated for compatibility.

You may want to re-download the plugins from where you bought them and install them fresh for CS6. Or at a minimum check to see if new CS6 versions are available. The underlying architecture changed for plug-ins when CS6 was released. Some developers had to re-write CS6 versions. Some may work, while others may have had to be updated to work with CS6.

  • Problem importing actions from CS3 to CS6

Hi, I have just installed CS6 and need some actions that I made in CS3 and earlier.
Info that I read on support sited said that I should be able to import them.
I have tried the edit import actions menu.
I have tried dragging the old action set to the new version.
    All to no avail.
Tried the online live help and got no where.
What I would like to try next is to instal CS4 and see if I can import the action set from CS3 and then onwards from CS4 to CS6
However the support person could not give me a link to download CS4......
Any help greatly appreciated as I really need my old actions and CS6 is a useless to me without them!

You need to load them into Photoshop to use them. Their save files can be any where on your system. Once loaded they are copied into your user id Photoshop  preferences.  Photoshop load no action set on its one. The default set is in Adobe default set of preferences. This is the only set in the Photoshop default Actions Palette.  The action set listed in the action palette's fly-out menu are the one in Adobe Presets Actions and perhaps ones you copied into there or save into a folder Adobe set up for you user id for the current release of Photoshop your using.  My advice is do not save any of your actions sets into any Adobe folder.  Instead save them into a folder like "My Photoshop Actions" load them from there too or drag an drop them onto Photoshop.  Once loaded as  I wrote above they get copied into your user id Photoshop preferences. And will be in the Actions Palette when you shutdown Photoshop and re open Photoshop.
Photoshop does not import actions you must load them one way or an other.

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS6 font compatibility issues...

i recently upgraded from cs3 to cs6. my old true type font library does not show up in the new software. question: what type format must i buy to be compatible with the cs6 master collection?

Okay...it's a brand new computer (Dell XPS 8500) and I just bought one of the products before I realized that the CS3 wasn't compatible with Windows 7.  Do I delete the CS3 and reinstall the after-market product?  Or do I delete the after-market product and reinstall and it automatically finds CS6?
I've been trying to get this running for three days!  LOL  I'm ready to throw it out the window....
Thanks for your speedy reply and thanks in advance for any more light you can shed on my situation!

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS6 -- after market stuff gone!

After my upgrade from CS3 to CS6, my after-market items are not showing up.  (Kubota Action Dashboard, Totally Rad Actions RadLab...)
My inexperience assumed that the CS6 would overwrite the CS3 in the upgrade, but now I have two programs....one with my after-market products and one without.
    Any help out there??
    Thanks in advance...

No.  There is no longer an upgrade path from CS3 to CS6.

I'm very surprised that Adobe has apparently started a "one version back" upgrade policy.
Yes, it generated a big outcry when it was announced in late 2011.
Originally the dispensation for CS3 and CS4 users did not exist. It was "one version back" across the board, effective immediately. That, frankly, stank. Made everyone mad, not least the habitual version skippers who were stranded on CS3 or CS4 still in the "three versions back" mindset.
Took a lot of concerted campaigning from grass roots users as well as some very influential key Adobe users such as Scott Kelby http://scottkelby.com/2011/an-open-letter-to-adobe-systems/to change Adobe's corporate mind and reintroduce some fairness and sanity to the situation.
Eventually Adobe saw the light and conceded to a 31 Dec 2012 cutoff for CS3 and CS4.
However, I'm expecting to see some irate CS3 and CS4 users in the forums in January 2013.
That said, I personally believe that traditional licensing (pay once upfront and use forever) for Adobe products is in its sunset phase being slowly prepared for retirement. Pure speculation on my behalf. I'm of the opinion that Adobe will go Cloud-only with all its software delivery sometime within the next 5 years so this "one version back" nonsense will probably become a moot point.

  • Migrate from CS3 to CS6

I recently upgraded to CS6 Design Standard. I was told before purchase that CS3 documents would transfer seamlessly to CS6 ... however, that is not what is happening. When I try to open a CS3 InDesign document in CS6, it tells me I have a "corrupted database," and that I need to export the document out of CS3 (InDesign Interchange, I think) in order to open in CS6. I have like 10 years of documents that I need to access, and I can't resave every one in order to open them. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a workaround?

Best to ask InDesign questions on the InDesign forum
    http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/Gen_WWCombined-MULTI-20111031_1230.pdf
Exporting to INX should only be required to downgrade a document from CS6 to CS3 (so you can open a CS6 document in CS3).
CS6 should be able to open documents created in CS3 - without any special tricks required.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4528380
This INX workaround seems to be required because the CS3 documents are corrupt
    http://blogs.adobe.com/indesignpost/2011/03/quick-tip-how-to-fix-corrupt-indesign-files/
Are they all corrupt? Again, take the discussion to the InDesign forum.

  • Cannot change "Open with" (in context menu) from CS3 to CS6

I have CS5 and CS6 installed, and now I've also installed CS3 (because of problems with ps actions that does not work properly), and in the context menu "Open with", "Open" and "Edit" now starts CS3 instead of CS6.
How change all that to CS6?
    Note:
when choosing "Open with", "Select standard program", and browse/selecting the CS6 exe-file, then STILL the CS3 is displayed in context menu and the CS3 starts.  It's like there is some assocciation from CS6 to CS3 that cannot be altered??
Do I have to uninstall CS6 and install CS6 again, or what?
    OS: Windows 7.
And yes, all my PS versions are legit.

