Transfering content from older model to newer model

I currently use a 20 gb ipod that is almost completely filled. I am planning to get either a 30 or 60 gb model and would like to transfer my current content (stored on my computer)to the new unit. iTunes is on my computer now, and so is a USB connection. Can I do this using my current software and hardware? without having to load any of the new software, etc. In other words how can I transfer all my current content with only plugging my new unit into the current connection?

You just need to connect the new iPod. On connection it will walk you through naming the iPod etc and automatically update from your existing iTunes.

  • Transferring music from older model ipod to new ipod.

I have a 3rd generation ipodMB245LL on pc and I am not able to upload songs from this ipod into my itunes in an effort to transfer them to my new nano MP690LL. Why wont Itunes allow me to do this especially if I own both the ipods and the itunes?
I am able to downlod songs from itunes to the new ipod. Itunes also recognizes the old ipod but will not let me "drag" songs into the library from the old ipod eventhough the itunes and ipods are registered under the same name.
    Please help.

Syncing music is a one way street with the iPod and that is from iTunes to the iPod and NOT the other way around. The only exception to this rule is with iTunes purchases. You can transfer them back to iTunes by plugging the iPod and choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.
Otherwise, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • TS3682 Restore content from older device to new device in iCloud

Hi, just got a new device ( iphone5 ) and I need to transfer content from my older device using iCloud. Unfortunately I missed the prompt during the setup of my new device when asked if I would like to restore iCloud back up. Verizon activated my new phone and never bothered to ask me if I wanted this option , they answered no when I really should have said yes. Now I'm trying to restore my old back up and can't since I don't have access to my computer / ITunes. Is there any other way to get this backup using wifi ? Thank you for your time and expertise regarding this  matter. Miguel

  • Transferring songs from older IPOD to new IPOd Touch

I have an IPOd Mini and I want to transfer the songs to my new IPOd Touch. Any idea of how to accomplish this?
    Thanks

You can't transfer content directly from your Mini to the Touch, if the songs aren't in iTunes on your computer you'll have to copy them back and load the Touch from there. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Transferring albums from older iPod to newer Mini Mac

How can I transfer some albums from my wife’s old iPod 20 GB model A1059 to our newer Mini Mac. Most of the older albums were transfered to the new computer, but somehow I must have deleted many of the albums, which are still on the old iPod.  How do I transfer those albums?  I don’t want to mess up what I currently have in my iTunes.  Any help or direction would be appreciated.

    Hhi there Vince1942,
It sounds like you have media on your iPod that you want to transfer to your Mac mini. You can use this article to transfer your iTunes Store purchases over:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer
Keep this in mind for media from other sources:
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.

  • Transferring info from older iMac to new one.

Is there a way to transfer my files from my older iMac to My new one? I mean, can I use the firewire port or something easy like that to transfer my files? Or will I have to start form scratch. BTW did I mention my cd/dvd drive on my older mac is dead? There will be no backing up files.
    Please help!

Just be careful with Migration Assistant. If you select Applications, it will move everything over that isn't newer or already on the new Mac. You can't pick and choose. This means it will move any ancient or incompatible apps, including all their associated files, which may end up being spread out all over the new computer.
In addition, if you are moving things out from a PPC to an Intel, read this.

Sometimes it's safer to just move files and folders over.

  • Issues with transferring files from older MacBook to new Macbook Pro

Hi there. I am trying to transfer my files from an older MacBook (OS 10.5) to my new MacBook Pro but there is no firewire and it didn't like the file sharing 'afp' address I tried. My Time Machine is saved on a HD with only firewire so that doesn't help. I have an ethernet cord but can't find how to use it to connect them..am so frustrated. I remember Migration Assistant being so smooth and easy in the past but this is not smooth nor easy. thanks in advance for your help!

It may mean to Snow Leopard, which is more in line with current systems though it's still older. Not sure a cable is going to do it for you if ethernet and wifi failed.

  • I transferred documents from older computer to new one and now I cant open.  The computer tells me power pc applications no longer supported.  Is there a way to fix this so I can open?

HI, any help would be greatly apperciated.  I purchased a new iMAC this year and transferred my old docments from very old iMAC (flying saucer looking thing) and now I am trying to open them and cant.  My computer tells me that power pc applications are no longer supported.  Is there a way to save, change or move documents so I can open?  Email to someone else?  Thanks!

As you've found out, Lion dropped support for PowerPC applications. What type of files are you trying to open? What PowerPC application are you using to try to work with them?  Many have had Office 2004 fail to load after migrating to Lion.

  • HT4527 When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, even though all of songs were copied over, not all of them went to iTunes, some appear to be stored elsewhere. How can I find these songs, and how do I transfer them to iTunes?

