Transfering album art

Hey. I got a new laptop and moved my itunes folder from my old computer to the new one. they are both windows xp. the music works on the new computer, but the thing is, the album art did not seem to transfer. the folder transfered fine, but album art shows blank when playing songs. all the album art i have, i manually added by copying from sources and pasting into the "info" section of each music file.
any suggestions on how to successfully transfer album art with the music? thanks

After much research, I have found out that iTunes 7 does not write the album art to the id3 tag of the song. So basically what I had to do was go through each album, highlight the songs for that album, view info, and copy the album art into the field in the info tag. Then iTunes forces the write to the id3 tag.
Really wish they would change that so that when album artwork is downloaded or added, it was added to the id3 tag automatically. Hopefully in the future.

  • Transferring Album Art from a Mac to a Windows PC

I have iTunes on both my Mac and Windows PC- with the same library on both.
I found a great utility called Curator that found all my missing album art on the Mac, but it only works on the Mac, not the PC
So after spending a day finding all my missing album art on the Mac, I thought that simply copying the Album Art folder from my Mac to my Windows PC would enable me see all my art on my windows machine.
This did not work. I still have the same missing album covers.
I tried removing all Album Art from my PC (by selecting "Clear Downloaded Artwork" and then I selected all my music and chose "Get Album Artwork".
This put back all my original album art but none of the new artwork downloaded by Curator.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes to see all the Album Art in the Album art folder that I just copied from my Mac?

Diane is correct — the artwork you downloaded is embedded in the music files, so the only way to transfer the art is by transferring the files. Is there a reason you don't want to just copy your entire iTunes library from the Mac to the PC?
I don't know why dragging the artwork into the artwork box would result in a lower-quality image. What do you see when you click on the artwork box to open a full-size version? Is the picture 300x300 or better?

  • Transferring Album Art to a New Computer/OS

I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer to this question:
How do I transfer my album art from one computer to another? The source computer is running Windows XP SP2, and the target computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium. I've been able to transfer everything else (playlists, ratings, etc.), but not the album art.

Try this on teh old computer.
Copy the iTunes folder to the external
Restart iTunes holding the Shift key.
    Select Choose existing library.
Select the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder you just moved.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Tick Copy files to iTunes music folder when Adding to library.
Tick Keep iTunes music folder organized.
Go to menu Advanced -> Consolidate library.
This will copy everything into external drive\iTunes\iTunes music folder.
Now you can copy this folder to the new computer.
Or if you wan tot keep it on the external, simply connect it to the new computer and
Start iTunes holding the Shift key.
    Select Choose existing library.
Select the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder on the external.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Tick Copy files to iTunes music folder when Adding to library.
Tick Keep iTunes music folder organized.
iTunes will use this for everything from now on..

  • How do you transfer album art to the Zen Vision

Quite a lot of my tracks have album art associated with them. If I transfer these tracks to my Zen Vision M, will the album art transfer automatically also? If not, how to I go about transferring album art? The album art does not appear as separate files in My Pictures, it seems to be embedded in the WMAs......

Thanks for posts. The MediaExplorer way mentioned did not work for me either. So far it looks like Windows Media Player will transfer album art automatically when you copy music to your player using the 'sync' function, but I have yet to try this out. This would probably be the easiest way for most people, but remember to create your subfolders for your music first and transfer the track to the relevant one, as stuff can't bee moved around between folders once it's on your player (so annoying).

  • I transfered videos from iPod to iTunes on Windows 7 PC but album art won't show up, even when I choose to find album art

I just installed iTunes 64 bit on my PC with Windows 7. I transfered my movies from my iPod Classic but no album art on any of them. I even try to find album art but nothing. I've downlaoded a couple of music albums onto same PC that I downloaded previously on iPad and they have art but not the videos I just transferred from iPod. I also can't play any of them on PC. I keep getting the no Quicktime message even though I downloaded QT. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, except I dont have itunes match enabled.
I synced my ipad and unchecked all my albums to remove them. Then I re-synced with the albums selected. They went back on WITH the artwork under 'artists' but then for some reason the next time I sync, some of the artwork under 'artists' is gone leaving only a music note for the cover.
It also has nothing to do with the cloud backup as I have experienced this with both backing up to the cloud and to my mac.
    strange.......

