  • Msg: You've connected a new Blackberry device, it's been initializing device for over 1 hour

I had Blackberry Desktop Manager Ver 5.x installed. I downloaded the BlackBerry Desktop Software v6.1 software from the link saying that this download was to upgrade existing desktop manager. The installation completed without issues. After starting Version 6.1 for the first time and being asked to connect a blackberry device, I connected my brand new Blackberry Bold 9930. A new window opened that said "You've connected a new BlackBerry device" "Initializing device", and it's been hanging like that for nearly 2 hours. The main window shows the Blackberry correctly seen by model, type and pin and as never synced and never backed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bruce

Although this is advertised as an upgrade to Desktop Manager 5.x, it is really a replacement. It does not upgrade anything, but merely installs the new one. So the first thing you may want to make sure of is whether the old version is still on the computer. Go to your Control Panel on your computer and click Programs and Features. If you see any other BlackBerry Desktop Sfotware version beside the 6.1 then uninstall it. This other version could still be attempting to communicate with your device, causing this issue to occur. Make sure you reboot your computer after this is done. let me know if this helps or if you need any more help.

  • Hearing aid compatibility being ignored as new Blackberry devices are released...

I'm very disappointed in both Research in Motion and the cell phone carriers for making the newer Blackberry devices all M3 and  not M4/T4.
M4/T4 is the best hearing aid compatibility rating.  M3 is just average.
In the past, Blackberries have been M4/T4 rated and I've been very happy with the company for their support.
However, the newer models being released, including but not limited to the Curve 9700 and the Bold 9650 are all M3.
The Blackberry 8830 was M4/T4, then its successor, the Tour 9630 was M3, and sure enough the successor of that, the Bold 9650 is M3.
The Storm (both versions) devices are also M3.
I was researching the phones released by Blackberry; all new phones are M3.  None are M4.  However, if you are content with an older model, like the 8830 for example, they are still sold by the cell phone carriers.
The cell phone carriers work with RIM to determine how high the hearing aid compatibility rating should be.  Cheaper materials lead to lower ratings.  If the cell phone carriers and RIM used higher quality hardware, they could easily get the M4/T4 rating!
I've heard that the higher quality hardware really is not that much more.
These companies need to realize that M3 is not enough and that M4/T4 is the rating they should be striving for when developing phones!
I prefer newer models when I am eligible to upgrade because their onboard memory is often faster, their cameras are often better, and support for technology is better, etc.
So, I am just so disappointed that Blackberry has decided to back away from M4/T4 and offer M3!
This is unacceptable and both RIM and the carriers need to know this!
I have written my carrier to let them know about this.  Hopefully, the Blackberry devices will start being M4/T4 again, which they should be!

  • Calendar events missing in new ios7

updated my iPhone 4 to the new iOs 7 and my calendar events in the past are missing along with events that cannot be deleted.  Basically its crap, any help

It is gone from the desktop version of Calendar. If you are an iCloud user, it can be found in the Calendar Web App>Preferences>Advanced.

  • Shared iCloud calendar events not updating on shared devices

I had successfully set up a shared iCloud calendar with my friend which enabled us to edit and view the same calendar on our iPhones and iMacs.
Everything was working fine until a few days ago when it stopped working. When either one of us created new events, they wouldn't show up on the other person's calendar and when they seldomly did, not even an alert popped up like it used to which the person had to go under the invitations page and accept them.
What could possibly have gone wrong? We tried deleting the calendar then re-sharing but it stopped working very suddenly.

    Hi trenten7,
Here is an article that goes through troubleshooting iCloud calendars, including different steps for different devices:

I would start with troubleshooting the two Macs and then move on to the iPhones.

  • Tool Bar in New Blackberry Devices

    Hi...
I wonder Why Did Blackberry Remove the Tool Bar (Cursor, Option ,Dial & End Call Buttons ) in the new devices that have been released recently such Q10
which that Feature was A unique thing & it’s A Signature for Blackberry Devices Since the beginning of the Company like 9700,9790,9900
also it’s is very Important to me & the Other Users who like this Buttons Bar…I think
My Wish from blackberry that Re Use the Tool bar for the upcoming devices in the Future.
Please Press Like if you are with me in this...

Generally modern users want as much screen real estate as possible, making the screen a touch screen and moving these functions to that made it possible to have a compact phone with a moderately large screen suitable for browsing, playing games and viewing emails without excessive scrolling.
Who knows though, a reevaluation of what the USP is for BlackBerry may well see them return to putting these back in. Don't hold your breath though.

