Transfer tunes to new computer

I have a new computer and I need to transfer my tunes. How can I do this?
Using Windows XP and itunes for windows
imac G4

Theres afew ways depending on what you have at hand. You can follow tis link for transfering using your iPOd http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
You can use an external harddrive to copy the whole "My Music" folder in windows and then connect the external to the new PC and copy everything inside the "My Mucis" to the new "My Music" folder on the new PC.
You can burn "Data CDs/DVDs" of the my music folder to transfer them over (And in the process end up with backups on CD)
You can transfer over a wireless home network but not really recommended cuz wireless signals can be interferred with much like cell phones are

  • My daughters computer crashed, got new one. Trying to transfer ipod to new computer only does some of content tells me I need to aurtherize computer my wife shared itunes with daughter that ipod is gone now and dont have password.

Trying to transfer ipod to new computer. It is telling me to autharize computer. Had another ipod on same account, it gone now. Don't have password or any info about it. What do I do?

The password is for your iTunes account. Not for your old iPod. Enter your Email and password will give you access to all the music you bought from iTunes.  If you forget it then I dont know how to help you there guess your SOL.

  • Unable to transfer i=tunes to new computer

I have tried to transfer my i-tunes library to my new computer. I have been ollowing the instructions on the I-Tunes site, which tells me to connect the i-pod to the new computer and to clickon the i-pod device and then drag the i-tunes folder to the desk-top. However no -iTunes folder can be seen, even though all the tunes are on the -i-pod and can be played. The olnly folders that show are Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Recordings and a doc entitled -  .metadata_never_index.
    Where is the i-tuned folder?
I do not know if iot related to the problem, but the od computer never allow me to eject the i=pod and always tells me it "cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application"  even though no other applications are running - other than I-tunes

Thank you, but I have already used this guidance. That is what I was explaining. When I click on my device, the contents of my i-pod do not includde an i-tunes folder - only Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Recordings and a file extension .metadata_never_index. The guidance note you have directed me to does not say what to do when there is no I Tunes folder appearing, which is why I posed my question in the first place. Sorry, but no further forward

  • HT1473 transfer purchases to new computer?

my computer was stolen. The i-tunes acct my i-pod was registered to was on this computer. Why cant i transfer my purchases from my i-pod on to my new computer i-tunes acct?

Makes sure that the new computer is authorized, "Store>Authorize This Computer", then plug your iPod, "File>Transfer Purchases from iPod".
Or you can simply download through your purchased list.

  • Transfer songs to new computer

I just got a new PC as my old one *****, and my cd-r died.
How can i transfer the songs from ITunes to my new PC without the ability to burn a backup disc?

I'm having the same problem. I just bought a new computer and even though the songs are listed in the cannot transfer file, I can't transfer them. All I get is a message to "authorize this computer" which I've done several times. This computer is authorized, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to recognize the authorization. How can I get those tunes to transfer to my iTunes library. Plus, I've purchased new songs/videos on this new computer, but when I try and sync and put them on the iPod, it doesn't transfer. This is getting so frustrating.

  • Computer crash - how to use ipod to transfer songs to new computer?

DD's computer crashed last week - now has a new computer. We need to get songs from 20 G color/photo ipod onto new computer. Apple help pages only seem to give you options using your old computer to set ipod to transfer music. Can anyone direct us to information on getting ipod linked to new computer and transfering music over?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • I Tunes on new computer

I recently bought a new computer after the hard drive crashed on my old one. I lost everything including my music library and my I-Tunes download.
I downloaded I-Tunes on my new computer, but when I synch my I_pod it tells me that my I-Pod is already logged into a different computer and I can't be logged in to both. What should I do???

My old computer crashed so I can't connect it to my new one to transfer my songs. I plugged my ipod into the new comp before downloading itunes and I save my playlists onto it in My Music. Then I downloaded itunes and tried to transfer my music into my library. It says theres an error and the songs can't transfer. Also, the ipod's songs pop up when I click on the ipod but they're gray and I can't highlight, move, play, or acceses them in anyway. I reeaallly don't want to download my 800+ songs all over again so any tips will be appreciated!

I'm new to this Discussions Forum but I've notice so many people with the same problem as u...I guess I'll just post my solution here n hope it relieves some of everyone's headaches..
I've discovered a way to preserve my ipod songs n transfer it into my new computer. It took
me quite a while to figure it out so if it also work for u, please give credits where
    credit is due~ ^_^ MyMyMai
Follow these steps for Windows XP users:
    1) Go to "Start"
    2) Go to "Control Panel" n click on it.
    3) Click on "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices"
    4) Click on "Portable Media Devices", then a list of ur portable devices should pull up,
    including ur ipod.
    5) Click on ur ipod, then it should pull up folders named "Calendars" "Contacts" "Notes"
    "iPod_Control" n "Photos"
    6) Click on the "iPod_Control" folder, it should pull up several folders named "Artwork"
    "Device" "iTunes" n "Music"
    7) Click on the "Music" folder which would bring up several folders named "F00" "F01" "F02"
and so on and so forth.
    8) All you have to do is copy n paste ALL the folders onto ur new hard drive, like ur
    desktop or "My Music" folder.
    9) Open up ur new itune on ur new computer, go to "file", "add folder to library", and
click on ur "My Music" folder or each "F00" folders on ur desktop.
All the songs should transfer into ur new iTune library. Hope this helps!