When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, all my songs were copied over, but not all of them were stored in iTunes. It appears they are on the computer somewhere, but not on iTunes. Where are these other songs likely to be, and how can I get them onto iTunes? Because of this problem, Apple will not allow me to update my iPhone.

You may/must have had music files stored outside of your iTunes library.
I'd recommend going to the Finder and then via the search box look for files with mp3 aif m4a aac etc. depending on the music format your digital music had. With the list of files shown you should be able to learn which files were stored outside of your music > itunes folder
Chances are they could be burried somewhere under your documents, downloads, desktop, ... we all have different storage and organization habits.
Then when you find the missing files, on the new computer you can do add to library and go to the folder on the other computer where the missing files are - if your systems are networked - or sneak them over using a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive if you have lots of files, or if you like to have an extra backup of that music, copy to optical disc.

  • How do you transfer contents from old ipad to new?

How do you transfer contents from old iPad to new?

    Caesar1948-
I'm not using iCloud, so do not know for sure.  I feel as if I have more control by using iTunes on my computer, to determine what is on my iPad, and what gets deleted.
If your wife will share the same Apple ID with you, you do not need to remove everything from the old iPad.  She can share your purchased Apps, music, et cetera.
In iTunes, you can have several iOS devices sharing Apps under a common Apple ID, but you can also "uncheck" specific Apps you do not want on one of your devices.  Each device has an identity so iTunes should remember which App goes on which device during future syncs.
If your wife will have her own individual Apple ID, you need to go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.  This will return the iPad to factory defaults, except it will retain the latest iOS version installed.

  • Detailed specs for Cinema HDD 23-inch -- different from older models?

I am having trouble finding detailed specifications for my new 23" display to use for running X.org. I need to know the timings for each resolution, as simply specifying the resolution does not work. The best I've found is here:
http://www.gubbe.ch/linux/dev-cinema23.php (the gray box at the bottom lists the detailed specs to put in the file)
However, this is for the older model of display with ADC and not DVI. I'm not sure if these will work with the new model, and I'm afraid to try because it used to be that one could really mess up one's display by specifying the wrong timings.
Does anyone know if the specs have changed between the older and newer models, or where I could find new specs, or help setting it up to run under X.org?

Actually, those Modelines from the web site work fine, at least for the generic nv driver. I'm having trouble getting the proprietary one from nVidia to work though. I'm working with them on this: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=70630
The problem I am looking at right now are these lines from my latest Xorg.0.log file:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No connected display devices detected; assuming 1 CRT
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0
    (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce3 Ti 500 at PCI:1:5:0
    (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoRAM: 65536 kBytes
    (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 03.20.00.16.10
(II) NVIDIA(0): Detected AGP rate: 4X
(--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are not supported on this GPU
    (--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce3 Ti 500 at PCI:1:5:0:
    (--) NVIDIA(0): CRT-0
    (--) NVIDIA(0): CRT-0: 350.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
(II) NVIDIA(0): Assigned Display Device: CRT-0
    (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:
    (II) NVIDIA(0): "1920x1200"
(II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1920 x 1200
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device CRT-0's EDID; cannot compute DPI
    (WW) NVIDIA(0): from EDID.
    (==) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (75, 75); computed from built-in default
This is my graphics card saying, "I can't see what sort of monitor has been plugged in, so I'm going to assume it's a CRT," and then from there it messes up. It can't tell my monitor is plugged into the DVI port. I'm not sure if this is my monitor's problem or my card's problem. The monitor is plugged in directly--the cable coming from the monitor is plugged right into the DVI port--but I'm not sure if Apple did something silly like, say, converting that DVI connection into an ADC connection before having it interface with the monitor's hardware. Any insight about this would be appreciated.
Anyway, I tried that timing you gave me with the proprietary driver. It didn't work, but I doubt that's because the timing is incorrect, and has more to do with the fact that my card can't seem to see the monitor.

  • Transferring content from apps to new ipad

Sorry if this is the wrong section
I jus bought a new ipad, and i was jus wondering hw to transfer those apps content from old ipad to the new ones.
The contents I was referring to was stuffs like games histories, such as the levels and achievements. (i got a game called bubble mania, and i got quite far in it, i dont wanna redo it all over again. Hahas)
As well as contents in an apps called the "ppstream". (i kinda downloaded 10+ gigabytes of movies in it, so redownloading it is quite a hassle)
I used the backup using itunes, and it does reinstalled all those apps i used, but all the apps are empty so its kinda useless.
Did i did the wrong backup? or are they any more extra steps that needed to be done?
is there any way to make a complete copy of the ipad or clone it to the new ipad?
    Thanks in advance

You have to have a current backup of the old iPad before you restore the new iPad from the backup of the old iPad. Read this and see if it becomes clearer to you. You should probably transfer purchases as well so that all of your bases are covered.
