Transfering docs and apps to the Retina 5K iMac

I just purchased the new Retina 5k iMac (awaiting it to arrive) and will need to transfer all my docs and applications from my mid 2010 iMac. The Retina 5K does not have firewire, and my current iMac does not have thunderbolt. How do I connect them?
Thanks,
Ken

Without a doubt the easiest and most reliable method is to connect the Time Machine backup EHD to the new iMac via USB. When you turn it on for the first time it will ask if are migrating from another Mac, select Yes and then select the TM drive and follow the on-screen instructions. Extremely simple and extremely reliable. No need to buy an unnecessary Thunderbolt to FW adapter. The complete process for most users takes less than 2 hours.
