Transfer/Sync Music Ipod to ITunes (i.e. computer)

I have a whole bunch of albums on my IPod Classic 80Gb and would like to transfer them to a new computer install with ITunes on it i.e. sync from the IPod to ITunes as against the normal vice versa, is there any way this can be done? I obviously do not want to have to download all CDs again just so that I can sync as normal.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Cannot sync my ipod to itunes on new computer - not enough privilege

I purchased brand new HP desktop (model M8517C) has Intel quad core processor @ 2.4ghz with 5 gb RAM. Tried to sync ipod to this new computer and worked partly for the first time and since it is not working. During the part syncing it deleted all previous data and now does not sync atall.
Error "The iPod "my name - xxx" cannot by synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
The current computer has only one log in account and so it does have administrator privileges and all privileges. I tried everything that I could think of wasting several hrs but it will not sync.
I have obviously installed the latest version of the iTunes software. The ipod is 60 GB model from few yrs ago and I dont have any warranty.
    Will appreciate any help.

Are you using the latest downloaded version of iTunes from Apple.com, instead of a version that came on disc with the iPod? According to this article, Windows Vista 64-bit required iTunes 7.6 or later

Also, make sure you got the version of iTunes 8 for Windows Vista 64-bit

  • Can not check Sync Music box on iTunes to transfer song to ipod on iphone

I have a play list I want to transfer to my iphone's iPod.  The Sync Music box in iTunes is grey and when I check this box here is the message that appears.
Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone “Denise’s iPhone” will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library.
I want only to move this play list.  How can I get this to sync without replacing all of my library?

You are trying to sync media with a computer other than the one your phone is configured to sync with. You can't do this. The iPhone can sync media with 1 and only 1 computer at a time. If you want to sync with this one instead, you will have to allow it to wipe the media from the phone and replace it with the media from the computer you're trying to sync to now.  This is by design.

Had to get a new hard drive, of course lost all my music in itunes.  If I sync my ipod to itunes now will I lose my music on my ipod?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.

  • Transfer music Ipod to Itunes

In changing my computer OS to windows 2007 I lost my Itunes library. I reloaded same but have lost the songs that I downloaded from CDs. I have these on my Ipod and want to know whether I can trancsfer ny music from my Ipod to Itunes on the computer.

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod musichttp://www.ipod-transfer-copy.com/how-to-transfer-music-from-ipod-to-computer-it unes.html, Hope it helps. how do i sync my ipod with i tunes on a new computer when i don't have access to my old computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in iTunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I have cleared all my music from my iPhone. I have "Sync music" unchecked on iTunes, but some songs are still on "on this phone" in itunes, how to clear it from itunes "on this phone" ?

    iOS 8.0
I have "Sync music" unchecked on iTunes and I have cleared all my music from my iPhone.
On my Mac, on itunes (version 11.4) if you click on "on this phone", there are still remaining 70 songs...
how to clear it from itunes "on this phone" ?

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

  • Each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This happened after the latest download, any suggestions?

each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This started happening after the latest download and my latest purchase.  The latest purchase doesn't show up on my iPod and itunes freezes at synching step 2 on 2.  Any suggestions?

You should Reset your iPod, by
    1. Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 Secs till the Apple Logo comes ON.
    2. Disconnect the sync cable.
    3. Check the iPod Welcome screen, select language, go to menu (if you are lucky, your music are still on the iPod.)
if your iPod doesn't show the Welcome screen, bring it to Apple Store.
If the above is okay, (can see Menu but no Music)
    4. Close iTunes and Reboot your PC.
    5. Start iTunes
    6. Connect the iPod to the Sync cable.
    7. if iTunes ask to Restore, please do so.
    8. Sync your iPod. ( I would advise you to disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program when doing this.)
    Good Luck.