When you install a version of Photoshop the install will associate many image file types the the Photoshop versions your installing.  You may want to re-install CS6 on top of itself and the update it.  You will still have all your Photoshop preferences and CS6 add-ons install and CS6 will be the default application for image file types. Or you can manually change all the image file type associations. Adobe Bridge CS6  may also be able to change image fie types associations in its edit preferences UI. I not sure about the bridge fie each version of the bridge I have installed shows that the same level as tne bridge version of Photoshop is associated with image file file type.  After  I installed CS2 I manually change Image File association back to CC.  However I had to re-install CC a couple of times since then. I have CS2, Subscription CS6 version and CC installed on my workstation.
If you have old CS3 actions that do not work in CS5 and CS6 you can edit them and modify them to work in CS5 and CS6.  If the action add adjustment layers and that is where your you having Problems..  Adobe introduced options in CS4 adjustment panel that can cause Photoshop to work incorrectly.  If you set the option to Adobe defaults setting you may fine that your actions that add Adjustment layer work correctly.  For some unknown reason Adobe refuses the address the bad options they added to the Adjustments panels fly-out menu.  The options change Photoshop Behavior some time which simply put is a bug waiting to bite.

  • Transfering from CS3 to CS6

Now this might sound like a basic question, but I am primarily a marketer and not that tech savvy, so please bear with me...
I finally decided to get of my b.. and upgrade to CS6. I've been having problems with freelancers doing designs for me in CS6 (DW specifically) and seeing them all messed up when I import into my old CS3.
My question is - how to do this properly to make sure the opposite doesn't happen - my website made in DW CS3 not getting messed up after upgrading, since I continue to work on those websites.
    Thanks for the support

I would take a different spin on things. Since DW behaviors are just javascript, I don't think you would have any problem at all in that regard. However, if the layouts are primarily CSS-based layouts, then DW CS3 is going to run from the room screaming, most likely. I sense that when you say they are all messed up when opening a CS6 layout in CS3, I would say that is exactly what I would expect. The real questions are this -
    1. Does the code validate here - http://validator.w3.org
    2. Does the page look OK in a browser
If your answer to both of those is YES, then it's mother nature telling you to stick with the freelancers, or to use CS3 and pay no attention to design view.

  • GREP Commands from CS3 to CS6

    Hi All
we got some GREP tags which we copied from InDesign CS3 to InDesign CS6. Is it possible that those tags don't work anymore? we use [[:punct:]] for example, but InDesign don't recognize the input...
Did Adobe made changes in CS6 the GREP process?
    Thanks for your support!

tried but no success... i just don't understand why the GREP doesn^t work anymore.. here's the string:
    (\d+[[:punct:]])\t(.+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+[[:punct:]]\d+\t)(.+)
    with this table:
    1.     Basel     19     9     9     1     35     :      18     36
GREP find's 1 but the point isn't recognized by [[:punct:]]
Your Grep cannot work for you.
Try this instead (if you need every part alone):
    (\d+[[:punct:]])\t([^\t]+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)([[:punct:]]\t\d+\t)(\d+)
or this (will find the same):
    (\d+[[:punct:]])\t(\w+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)([[:punct:]]\t\d+\t)(\d+)
    or this:
    (\d+\.)\t(\w+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(\d+\t)(:\t\d+\t)(\d+)

  • I only have PP upgrade DVDs from Cs3 to Cs6, I need to reinstall in new machine, how do I do this without a cs6 disk

I Have been using PP since 1.5 I am now on CS6 but the last 3 updates have been on upgrade DVDs. I now need to delete and reinstall Premier. How can I do this without  a CS6 disk. I cannot reinstall CS3 and then do the upgrades individually as CS3 was for Win XP and I'm not sure it would work. Is there a dept in Adobe I can contact (no telephone numbers) to get a CS6 DVD. Thank you for any assistance.

Adobe has made this process much simpler in recent years.
No need to re-install any version earlier than the current version (CS6). All installers (upgrade or full) contain the full program code. The difference between full and upgrade is in the serial number.
All you need do is download (link below) and install CS6, enter the CS6 upgrade serial number then enter the CS5 serial number (even if that too is an upgrade).
    Download CS6 products

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS6

I have Adobe CS3 on my Windows PC and have recently bought a Mac. I am unable to install CS3 on to my Mac, since it is only compatible with Windows. Is it possible to upgrade to CS6 and have it installed in my Mac? How do I go about it?

    Unfortunately no.
The window for CS3 and CS4 to upgrade to CS6 closed on Dec 31, 2012.
    Your options:
Buy a new full version of CS6 for Mac
Join the Creative Cloud (membership includes the ability to install on both Mac and Windows) and pay the monthly fee

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS6 Web & Design Premium

    I am currently running CS3 32-bit on my 64 bit Windows 7 system.  I have purchased CS6 - should I completely remove CS3 before I install CS6?

The two versions can co-exist. If you're not planning to use the CS3 version, then it may be a good idea to remove the earlier version and then install the latest version.
If you, uninstall the CS3 version after installing the latest version, during uninstallation it just might mess up the file associations. Other than that, I don;t think that you'll face any problems.

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS6? What is CS3.x?

I purchased a CS6 upgrade for my CS3 version.  On the box it says I need a valid serial number for CS3.x.  Will the upgrade I bought work for me?

Yes. .x is just a common notation for minor updates which denote differences in bundling/ packaging e.g. 3.1 was the version of Design Premium that came with Acrobat 9 instead of the older Acrobat 8...
