Transfering albums to another computer

I am getting a new computer and will upgrade to Photoshop 11 and will need to move my exsisting albums to my new computer. I have multiple catalogs and will not be able to use the backup/synchronization feature. My pic files are on an external drive. How do I move the albums?

  • How do i share a photo album with another computer

I have edited a photo album that I wish to share with another computer in my network.  How do I import the album?

If you want to share them as an album the only way to do this is to use  iPhoto Library Manager
Using this will also preserve versions and all metadata
Alternatively you can simply export to a folder (File -> Export) and then import to the other Library. If you drag the folder to the Album heading it will create an Album for you. You can get almost all metadata (but not Faces) this way if you export to jpeg, but you won't get versions.

  • Is it possible for me to transfer a purchased album to another computer

I purchased an album on my mom's computer and can't burn cds on this computer. I would really like to transfer it to itunes on my computer but have had no success. I tried opening my account on my computer right after purchasing the album but I was unable to recieve the album without paying for it again. I have an iPod nano 16GB. Does anyone know how to transfer it??

Well, when it comes to transferring purchased music, you'll have to move it either by CD (which you said you can't) so then via a flash drive, external hard drive, or even over e-mail or an IM service.
However you get the files from computer A to computer B is up to you. However, you will the need to AUTHORIZE Computer B to play your account's music. The account which you use to buy music can be authorized on up to a total of 5 computers.
I'm assuming you already have 1 authorization, the computer you use yourself. So then if you have remaining authorizations, play the files on the other computer, and it will ask for your accounts password, so it can be authorized to play your music.
But, theres no way to download your purchased music on a new computer via iTunes, unless you contact support because of something like a download that never worked, which is not your case.

  • Transfering library to another computer !! Help Help Help !!!!

I Just got a Labtop and i went to transfer my songs from one computer to another i only about half of them loaded up i have like 1800 songs and only 830 loaded an those were the ones i downloaded offline but im pretty sure the ones that didnt transfer over where the ones that i loaded with cd's is there any way i can just got all those itunes songs and like put them on my labtop PLEASE PLEASE HELP !!!

"I'm somewhat new to my iPod and have to ask, what will doing what you suggest accomplish?"
I suspect that you viewed the video tutorial, all the steps I have talked about are to be found in the link above which is that text version. By carry out these actions prior to the move you ensure that all of your music is in the iTunes music folder and that the library is directed to that location. When you make the move to the new computer you are therefore taking the folder, the library with it's correct settings and the music over. When you move the folder to the new computer make sure you put it into the same location it was on the old one. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this would be in Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Music/. The final path when you've done should look like this: Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music

  • Transfering iPhoto to Another Computer

I need to transfer my entire iPhoto application file to my Macbook Pro. My other computer that the iPhoto is on is a G4 Quicksilver with OS 10.3.9. I believe that this can be done using the Firewire, right? Thanks to who replies!
    Kevin

What you can use is *iPhoto Library Manager*, available as a free download.
I don't know what OS your MacBook is running, but iPhoto Library Manager can allow Leopard's iPhoto 08 to import libraries from even iPhoto 2 created in OS 10.3.9.
*_Warning though_*: Make a backup copy of the old Photo Library first as the new iPhoto will convert them to a new format to use.
I have successfully imported several old G4 iPhoto 2 libraries into intel iPhoto 08 using the iPhoto Library Manager as intermediary.
Whether you use firewire in target disk mode, or connect the two computers together over ethernet, is not crucial. Just as long as the old Photo Library can be accessed is what matters. The old iPhoto Library, found in the Pictures folder can even be copied intact, to an external volume and pulled in from there.

  • Transfering info from another computer at startup.

I have a problem. At the initial startup Tiger asked me whether I wanted to transfer information from an older Mac to my new Mac. I opted for no, and went ahead and created a new administrator. Now I realize I should have transfered my info from the older machine after all. Is it possible to go back, to that start up page and transfer all my info and settings from my old machine. I realize this means deleting the administrator I just created but I'm not even sure how to do that. Can someone please help. Thanks,
    Dana

You can run Migration Assistant. Utilities>Migration Assistant. However, if you are going from a PPC to an Intel you are going to migrate files that are not compatible with your new Mac. Therefore, follow the instructions in the link in my first post and you will be better off.

  • Transferring LR to another computer

I purchased and downloaded Lightroom 4 onto my computer in February 2013.  I actually never used it - slowly learning how to use it.  However, that computer has since crashed - it no longer works.  How do I get my copy of Lightroom onto my new computer?

install it on your new computer using the installation file.  activate it with your serial number.
if you need the installation file and if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-lightroom-4-is-out.html
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • Transfering library to another computer

Just got a new mac with snow leopard and iphoto 09, is it safe to import my iphoto 08 library to the new mac and still keep it on the old machine as well? I have some galleries I don't want to lose.