  • Album art not transferring

Gday, I am trying to get album art onto my 4th gen nano. I have an 8 gig nano, and about 11gig of music, so i transferred as many songs as i could onto my nano. Then tried to get album art onto the nano (Advanced > get album art). It reckons it has got all the album art possible, yet there is no more than before... I know that there is more because it retrieved far more album art (for the same artist / album) when i did the same on my entire library. Please help its quickly giving me the s#..
    Cheers
    smokes

Actually, all my album artwork was added in itunes prior to me even owning the ipod so all my artwork was in place before the initial copy of my music to my ipod. Another issue is when I browse through my music via the horizontal album cover scroll and I choose a album and song to play, when I rotate my ipod vertically, sometimes the album artwork that is supposed to fill the screen in the center as the song plays disappears and I again get the ?, even though the artwork is physically there. If I rotate it back horizontally, it's still missing until I thumb through a couple album covers then it pops back in.

  • Album art not transferring to N85

It's a small problem but kind of a nuisance. I don't understand why, when I transfer music to my N85, the album art is not transferred with it.
I do it using sync from windows media player 11.
    Any solutions, anyone?

  • How is album art transferred to portable device in iTunes

I have a few questions regarding album art using iTunes.
How does iTunes retrieve album art? (Does it get it from some online database?)
Can iTunes be used to transfer album art to portable devices?
Where is album art stored on the portable device?
Are there any resources for learning about how iTunes provides album art to portable devices?
    Thanks!

One possible thing is that the album art JPEG's are being embedded into the ID3 tags on the songs. Is that how album art is transferred to the player?

  • Album art added by myself not transferring from iTunes to iPod

Hi. I just synced my library to my new iPod and everything is working fine except for some album art issues. The album art that is added by right-clicking in iTunes and choosing 'Get Album Artwork' copies across fine, it's the album art I've added myself that doesn't copy over (where album art would be displayed I just see a large blue musical note.)
I don't know much about iPods, this is my first one, so following the advice of a friend I've restored the iPod then re-synched it and that hasn't fixed it.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Sometimes you have to make sure that each individual song has the artwork attached to it, rather than the album as a whole. Try that on one album to see if it works. In iTunes, right click on a few songs (one at a time) in the albums that are giving you trouble and verify that the artwork is attached to them.
Also, I've noticed on the new Nanos that you sometimes have to first delete a troublesome album from the Nano, then replace it--unlike earlier iPods (or it might be earlier versions of iTunes) which would actually update that information when you sync.

  • Album art not transfering from iTunes to iPod

Manually managing my ipod. When copying songs over to the iPod, only about half of the album art that is in my iTunes shows up on the iPod. I deleted all of the music from my 160 and copied it over again to see if it would fix the problem but nothing changed. Some album art comes over, some does not.

Are you auto-syncing the iPod? If so, when you add artwork to songs in your library the songs should be replaced by iTunes on your next sync. If not, you can force a new copy on your iPod by (a) set your iPod to sync only checked items, (b) un-checking the problem items, (c) re-sync your iPod, (d) re-check the problem items, and (e) re-sync again. But this process should not be necessary if you're on auto-sync -- any tag changes should automatically trigger a replacement of the updated song on your iPod.
If you're manually managing your iPod, if you update songs in your library the updates will not automatically transfer to your iPod. To do that, you should delete the songs from your iPod which have been updated with artwork in iTunes, then add the updated copies from iTunes back to your iPod.

  • Album art not transferring to nano!

