Transfering all tags and images from one computer to another

I know this question has been answered before, but my problem is slightly different.
I had all my photos on my computer (TAGGED), unfortunetaly I then got a virus, I immediately created a back-up and burnt all the photos to c.d. using the burn to c.d. feature.
On the c.d. there is a file called filelist.xml with all my photos. When I load up the file filelist.xml, is list all my images as well has the tags, but my problem is restore it back to photo shop, I can add the photos back to the catalogue, but the tags don't come with, does anyone know how I can use the filelist.xml and restore the tags
Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,
When you back up your files, can you confirm the version that you used.
This version is a "light" version and does not provide the ability to
back. For this function, I would recommend you either look at the full
version of Photoshop Elements or a thirty party back up tool.
To you next comment... how are you trying to restore?
Thanks

  • I transferred all of my music from one computer to another and I can no longer access my old music

I transferred all of my itunes on to an external hard drive then downloaded that to my new computer.  I can't play any music on the new computer that was downloaded on my old computer and it won't load onto my ipod (which was completely erased while trying to download the new music)

    How did you move it?
Did you authorize the new computer for the Apple ID that the content was acquired with?

  • How do I transfer all music and videos from one computer to another?

I need to transfer my music and videos that are in itunes from my laptop to my new desktop, and I dont want to lose anything because when I update my ipod it will be takin off, right? Please tell me how I go about doing this, thanks a bunch!!

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the to computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

Also If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to iTunes on a different computer. Change the setting before connecting it to your new PC:

Can I sync podcasts and ITunesU. from one computer to another that both have the same account.

No.  Time Machine won't get your boot camp partition back.  There are excellent utilities that move entire hard drive contents among hard drives such as SuperDuper! and CCC, but as far as I know they don't work with boot camp partition.  My suggestion: reinstall Mac OSX on your new Mac (you don't want to hold Option key to start it everytime anyway), partition it with boot camp exactly (or similarly) as you did to your previous Mac (install the same operating system, which should be one of the Microsoft Windows I assume).  Use Migration Assistant as kaz-k suggested to move all the stuff on the Mac partition of your previous Mac.  Reboot both your Macs from the boot camp partition - I assume they are all on Windows platform.  Now you have two computers on Windows platform.  Use Norton Ghost or similar tools to migrate all the stuff from your old machine to your new machine.  Hope this helps.  Backup all your data before such operation.  Good luck.

Copy the iTunes folder (Mac: Home\Music or PC: My Music) to the same location on the new computer. If an iTunes folder already exists on the new computer (it will on a Mac) replace it with one you copied.

how do i migrate all my imovie projects from one computer to another

You need to attach the computers to one another say with a firewire cable? Or use an external hard drive to copy the Events/Projects and then move the hard drive to the other computer. Are you able to do either one of these first?

  • Can I use my iPod to move photos and music from one computer to another?

    Hi,
Is it possible to have photos and music on my iPod from one computer, and then copy those from my iPod to another computer? (like with an ordinary USB-unit)
And another question: Is it possible to download movies onto my iPod? If yes, how? (owner of an iPod 30GB)
    Thanks!

Did you set it to copy full-resolution photos??? If so, enable your iPod for disk use, open my computer, click on your iPod, and open the pictures folder. You can just drag them from there. If you didn't, use a program such a CopyPod Photo (google it) to copy photos from your iPod. Note that the files will only be the same resolution as your iPod screen (320x240) and not worth using for anything else. If you want to use it for sharing, definitely go with the full-res option. It is at the bottom of the photos pane in the iPod screen in iTunes.

  • Copying all mail and folders from one mac to another

I have a pop account that loads to my imac. all the mail is sorted into folders and kept there till needed. is it possible to take all the mail on my imac and transfer it to my macbookpro so i have all my files sorted when i go on trips? can i either upload it or do it through .mac? i thought i could just archive the whole thing like in entourage and reopen it, but i haven't found a way to do that yet. Can you help?

