Transfer trouble!!

I'm terrible with all this stuff so bear with me!
My sister and I shared an iTunes account for a couple years and have acquired around 2,000 songs (which are on my iPhone and backup cds) during it. She recently went to college and the original plan was for me to set up my own iTunes account with my own Apple ID but with the songs on my Iphone. When I hooked up my phone to my computer and started to transfer my songs, authorization messages popped up for emails I didnt know. So I cancelled the sync and went to my account settings and saw that "one computer is authorized to play content purchased with this Apple ID".
When I try to set up a Homesharing account with my sisters ID it says that the limit of 5 authorized computers have been reached. So basically is there any ways I can set up my own iTunes account with the 2,000 songs and without having to go through Homesharing?

nhnx, if I were you I would use the followingwork-around:
1. Burn the music you have purchased on standard music CDs
[Music CDs are those you can play in a standard old-fashioned music CD player. Maybe you have done this already; you mentioned backup CDs? I know about three ways of back upping (is this an English verb?) in iTunes; let me explain:
(A) you can back up all you media in a special iTunes format on CD /DVD. This is good for rebuilding your iTunes under the same user account (sameApple ID) e.g. after a system breakdown or after migrating to a new computer.
(B) You can do the same much more conveniently using special software like copytrans. It transfers also all iTunes settings, purchased apps, covers, songtexts, bookmarks, etc.
(C) Back up using music CDs, as I propose you to do. With these CDs you are independent from iTunes.]
2. Set up a new iTunes on another computer using your own Apple ID. (I understand that you have started to do this already.)
3. Import the music from those music CDs into this new iTunes.
4. Sync your iPhone with your new iTunes and overwrite the existing music on your iPhone with the “new” music from your new iTunes.
If you are pursuing this way you should beware of the following:
5. If you connect your iPhone with a new iTunes account you can choose whether you want to keep your music, podcasts, audiobooks, contact data, calendar data, apps, photos, bookmarks, etc. or whether you want to sync them with the data from the new iTunes (music, apps, etc) respectively with data from your PC via the new iTunes (contact data, bookmarks, etc.). You can choose for each category separately.
6. If you choose not to sync a category with your new iTunes account it stays connected with the “old” iTunes (the one you shared with your sister). In theory you can sync different categories with different iTunes accounts, e.g. music with one and contact data using the other. But this has close limitations, is a bit tricky, so I can’t recommend this to you. I tried this for good a while but finally centralized all data sync on one iTunes on one notebook.
7. Probably you purchased apps for your iPhone. For free apps you can of cause download again to a new iTunes using a new Apple ID.But as far as I know you can not transfer apps you have paid for to another Apple ID.
8. If you are facing this app issue but your sister not, it might be better if SHE is setting up a new Apple ID and importthe music as described above.
9. Transferring music using music CDs is technically bypassing the digital rights management of Apple. If you mind you might better check, whether this is legal under the law of your country.
Good luck and have fun!

  • Can I transfer troubled contents of my iMac into my MacBook Pro & back?

Can I transfer the contents of my iMac (4,1; 2 GHZ Intel Core Duo; 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) into my new MacBook Pro (8,2: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7); both with OS 10.6.7?
I was having trouble with 10.4.11 on my iMac, as shown here: Link: [discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2768285&tstart=0]. I went ahead & installed Snow Leopard & had automatic downloads of the updates.
I am having more trouble now. By the end of the day, I cannot type into browser address line, nor delete highlighted items, nor highlight multiple items. This is temporarily cleared up by restarting.
I previously have always kept my machine going while away from desk. Now, in the evening, it seems to go to sleep--even tho I have web pages that are supposed to refresh themselves automatically & iTunes radio station supposed to stay running.
Yesterday & today after being away, I could not make the screen turn on--although the iTunes radio was playing. This is temporarily cleared up by restarting.
    1. Can this situation be fixed? Problems were not completely solved under Tiger.
Disk Repair indicated disk is OK. I have downloaded AppleJack; & each morning upon starting, it shows a full screen of permissions corrected of various forms of java in system library.

When some sort of update check runs, it shows a bunch of different missing bundle identifier:/library/receipts/...
Would this mean I should try to reinstall Snow Leopard again? (Then update that from my 10.6.3?)
    2. I plan to add memory.
    3. If necessary, I will buy & install a new hard drive.
Question for #2 & #3 (neither of which I have ever down before): If I transfer the contents of iMac hard drive to MBP, will it stay in a folder that I can transfer back, or does it all spread itself throughout the MBP?
If I install a new hard drive, will the transferred-back stuff still exhibit the same problems?
    Thanks,

  • Log & Transfer Trouble

I've increased my ram so now the log and transfer works smoothly. Only now, several of the scenes are not transferring over to the Bin. The little ball twirls and the bar moves to completion. Then nothing. Once I touch it a red exclamation point appears. I was having this trouble before but fixed it with the increase in ram. Note: The clips have no pattern. Some are long, some are short. Any advice would be appreciated.