  • Calendar events created on the BlackBerry before first sync are not synced with iCal

    Hi all,
I’m helping my uncle regarding problems and requests he has about his BlackBerry Bold 9000. One request he had is to be able to synchronize the calendar with iCal (he has a Mac). I thought this was a simple task, but it eventually appeared to be a nightmare. I spent several hours before finally giving up.
    This is the situation:
His BlackBerry’s calendar is full of events (past and future). iCal is empty. We would simply like to see all his BlackBerry’s events in iCal. We’re using BlackBerry Desktop Manager (last version as of 2010-02-25).
The first synchronization didn't changed anything. Events created after that, either in iCal or on the BlackBerry, appeared correctly on the other side after re-syncing.
Searching in the Knowledge Base and on this forum, I found KB13330 and KB19621. Do you think it is linked to this last issue?
I made a backup of the BlackBerry before doing any testing, and started over everything several times. I even cleaned all iCal and SyncServices data (and also tested with a new empty account on his Mac), but it didn’t change anything.

I have not signed up for or used i-cloud and do not believe I've entered anything via i-could (at least not on purpose :-) ).  I either enter an event in the calendar (i-calendar version 6.8--came on the laptop) OR into the calendar program on the i-phone 5 and then sync--I expect the event to then show up in the proper location on both devices--this is the way it has worked flawlessly with the MacBook Pro and i-phone 4 for a long time.
The operating system of the laptop is: 10.8.4 and the iphone 5 is: 6.1.4.  I believe both are current; I frequently search for updates and install them regularly.
Thanks for your time to assist me.  Our tech "guy" is also stumped by this--a long time Apple product user and very knowledgeable "techie."

  • Declined calendar event still appears on iOS devices

If i remove certain days of a repeating event from Calendar (Mac OSX)...say for example a daily meeting...the event is deleted from those days in Calendar, however they still appear in my calendar on iOS.  The details now show that I have declined the meeting for those days, but it should really be removed from my calendar.  I can't find a setting anywhere that makes this possible.

    Upon further poking around --
In iCal on MacOS, under the "View" menu, there is an option to show or to hide declined events.  So I-- and I guess you and I think many people-- choose sensible to hide declined events.  (*Why do I want to fill my calendar with things I am not doing?)
But iOS does not offer this option; and iOS seems to default to "show declined events".  And for this reason, our iOS devices do not show the same content as our desktop devices.  And this makes it feel, from a user point of view, like it is broken -- because functionally, it is broken.
(*Note that this seems to be a fairly old issue: in addition to the links above, there are also posts on this topic going back to users of mobileme -- and none of the threads have any comment from Apple, which is disappointing as attention to usability is generally the distinguishing feature of their products...)

  • How to edit Calendar events?

If i am invited to an event i get an email with the .ics attachment. I add it to my calender and then accept the invite.
If the times are then changed i get another email with the new times on the email and a new .ics attachment.
The new .ics attachment on the email update still has the old times on it (and if the times were new i still cannot do anything with the attachment - there are no options to put it in my calendar).
I cannot edit the original calendar event to the new times.
I cannot delete the old event without declining it first.
Even if i could delete the old event with the old times i then have to make my own calendar event  (which then doesn't link in with the organisers event and doesn't show my attendance).
Why does my calender event not update automatically once the revised times have been emailed to me?
I have "shared calendar alerts" enabled but all it does is send me an email about modifications, i cannot edit the actual event anywhere.
Am i doing something wrong? have i missed something?
    Thanks

You don't say what it is you want to change, but if you simply want to consolidate:
Select a calendar in the list, choose file>export.
Select file>import, choose the file, and select the destination calendar. (The destination calendar can be one which you sync with Google Calendar.)
When you're happy all is where you want it, delete the original calendars.
As always, take a backup before you start - just in case!

  • Can't edit Google Calendar events in iCal

I am using Google Calendar's new CalDAV sync system and their "Calaboration" tool to sync my iCal (version 3.0.5, and I'm using Mac OS 10.5.2) with my Google Calendars, per the instructions on this page:
    http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358#ical
It seems to work ok in that I can now see my google calendar events in iCal. I can also add an event to that calendar in iCal, and it will sync to my google calendar. However, I can't seem to edit an event in iCal that was created on the Google Calendar web page. That is, all my events that I created in Google Calendar do indeed appear in iCal, but I can't edit them in iCal. I can edit events that I create for that calendar in iCal, but not ones I created in google calendar. Not a huge deal, but I was wondering if this is how it is supposed to work, because it seems a tad inconvenient.
(I do have my e-mail address in my address book "me" card, so that's not the problem.)