I just took this 4gb nano out of the box, and I can't get my album art to be displayed while any song is being played. I have checked the box in itunes to "display album artwork on your ipod", but the art is still nowhere to be found. The art is on the library music, and the list for my ipod on itunes says the art is there, but it just isn't there when you actually play a song on the ipod's screen. I'm in desperate need of help.

I had this same problem with my 60gb iPod colour. Try turning the album art off in your iPod settings. This will delete all the album art. After that, turn the album art back on on the iPod from settings. This worked for a while with me, then the problem re-occured. I eventually returned it and got a fresh one. But, i've got friends who this procedure worked seemlessly for. hope this helps, sorry if it doesn't

  • Album Art from Zune isn't transferred to iTunes?

Essentially, I use Zune for all of my Album Art management since I can go through and get the specific cover art I want, and can use foreign cover art and so on. The only issue is, Zune Artwork wont show up on iTunes. I'm a recent newcomer to the "i" scene after passing up a Zune for the Touch (love it btw) other than that, my only MP3 player has been from the family of PSP systems haha.
In any case, all I want is a full and lush coverflow; something I already have on the Zune Player, now if only that can be moved/carried over to iTunes.

Isn't the file name for the jpg always the same (e.g. "Folder.jpg")? If so, you can use this program:
    http://mp3tag.de/en/index.html
Select the folder with all your songs. Select all the songs in the list, then hit SHIFTALT5 and select "Import cover from file" and click OK. Type the file name (Folder.jpg) and click OK. It will automatically embed the artwork.

  • No album art on my Purchased songs after I got the new iTunes 10

uggh... iTunes always does the worst things to me...
This all started yesterday when I decided I would treat myself in trying to get the new 4.2 software on my iPod Touch. To prepare for the update, I backed up my iPod a couple times to make sure I wouldn't lose anything. I went to get the update, and I got a pop up saying I needed to transfer my Purchases. I didn't really see the point in this, but I did it, just to find all my Purchased songs off of my iPod and only stored on my computer. I had to wait awhile to get those back onto my iPod (I don't even know why they were taken off in the first place!), and when I went back to the Music library on my iPod I had no album art on my purchased songs. On iTunes, it shows the pictures on there just fine! Even on landscape, the picture is just that stupid gray music note that taunts me in my dreams... ok maybe that's exaggerating a bit... or not really...
anyways, I'm pretty mad about all this and I've had it with iTunes doing crap to my iPod that even GOOGLE can't help me with! (hence the purpose of me joining this forum: try searching "no album art purchased" in Google. Nothing!) I mean I guess I could go onto Google Images and download EVERY SINGLE cover art again, and manually put them onto "Get Info", but I have like 60 Purchased songs! I don't want to go through that only to find that it made absolutely no difference.
Anyone else got this problem or have any idea why it's happening to me?!
watch it be something as simple as a unchecked box in Preferences...
btw, sorry for how lengthy this got... haha

The iOS 4.2.1 seems to have corrupted the artwork database on your Touch. I had some artwork issues too, but the solution is to simply Restore the iPod and re-load your last backup. Of course, make sure that everything on your iPod is also in your iTunes library (which is why your purchases were transferred before the OS update).

  • Album art not being synced correctly

I used an external tagging program to embed album art into all my song files. They show up correctly in iTunes when selected or playing, but they do not, in all cases, sync to the iPod. However, I have found that if I go to an album that has art in iTunes and does not sync to the iPod, and play each track just for an instant, and resync, the art transfers. What's weird is that it's not consistently NOT showing up on the iPod... and I certainly don't want to have to hunt down every piece of music with art that doesn't sync to the iPod and play that song. Is there a way to make iTunes refresh the library without deleting the database? I don't use iTunes to manage my physical music files.

Thank You, now I can see the art work when I play the songs in itunes but now when I play a song on my ipod it doesnt display the artwork with the title on the ipod itself.
    I've tried everything.
    Thank you for your help!