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.
ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn't have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.

  • Log and transfer troubles

    Hi,
I'm using Log & Transfer in order to import my Canon EOS 5d Mk iii video files on Final Cut Pro 7. Until 2 days ago it was working without problems. Now he doesn't work: since is starting the conversion it shows "clip duration 23 hours" and it doesn't create any converted video files... any suggestion?

There was a recent post with the advice that the timecode slection in the camera menu had to be set to free run in order for Log&Transfer to work properly. So I would double-check that setting.
I assume (since it worked before) you have the latest EOS plug-in. Lion seems to be the most recent OS that it supports.

  • Time machine transfer troubles

Numerous attempts fail. Data Rescue program clone the drive. Browsing the Time machine works with either drive.
Neither drive transfers to a fresh drive.
Using Lion on an iMac. Two Buffalo branded external drives. One 500 GB, the other 1 terabyte, approximately 470 GB of data on the 500 GB in Time Machine backups. First attempt using superduper, it fails. Then I try Disk Utility. It fails. (input/output error, the console log says) Carbon Copy Cloner in block mode fails indicating bad sector blocks. OK. So I use Data Rescue and make a clone of the 500 GB drive onto the 1 Terabyte. All the data is safely in two places. But now the one terabyte thinks it is 500 GBs in size with only 30 GBs left.
Purchase a 2 TB Western Digital, try to use Disk Utility to copy (restore) the Time Machine from the 1 terabyte clone. It fails with the same input/output error. Carbon Copy Cloner in block mode fails as well. Then re-tried the original 500 GB drive to the 2 TB Western Digital. All attempts fail.
Any suggestions of how else I can transfer his data to the larger drive so that he can continue his backups? Forgetting about the backups is not an option, he is in litigation and foresees the need for some of the historical record.

All the data may be there, or it may not.   Whatever was on the bad sectors most likely didn't get transferred, so the backups are incomplete.  The I/O errors tend to confirm that -- part of a file or files (or entire files) may be missing.
You cannot successfully copy corrupted Time Machine backups.
You can try repairing the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.  If that's able to repair them, you may be able to copy them.   That will take a very long time, at best.
But your best bet is probably to just let Time Machine start fresh on the new, empty drive.
You can still view and restore from the old backups, although you'll have a problem if you happen to hit the damaged file(s), via the Browse... option, per #E2 in that same link.

  • HT4527 Transfer trouble - corrupted and unreadable? Really?

I'm trying to transfer my itunes to a new macbook from an old PC. I'm following the Apple online guide on how to do this. I've consolidated my library and everything seems to be in one place but when I get to part 2 step 4 (drag the my music folder over to the external hard drave) I get a message on my old laptop which says Cannot create or replace file : The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. The files don't seem to be either corrupted or unreadable because I can still play them all on my old PC. Any ideas?

  • Imovie transfer troubles.

How come when I created a movie in imovie on the ipad and transefered it to my laptop to burn a dvd, when I put the dvd in to play it on my 1080HDi t.v. the video was stretched too large and did not fit the screen, how do i fix this?

Yeah, I spent about three hours last night combing this board for solutions before posting; checked the iMovie preferences (and tried every conceivable variation of buttons, just to make sure), checked the midi setup--on my machine, I don't have any option but 44,100. Nothing seems to work.
Went so far as to trash iMovie and reinstall it off of the Panther install disks. Same problem.
Let me toss one other strange quirk into the mix, though not iMovie related, it could have roots in the same issue... I've got a training CD that came with Adobe CS2 which will not play audio, either. All the user interface sounds click, buzz, and ding appropriately, but the audio channel of the actual video itself does not. (Tech Support even sent me a replacement CD to see if that was the problem.) Yet, quicktime movies from the web play just fine.
    I'm definitely stymied here.

  • Post transfer trouble

I transferred my itunes to a hard drive. My songs all appear to be there but the personalized playlists I have spent so much time compiling have disappeared. They are still in my ipod but now I'm afraid to sync with the computer because I don't want them to be deleted. I guess my question is: does an ipod sync go both ways or will the computer think that I meant to dump all my old playlists and make me start over?

    My query is:
I want to connect my MB and Imac through Firewire...
I have connected them and used the holding T technique on restart.... But that turns the Macbook into a harddrive rather than a computer which i can play around on....!
How do i connect them through firewire, which will allow me to use both computers as normal, like a drag and drop basis....
    I think thats explained ok....
    Cheers me dears,
    remember the prize!