Just deleting the library that created the galleries should not remove the photos from the gallery. It's deleting photos from the library that created them and syncing, manually or automatically, that will remove the online photos.
But I would run a confirmation test. Before deleting the unwanted library open the new library on its computer and check out the galleries. Visit them several times thru iPhoto and via their URL to make sure the photos are still there. When you're satisfied then delete the old library.

  • Transferring itunes to another computer with another account already on it

    Hi all,
So I know this has probably been asked hundreds of times but I thought that I wanted to get a personal response to my situation.
Basically, the current setup for my wife and I is that we both have separate windows laptops, with itunes and separate itunes accounts on. However, we are getting rid of my wifes laptop and she is getting an iPad for what little 'work' she uses the laptop for, and then we have always got the one laptop anyway. However, we waqnt to keep separate Itunes accounts as her taste in music is not like mine, and I don't want namby pamby pop music on my account at the risk of accidently loading it on my iPod!
Therefore, what I want to know is:
    1) How can I remove all of the music from the wifes laptop and transfer it on to my laptop, but wanting to keep it in a separate iTunes Music folder,
    and
    2) Is it possible to have one iTunes on the computer but have different accounts on it?
I am hoping that it is possible for this so that if I open up itunes and access my account it ony shows my music, and visa versa.
Many thanks in advance for any responses and help that you can give,
    Regards,
    Richard

  • Buying songs on one computer and transferring them to another computer

I have a couple of computers with iTunes 7.0 loaded and authorized for use. Can I make purchases on any of the computers and sync my ipod to get the new download and then download the new stuff to my other libraries?
    If yes, HOW?

  • HT2518 what happens if i abort transferring files to another computer?

I am considering stopping the transfer of files to my new macbook from my imac. should i do this?

Were you copying an entire disk?  If so you could use DU to erase the entire drive.  This is the fastest way to erase an entire drive.
But if you were just dragging selected files and folders to the destination and have stuff on the destination you need to keep, then you cannot erase the entire drive.  You have to toss it in the trash.  And if it's a large number of files it could take quite a long time.
There are faster ways to delete large numbers of files.  But that involves terminal so I won't post it in this context.

  • IPhoto '08: How can I copy an album or slide show to another computer?

    Hi,
I want to take a slideshow of a trip that I put music to and move it from my iBook to my new iMac so I can use iDVD to make a DVD of the slideshow (since I can't burn DVDs on my iBook). I have TONS of pictures from this trip, so it would really be a pain to cull through them again, even though all of the photos are on both computers.
Is there any way to copy a slide show (or an iPhoto album) to another computer via an external hard drive? I looked in the iPhoto Help and couldn't find anything on the subject.
Thanks for any advice! I promised some tripmates I would send them a DVD of my photos back in October, so I'm starting to feel guilty!
    Karin

    Karin:
Here is one way to create the DVD:
1 - on your iBook with the slideshow ready to do use the Share->Send to iDVD menu option.
2 - once the slideshow is compiled into a Quicktime movie and is exported to iDVD, quit iDVD without saving.
3 - look inside your Movies folder for the QT movie that was just created.
4 - copy that movie file to your iMac.
5 - open iDVD on your iMac, select a theme and add a slideshow to the menu window with the "+" button at the bottom.
6 - open the slideshow editing window by double clicking on the slideshow button or text in the menu.
7 - drag the QT movie into the slideshow window on the left. This will let iDVD scale the QT movie to the TV safe area so non of the movie is lost to the TV overscan that will occur if the movie is added directly to the menu.
8 - once the iDVD project is ready use the File->Save as Disk Image to save the project as a disk image. This allows you to mount the disk image and play it with DVD Player to confirm that the encoding went as it should and there are no typos in the menu or title (my biggest error).
9 - when ready to burn use Disk Utility to burn, at the slowest speed possible, to a DVD-R disk.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • HT1414 is it possible to update your ipad without backing it up or transferring purchases when using another computer

Is it possible to update your ipad 2 to the latest software without backing it up or transferring purchases to another computer other then your own?

What iOS version are you on ? If 5+ then as I said, you can do it directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update.
If you are on iOS 4 then you will need to connect to your computer's iTunes and transfer purchases and do a backup - updating to iOS 5+ from 4 or below will backup up the iPad, wipe the iPad, install iOS 5.1, and restore your backup and iTunes media content (if you don't transfer purchases and backup then that content will no longer be on the iPad after the update). Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972

  • Relatively new to Ipods- can itunes be transfered to another computer without loosing  list?

Is there a way to save my music collection when transfering itunes to another computer?  Not excited about loosing many hours of uploading a relatively large collection again. Computer that music was downloaded is having hard drive problems and would like to get collection to another. Help

If you haven't done so, backup your iTunes media to an external drive or burn to CD's...
If you import the iTunes library to a another computer, do this first.
On the new computer, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer. That way you'll be able to play your music.
