Transfering app purchases to a new account

I have a MobileMe account and have done for a while, but the iOS appstore, my iPhone, my iPad and any purchased music are still using an iTunes account setup with my old Googlemail account (which, after sitting collecting dust for nearly two years, I want to finally close down). I know that if I transfer all my devices over to the MobileMe account that I'll be able to retain my purchased music (sans purchase history), but I have nearly 15GB worth of iOS applications that I have downloaded with the old iTunes account.
Can I transfer iOS applications to a new account without having to buy them again? I can prove that both accounts belong to me, could I request to re-download the applications again free of charge, or would that be out of the question?
Thanks for any help
~Ben

You can change your apple ID (itunes > itunes store > account > edit account info) but this will change it for your parents also.
So, you can take all your purchases with you, but if your folks have also purchased things, and if they want to purchase stuff in the future, this won't work.
There is one option: iTunes supports multiple libraries. You could use one library for the content that you've bought with your parents account, and another profile for your own account. You WON'T be able to have the content from both accounts on the same ipod / touch / iphone, etc
For multiple library support, look here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=637185
So, in answer to your question, you won't lose your content, you just won't be able to use it at the same time with any new content on a new user account.

My dad and I have shared an iTunes account for years and I just created a new apple id but I have no Idea how to get all those purchases to this new account. Help please?

The old Apple ID (presumably your dads) owns those songs and your new Apple ID does not.  However, your dad can authorize your iD to use the songs by going to Store > Authorize This Computer from your iTunes menu and entering his Apple ID and password.

  • HT1420 I am trying to sync my iPhone to my computer with a new Apple ID that Ive just created because the original account has been applied on too many computers. iTunes is not allowing me to transfer my purchases with my new account. Help!!

I am trying to synch my iPhone with my computer, and new Apple ID. My iPhone is synced with another computer, but i have changed the Apple ID on my phone and authorized it on my computer. However, i can not transfer my purchases on to my new account. I have updated my phone, authorized the account on both my phone and my computer. And i do not wish to wipe my phone clean, because there is but one song on this new account. How do i transfer the music on my new account?

All content bought/downloaded from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it and it can't be transferred to a different account - so you will need to authorise your old account on that computer if you want to transfer its purchases over.

  • Do I have to pay for the In-App-Purchase of the new GarageBand-version if I already paid for GarageBand before?

    Hi there!
I am using GarageBand for some months now and I´m really happy with that software. Yesterday the new version (2.0) was released and it is now for free. However if you want the whole bundle you have to get the available in-app-purchase. This however means having to pay once again for something I already paid for, correct?
Or is the in-app-purchase for free to those people who already paid for the app?
    Thank you very much!

Just tried - sign in to the account you used to buy the software and click restore purchase. The old Garageband users are automagically given the full version by internal systems of Apple.

    Have tried many times.

Last night I reset my iPod and was able to purchase in-App add ons for all but Hotspot VPN. I think Hotspot may be my problem?

  • Old account purchases to my new account?

I would like to know how to transfer all I downloaded and purchases apps from a old account to my new account. The old account im using the whole time is my brother.. I bought apps through that account. I forgot that he warned me that I should have used my own account. Now, it is blocked. He told me I should have used my own. But, how about the purchases from that old account to my new account? Will someone help me? Thanks!

You cannot transfer apps from one account to another account. It is not possible - Apple has no provision for it. Unfortunately, if you can no longer use that account, you will have to repurchase all of the apps again.

  • Move purchased music to new account

My son is 17 and we would like to allow him to have his own itunes account.  He has been using our family itunes account on his ipod.  How can we transfer the music he's purchased on the family account to his own itunes account?

I have a similar question. I have been buying apps and music on an Itunes accound for several years. I have mobile me but didn't set it up with that account and I should have. I would like to use one account for everything though since the new cloud and everything has come out. Is there anyway you know of I can create my new account and sync to it without losing eveything on my Iphone? I haven't tried it for fear of losing everything. I know that have stuff in place so you can't plug in and get someone elses music and apps but if it is already on my phone and blongs to me can I just move it to my new apple ID?
    Thanks

  • Transfering apps from a personal dev account to an enterprise account

Has anyone had an experience with the subject?
My friend initially created several iPhone and iPad apps under his personal dev account and is ready to move on... He is thinking of registering a company and creating an enterprise account but is concerned with how he will be able to transfer all the apps... How long that would take, will the apps lose their ratings, will he still be able to notify existing users with the new versions, etc.... Should he transfer individual apps or there is an option of transferring the entire account...
Please share your experience or point me to a right source... My friend is apparently shy to ask himself, but I figured that pretty soon I will be facing the same question myself....
    Thanks everyone for your responses

I will tell you my experience with this.
I'm doing some work for a stealth statup company.
They registered everyting under the company name.
They wanted to change the company name and re-release the app under a new name.
In effect, they had to "start over".
New developer account, new iTunes Connections accounts, etc.
It seems there is no "easy" way for an entity to simply change it's name.
So, for your friend, I would say, leave things already in the app store in his name.
Release new versions under the new name.
This might not work easily, as he may have to abandon / remove the old apps from the app store in order to release the app with the same name in the app store under a different company/entity name.  Or maybe not.
I'd advise him to just call Apple Developer Support and ask....
"Can I re-release my current apps as a new version with the same name using a different compay name?"
The details being the app bundle will be different, com.old.myapp  vs. com.new.myapp, as well.
The real answer will be if Apple allows the name-space collision from two entities.
In our case, our app and company name were the same, and when the company name changed, they made them separate, and also picked a new name for the app taking the product in a new marketing direction.
In your friend's case he wants to keep his popularity and ratings, and I don't know how Apple handles that part.
The question is more, can I transfer the ownership of my app to another entity without losing it's reatings?

  • How to back up phone with apps purchased with multiple iTunes accounts

It's a long story, but my iPhone has apps that were purchased through multiple iTunes account.
Is it possible to create a backup of my phone that accounts for all of these apps?  Last time I tried backup in iTunes, it only backed up the apps purchased with that particular iTunes account, but not others.
Should something happen to my iPhone and I need to restore/clone my phone, I want all my apps -- regardless of whose iTunes account was used to purchase them -- to be restored.
Any quick and easy way for this?

The backup does not include any apps. It only includes the list and arrangement of apps; which are then reloaded when you sync after restoring.

  • I just purchased a Mac book pro and set up a new Apple ID with it. I already have Mac desktop computer with the original account my family has opened. I would like to transfer our old purchases to my new account, but we already have 5 devices authorized.

I just got a new Mac Book for college and I created my own apple id for it. My family already has a shared account and I was hoping to transfer the purchases from that account onto my new account. I tried the Homesharing feature, but we already have 5 devices that were authorized and we can't add another. What is the best way to make the transfer work?

    You are most welcome

  • What exactly is in the in-app purchase in the new Garageband?

I've found that the lessons in the old version of Garageband are the same as the new one. If you have the old verison and donwload the lessons from it, you also have the lessons for the new version without paying extra. Likewise, it seems, with many of the extra instruments, loops, and sounds.
My question is: Other than the extra drummers, which are new features, what do you get in the new Garageband in-app purchase that wasn't in the old Garageband? Are there new instruments, loops, and sounds?
    Thanks
    Bob
Note: I did post this question in a reply in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/23553002#23553002 but thought it deserved a opic of its own.

I think I can answer my own question. There are a fair number of instruments that are available. I also found that all of the older Garageband instruments are available. At the bottom of the instruments list is a Legacy category. So whether you need all the new ones if you already have the old ones is up to you. I expect that it's the same for the extra loops.