You need to use Firewire networking not Firewire Target Mode which is what you have already tried.
You need to go into the Network Preferences on both machines and turn on the Built-in Firewire network.

  • Palm and OS X 10.5

Before I go into all the transfer trouble. Does anybody have any experience in synchying PALM with Leopard? Is it worth setting up the necessary software? Thank you.

I upgraded to Leopard on Day-1, and have been syncing my Palm Tungsten T3 daily with Palm Desktop 4.2.1 without issue since then.
The Palm Desktop software is admittedly antiquated, which is not Apple's fault. It is our fault as Users for continuing to purchase Palm products without them actively supporting the Mac platform.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble with transfer from older LR and machine to LR5 on a newer computer

I have used LR1 for several years on an ancient Mac G4 so not a beginner but didn't find anyplace else to post a question.  If anyone cares to redirect me to the right place, I welcome that.
The library module has always been a mystery, I've always been groping in the dark.  In spite of that, I've processed a few thousand raw files and have always been comfortable with adding metadata, and working in the develop module, which is all that I need.
I have just acquired a fairly new MacPro, and downloaded a trial version of LR5.  But making the transition to the new machine is proving to be a barrier.  I think the issue has to do with LR5 not finding the correct path to the actual images, and I don't know enough to help it do that as efficiently as it could probably be accomplished.
Here's what I've done without trouble:
    1.  On the G4, made a copy of my LR catalog, and gave it a distinct name.
    2.  Formatted a new large HDD on the MacPro dedicated for image files (not the boot disk).
    3.  Copied my image files from the G4 to the new HDD in the MacPro.
    4.  Downloaded the LR5 trial version.
    5.  Moved the renamed LR catalog from the G4 to the Mac Pro.
    6.  Opened the catalog with LR5 on the MacPro and selected Library module.
LR5 had problems finding the right path to the images, as indicated by the icon shown in the grid on the upper right corner of the thumbnails - and by the absence of actual images which were instead just empty squares.  LR did properly show the HDDs on the MacPro, both the boot disk and the second disk dedicated to images, but the image folders were not listed within the one dedicated to these new images, even though that's where they were saved.  Farther down on the left panel LR5 showed my original jumble of folders, but listed them as being still located in the old HDD, as indicated by the name of that volume.  And of course there were the question marks, which I have grown to know and....uh, tolerate.
So the LR needed to know how to find the correct path. I didn't know how to direct it, and a LR savvy friend also was stumped also.  So I experimented.  Unsuccessfully.
I should explain what I mean by the "jumble" of folders:  On my G4 Mac, the actual heirarchy of folders from my hard drive never appeared in LR, it was just a list arranged alphabetically.  That was inconvenient, but I didn't know why that was happening and didn't know how to fix it.
I found that I was able to help LR5 locate the images by clicking the exclamation point icon, and that brought in the images with all the metadata and develop settings.  But I was only able to do that with one folder at a time, and given the number of folders, that was going to be a long and very tedious project.  I was sure there had to be a better way.
I made some progress using the contextual menu to "update folder location" but again that was just as tedious to do, it was working only one folder at a time.
I then selected one folder and clicked "synchronize folder" which located a much larger group of images and added them where they needed to be in the left panel within the correct new volume.  The bonus was that the proper folder heirarchy was included.  However that process did not bring along the metadata, ie, keywords and previous develop module settings, and that was a deal breaker, I don't want to lose that metadata in the transfer, and I'm sure I don't have to, I know LR is smarter than that.
My original image files, and the original catalog, are all still backed up on my old computer, so nothing is lost, it's just not being transferred properly.
What is the best choice now?  I have no problem with starting over with LR5 - deleting the renamed catalog and making another copy  on the old machine, moving it to the MacPro, and working with that.   If I do, how do I help LR5 find the right path to my existing images with metadata and develop settings, without the laborious process of doing it for every folder?
I'll be very grateful for any and all advice, thanks,
    Gary

    Jon,
What Julianne said at first about re-linking made perfect sense and I followed it easily, had actually already been there.  But in my situation now, it didn't have any effect.  The directory of folders which had already been added were still just as they were, and the outstanding balance are not in the desired position.  And the folders which had been brought in earlier today when I clicked "synchronize folder", were still missing all the metadata.
Maybe this means I need to start over, and I'm fine about doing that that, but I don't know what it takes to accomplish that.  I'm concerned now that any changes I make out of guesswork could only make the problem harder to resolve.  It just feels to me like something I did at the beginning just wasn't right, and now it's a tangle.
    Can you advise?
    Thanks,
    Gary