All your mail and mail attaachments are in /Users/inahayes/Library/Mail and /Users/inahayes/Library/Mail Downloads (unless you set up your Mail downloads to be saved somewhere else). While not hte most elegant of solutions, conceivably, you could manually afp-mount one computer onto the other's desktop (⌘k or ⇧⌘k in Finder) and drag those two folders to the corresponding /Users/inahayes/Library folder on the MBP. When you return from your trip, do the same thing in the opposite direction. However, an imap account would eliminate this problem, if you have the ability to migrate to an imap account.

  • How do I migrate settings and signature from one computer to another??

I have a new computer. I have installed Adobe X Pro on the new machine, and now I woudl like ot move my preferences and signatures over. What do I need to copy from one machine to the other???

You don't copy signatures, you'd copy digital ID files. The self-signed digital IDs that you create with Acrobat are saved as .pfx files (Win) or .p12 files (Mac). You can get the folder they're stored in via the Security Settings dialog in Acrobat:

  • Changing iTunes and files from one computer to another

Recently, I sent all of the files that I had in iTunes through my wireless network to my upstairs computer. Then I deleted the files that I had downstairs. I didnt realize that it didnt send my filesharing files, like my Ares music. So I just re-downloaded the songs that I did not get from the file sending, into my current iTunes. When I tried to sync my iPod this morning with my new computer, it would say that it was updating on the iPod and iTunes, but nothing would happen. I thought it maybe was because I dont have the exact songs that I have on my iPod now, and maybe iTunes cant remove songs from the iPod? Anyone know what could be wrong? I cant figure out how to get my songs from my new iTunes onto my iPod that has never been synced on this computer. Any help would be much appreciated.

try to restore it then try to sync it again.

  • Transferring Mail settings/inbox/etc from one computer to another

I need to transfer the Mail from an iMac running Tiger to a Macbook running Leopard. I have the Mail folder from the Library on an external HD and have that plugged into the Macbook. I copied that to the Library on the Macbook and tried to import things from there. It's not working. I remember doing this a few years ago from a G4 to a MBP but I forget exactly what I did. Suggestions?

quit mail on both computers and copy the folder /users/username/library/mail AND the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the old computer to the corresponding locations on the new one. start Mail and it should look as it did on the old computer.

  • Moving playlists AND songs from one computer to another

    Hi there,
I need to move several playlists and the songs in those playlists from my Mini to my laptop. Why? The laptop is going to be playing the music at my wedding, and the Mini's staying home.
I have 6 different playlists. I know how to export the playlists as an XML file and import that file onto the laptop. But what about the files themselves? Between the 6 playlists, there's probably over 200 songs. I'd rather not hunt them all down, move them manually to the laptop, export XML playlists, lather, rinse, repeat.... but I suppose I will if I need to!
If it help, my Mini's entire iTunes library lives on an external hard drive.
    Thoughts? Suggestions? Moral support?

I'm confused--if your laptop is authorized to play all of the songs in your mini library, why can't you just burn a DATA DVD (if you have a DVD burner) of everything on the playlist. This should work on your laptop (as long as it's authorized to play purchased tunes). Post back if you have questions, but I don't know why this won't work!

  • How can I transfer the metadata templates and keywords from one computer to another? Working on a new iMac CS6?

I've just changed computers and upgraded to CS6. I am trying to import my Bridge metadata templates and keywords. I had done this once before but I can not remember the procedure for doing this. I have created a lot of templates and do not want to do this all over again. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Kevin

    komphoto,
The keywords file is buried deep inside the INVISIBLE user Library, or "~Library" (that's a tilde before the word Library, which designates the User Library, a.k.a, the Home Folder Library).
In order to make it visible temporarily, you have to go to the Finder, then go to the "Go" menu and select the "Go To Folder…" menu item, and type ~Library in the text field.
That will open a new Finder window which will be grayed out to indicate that it's normally hidden.  From there you can follow the path:
Note that I'm not saying this will work.  I have never done it myself.  I'm just trying to clear up the confusion caused by the previous poster.

  • Transferring an iMovie project from one computer to another

I have an iMac with some iMovie projects that I want to work on through my MBP.
What is the best way of doing this?
Drop Box doesn't seem to be the way. Migration Assistant is an option I suppose but all I want to do is to be able to work on a project back and forth from one computer to another. Is this possible?

use any kind of drive thats big enough to hold the data your imovie projects are stored in account>movies>imovie projects
