Transfering a folio to another designer

Hi Bob, i have 2 magazine created with CS6 only landscape layout.
I have to send it to another graphich designer.
Can i send it a zipped folder (alla packages and also sidecar.xml) for import it in his folio builder?
Or is it better that i rename every file withname_h?

You can send a zipped folder along with a sidecar.xml file, but unless you've named the files according to the multiple article import guidelines the other designer won't be able to import it. How do I stop my Macbook Air from transferring your information from another computer?

Just purchased my Macbook Air. When I started it up, it asked if I wanted to tranfer information from my other computer. the first thing it started to download was the music and it suddenly froze when it had a 1hr and 46 mins left and now I can escape out of it. It is the only thing that is on my screen. I ended the transfer on my PC but it wont clear out on my Macbook Air. Is there a way to restart the computer so it will retry the tranfer without the music?

Instead of transferring your files from another computer through the network, copy your data from your old PC or Mac to an external drive, connect the external drive to your MacBook Air and transfer your files

Is it possible to link from a folio to another (precisions inside) ?

m'kay, dunno if I'll use this "you didn't hear it from me" feature, cause i got to link 80 articles in 3 folios (each time), and i'd beter find a solution that works everytime.
Means, gotta put all this in a single folio. WIll be a mess, but i got to have to have it working in the end ...
Still, I wonder why it is so hard to have "basic links" like "navto://folioname1:article2" ?
Especially in cases (like this one, actually) where i'm the only one to use this on my content viewer and in my folio producer (but in all case would be even better of course).

Are the songs authorised to the same account?
Often people change their e-mail address over time, and also decide to set up new iTunes account names using that e-mail. You can (and should) continue to use an old e-mail address as your account name. Then you don't run into the issue of having different songs authorised to different accounts.
To check the authorised account for the song, click "Get info" on the song name in iTunes. It will show the account name in the Summary panel.
If you have set up multiple accounts, log into each one, and burn the songs to CD as audio tracks (i.e. like a normal CD, not a data CD). You can then re-import the files into iTunes without the authorisation embedded into the song.

Adjusting scans for another designer's project

To save time, another designer wants me to adjust the scans/photos (b&w) in a book she's working on. Need to figure out the best workflow for that. We don't work in the same place. She has most of the rough scans placed. We both work with CS4.
I'm thinking I'll need her document(s) and the linked scans, so that I can then use the links palette go back and forth from InD to PS where I'll adjust, size, etc, and finally sharpen. I've done a lot of this work for myself, but need to figure out the best scenario for working with another person. Presumably she will continue working on the document, but the images won't change size. I guess she'd relink to the new images I return to her.

All you really need are the images, the destination profile desired and the final sizes. She can relink to a folder of images you return without any hassle. You might want a PDF just so you can see the layout.

The Folio Builder panel, design-wise...

Part of my job is to teach routined InDesign users how to build Folio's. Most of them do quite well, after their initial confusion with the Interaction panels ("which do and which don't work with ADPS"). But the panel they fear most, is definitely the Folio Builder. Not even because of its casual malfunctioning (that's my nightmare as a trainer), but mainly because of its design and cosmetics. The panel sports a well-know and trusted appearance, but it's a devil in disguise.
It begins with logging-in. "No, you can't click the bull's-eye, it's just a mysterious indicator." It would be much more obvious if it looked like a led (red or green) or if it had some useful interaction to it - letting you log in/out perhaps...
Next, the three-tiered views are not clear enough. When I show them the image below, and tell them how their workflow moves from left to right and from right to left (from "Account" to "Folio" to "Article" to "Layout" and v.v.) they immediately 'get it'. And after warning them that the navigational elements on top of the panel are quite clueless (what to hit, to go where to), and that you're often thrown back from Layout to Folio (skipping Article), they're in charge and on guard. Finally, I tell them that the "New" button magically changes its functionality in each level ("wait for the pop-up!"). It is highly unusual that a side menu shows and hides certain commands in each level. It should list ALL associated commands, and show momentarily unavailable ones grayed out.
This all wouldn't be necessary if the panel would be a bit more self-explanatory. I hope this rant helps to improve its design.

Transferring iTunes Library to another system, from a Time Machine backup
I have a large iTunes library that is backed up via Time Machine on an external drive. I would like to hook up that drive to another mac and just transfer the music that is saved in the backup. I don't want to restore anything else, simply transfer the whole iTunes library. Is this possible? If not, what is the best way to do something like this?

You should be able to restore iTunes and iPhoto files if the Lion system was running the same version of those applications that you'll have on the Snow Leopard system. However, you won't be able to restore files for applications like Mail, Address Book, or Safari, as the versions of those won't match.

Link one folio to another folio

Mass transfering of assets into another depreciation book

Hi All
Please clarify my below query.
when an asset was initially capitalized in the wrong asset class. Asset master in the correct asset class should first be created and thereafter the values will be transferred via the transfer within company code function in the Fixed Assets module.
For example, 10 units of laptop were initially capitalized in one asset master with IT cost centre. If 5 units of the laptop need to be transferred to Finance cost centre, a new asset master in the same asset class will be created and partial transfer will be carried out for 5 units to the new asset master.
1. is it possible to mass transfering of assets into another depreciation book if yes.
please provide me the necessary steps to do the above activities.

Hi,
It seems like you have an asset, with 10 Qty in an asset master.
Try to do asset partial transfer with ABUMN for 5 qty.

Itunes not recognising my library even though I transferred my library from another mac

Hello. Transferring over to an MBA from a MBP. I followed the instructions and copied the itunes folder from my MBP (itunes 11.1.1) to an external hard drive after consolidating it.
On my MBA I removed the itunes folder it came with and replaced it with the folder from my external hard drive (itunes 11.0.3). However, iTunes is not recognising any of the music! I really want to import all my ratings and playlists so am keen for this to work.
I've done it before and it worked just fine. What am I doing wrong?

Oh, yeah, it is confusing. The Purchased option on the Sidebar only shows purchases actually made on the computer you are using at the time you click on the Purchased option. The Purchased option under Quick Links shows you all purchases made under the Apple ID that is signed on.
I wish they would change the name of one or the other so they would be distinctive from one another - even Purchased vs. Purchases would be better than using the exact same word!

Hi, I have two ipod video on my hands: one i have been using for past year or so, the other one is still unopened brand new. Both 30gb. Just wondering if it's possible to somehow have everything i have on the old ipod transffered to the new one.
I see that songs are all named "ABCD" in ipod...if i copied all those folders onto the new one, will it still have the same song names and information adn favourites as the old one?

So the music is no longer in your iTunes library? If it were, it would simply be a matter of connecting the new iPod and transferring it from your library.
You need to get the music from the old iPod to iTunes. Read on.
First of all try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This is a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Transfering from Win8 to another Win8 machine

I've been trying to transfer from my old PC to my new one with Easy Transfer. It works fine with my new one, but with my old one it only will ask me if I've already saved my files, as if my old PC is the one I'm transferring to. My old PC was a windows
7 machine that was updated to 8 if that means anything.

What iOS version are you on ? If 5+ then as I said, you can do it directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update.
If you are on iOS 4 then you will need to connect to your computer's iTunes and transfer purchases and do a backup - updating to iOS 5+ from 4 or below will backup up the iPad, wipe the iPad, install iOS 5.1, and restore your backup and iTunes media content (if you don't transfer purchases and backup then that content will no longer be on the iPad after the update).