Yeah, I tried deleting the calendars in iCal and re-synching to them via Calaboration, but the same problem persisted.
I did find the solution after a bit of experimenting, though. To solve it, I basically created a new calendar on Google Calendar, imported all my events from my old google calendar into it, then used Calaboration to sync iCal to the new Google calendar, and now I can edit events in iCal and GCal without problems. I don't actually know what the problem WAS, but this seems to have solved it. Maybe I made my original Google Calendar too long ago and it had some old bad settings I couldn't see? I dunno, but it doesn't matter now.
For those who might have this same problem, here's how I transferred my old Google Calendar events into a new Google Calendar without losing anything: (You actually don't need to delete your old Google Calendar at all if you don't want to, so there's no reason to worry about losing your events.)
    1. In GCal, click the "settings" link at the top right of the web page. Then select the "Calendars" tab. Click the "Export My Calendars" link, which should be under your list of calendars, next to the cancel button. This will download a .zip file to your computer, containing all of your google calendars as individual .ics files. Go ahead and unzip them so that the .ics file for the calendar you want to duplicate is sitting in a folder somewhere on your computer.
    2. Now In GCal, click on the "Create" link on the lower righthand side of the "My Calendars" box, which is on the lefthand side of the screen.
    3. Create a new blank calendar and name it whatever you want. This is the blank calendar into which you will import your old calendar's events.
    4. Now, in GCal, click "Add" at the bottom right of the "Other Calendars" box, which is under the "My Calendars" box on the left side of the web page.
    5. Select "Import Calendar".
    6. Click "Choose File" and browse to the .ics file you want to duplicate on your computer.
    7. In the "Choose Calendar" pull-down menu, select the new, blank calendar you made in step 3.
    8. Click Import. This may take a few minutes, depending on the number of events you have in your .ics calendar file.
    9. Once it's done, look at the calendar to make sure your events all came into your new Google Calendar ok. It should look exactly like the original google calendar, but it will be a different color.
    10. NOW, use Calaboration to sync your iCal to the New Calendar you just made in Google Calendar.
    11. Once it's done synching, you should be able to edit events in the calendar in iCal.

  • ICloud not syncing Contacts or Calendar events on iOS 5 devices after MobileMe migration

On either of my devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) I cannot get my contacts or calendar events to appear correctly, both devices crash the contacts or calendars apps when I access them.
I first upgraded to ios5 and iTunes 10.5 (Which bricked my iPhone 5 times in a row with error 3012)
I then migrated from MobileMe to iCloud and all of my Contacts/Calendars are appearing correctly online at iCloud.com.  However my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 will simply refuse to sync with the contacts and calendars...
My iPhone and iPad literally freeze when I try disable the iCloud services, I have restored both devices numberous times and started the iCloud service in MANY different steps.  I have even used both my mac and PC to restore my devices.
I have been trying to fix this for two days now, I am extremely disapointed with iCloud, and I sorely wished I had of stayed with my MobileMe service.  I initally thought this would be server contact issues, but there HAS to be something wrong with my devices, or sync services.
Surely other users have encounted this error, I would love to know the strategies used to resolve this.

I thought I might post here and update my solution thus far..
    1. Restored my iPhone 4 and iPad 2, and did not select iCloud.
    2. iCloud working fine on the macbook pro, so I exported my contacts from iCloud to the vCards.
    3. Turned icloud contacts off on my macbook pro (iCloud calendars remained on)
    4. Synced iPhone 4 and iPad 2 with my macbook pro
    5. now my iOS 5 devices sync my contacts and calendar locally with my macbook pro
    6. Turned on iCloud only for my email, notes and documents.
Word to the wise: Stay clear of iCloud, WAY too many issues, especially for MobileMe migration customers.

  • Is there some up-to-date BB-authorized page that tells you exactly where you can officially purchase a new BB device?

    Good evening Device Support Forum.
I am trying to purchase a Q5 from an authorized carrier in Canada (ON, Canada). I don't have 5 years to devote to trying to correlate where I can buy the BB device that I want.
I tried hitting up: http://ca.blackberry.com/smartphones however the information is sadly not up-to-date.
This is my third attempt at trying to purchase a BlackBerry. It's getting tedious.
My question: (same as the Subject line) is:
Q> Is there some url that tells me exactly where I can officially purchase a new BB device?
    1. I don't want a refurbished BlackBerry device that is being pawned off as a new BlackBerry device where I am asked to pay the price of a new BlackBerry device.
    2. I don't want a BlackBerry device that does not come with a service warranty.
    3. I do want a fresh BlackBerry device that comes with a carrier service warranty.
I would have liked to purchase a Q5 - it seems an impossible task since an official device doesn't seem to exist here in Ontario.
Note: Choosing the Q5 only because it is lighter to hold.
    Before anyone suggests:
    - I would have preferred the BB Classic but it's not possible to try one here.
    - The Z30 is too heavy.
    - Tried the Passport and it's heavy and too complex to navigate.
Upfront thanks for your time and any leads,
    TreenaL

Here is my view. You always start with the carrier. What is best for you where you live, work, and play?
If you are set on buying the device from the carrier, then hopefully they sell BlackBerry, and sell the model you want. That was no longer the case for me, which led me to buy unlocked, unbranded (from Shop BlackBerry).
It doesn't take a huge investment in time to figure out what models (or sub-models) will work on your carrier. Google is your friend. Someone, in fact several people will have already done this for you.
As far as warranty, in almost all instances with Blackberry the warranty is handled by the seller. See http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Welcome-Introductions/How-Formal-Support-Works/td-p/2540533
