Transfering FCP material from one computer to another

I recently purchased a MacPro and want to transfer all my Final Cut Express projects from my iMac. I dragged and dropped all my FCE files on to an exteran HD and once completed hooked it up to my MacPro and tried to one the projects. The error regarding missing files came up and I follow the thread on the error window to locate the files yet have no luck. Files such as iTunes, mov, and iPhoto ones.
Can anyone give me a step by step procedure on how to transfer correctly.
Thanks in anticipation,
Barry

Use the Media manager (in the File menu) to consolidate all elements of a project to a single folder.
The FCP manual has a section on how it works.

  • Transferring home movies from one computer to another

What is the best way to do this? I have about 500 video clips that I want to move from one computer to another. I've tried using the export function in iPhoto but all I get upon transfer is a single frame of the movie. I keep the files on an external HD but I can't find where they are stored. I see the iPhoto app to open but not the original files. Additionally, whenever I do locate these files, how can I get them transferred with the keywords assigned to them? TIA! Going from a MBP running 10.6.8 to a MBA running 10.8.2

I'm not sure you can assign keywords to a movie on export, as these are written to the exif metadata of a photo and most video has no such metadata.
You say you've tried the export function in iPhoto, but what settings have you used? Exporting with the Kind set to Original should yield the videos.

  • Transfering itunes library from one computer to another

Can you transfer / copy itunes and all songs in library from one PC to another PC (only one IPOD in use

I am having problems trasferring my itunes library from my PC to my laptop. I transferred all the downloaded music, "MY MUSIC" from one computer to the other, and the laptop's itunes picked those songs up. When I connected my ipod to my lap top, when selecting "transfer purchased music", itunes only imports the music that I have purchased at the itunes store. ** What I can't get imported to my laptop are the 500 CDs (5000 songs) that I downloaded onto my PC's itunes.

Copy the /My music/*iTunes folder* from one computer to the other.

  • Transferring a project from one computer to another

I just got a new iMac and I want to transfer a FCE project in progress from my old computer to my new one. How do I do this? If I just drag the project icon to the new computer, will all the video files come with it?
Also, the old computer has FCE 3.0 and the new one has 3.5. Any potential problems there?
    Thanks

Easiest way is to network your 2 Macs together, or put your old Mac in Target Disk Mode and connect it to your new Mac via FW. Then copy the appropriate folders & files from your old Mac to your new Mac.
On your new Mac, check to see if you have a folder named Final Cut Express Documents in your username/Documents folder. If it's already there, open it and check to see if there are folders called Capture Scratch and Autosave Vault in it. If not, create the folders; make sure the names are exact.
Open a new Finder window, go to your old Mac's HD and find your old Final Cut Express Documents folder. Drag whatever files (files only, not the folders) that are there; most of the time that is where your FCE project files are located (unless you specifically saved them elsewhere). Then open the Capture Scratch folder and drag the contents to the Capture Scratch folder on your new Mac; do likewise with the content of the old Autosave Vault folder.
You can ignore the render and cache folders; FCE will have to rebuild the contents on your new Mac anyway, so it would be a waste of time to copy all that stuff over to your new Mac.
Also remember to copy over any other source media files you used in your projects - music, photos etc.
After everything is on your new Mac, disconnect your old Mac, start up FCE on your new Mac, go into System Settings and make sure your FCE scratch disks location is set to your new Final Cut Express Documents folder. Next, open your project file (do File > Open and find your project file). You will probably have to reconnect media the first time you open your project. After that, things should work.
Just don't delete the material from your old Mac until you are satisfied that everything in your project is working properly on your new Mac.

  • Transferring all data from one computer to another

    Hi,
I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro - I would like to completely switch the data on the two computers.  In other words, I'd like to put everything that is on my macbook on the iMac, and vise versa.  I have backed both computers up using Time Machine, but I'm not sure what the best way is to do the swapover.  Any ideas?  I want to do more than just add the data from one to another, I want to completely wipe out the imac and install the macbook data on it, and completely wipe out the macbook and install the iMac data.  Any ideas?

What I would do is to move all the apps music and other media to the new cmputer.  Make sure the computer is authorized for the iTunes account(s) and iTunes logged into the progler account. Then connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.  Restore the iPod from that backup.

  • Transfering raw files from one computer to another after LightRoom selection

    Hello,
I'm trying out lightroom and love it so far. One quick question. If my assistant makes a Collection for me to work on later, how can I get the RAW files from that collection to work them on a different computer. I looked at the export option but it's only JPGs or DNF, and I want the RAW files. Can she export the RAW files for me? How?
    Thank you in advance

Thanks for your info. I'm a bit confused.
Don, if she exports the XMP sidecards I still need to have all the original files on my machine, and then filter accordingly correct? I only want to bring to my machine the Good Files. I don't want to waste time with the bad ones.
What do mean by letting her access both?
Harrison, are you saying to export the whole collection as DNG files and burn it onto a CD or something so that I can bring it into my computer? I'm not sure what you mean by letting my assistant "import them into the library on her computer" did you mean "my" computer?
Also right now I use bridge and I sort pictures by date created (multiple cameras) and then rename them with a prefix starting with 001. Can I do this in LightRoom.
Thanks again for all your help.

  • Moving my FCP project from one computer to another

I would like to break down a load of footage into subclips on my laptop (footage on external drive) and then move everything to
my desktop (and a different external hard drive).
I know I can transfer the FCP file to computer No2 along with the original downloads to external HD No 2, but is there a way for me to do that without having to reconnect each subclip one at a time?
Please let me know if there is a workflow that I can use, so that i don't have to reconnect each subclip one at a time.
    Thanks
    mp

If you copy everything to HD No2, but give HD No2 exactly the same name and folder structure as HD No1, then FCP just accepts it as the same drive and will work without the need for reconnecting anything.

  • Transferring iDVD project from one computer to another?

I have a MacBook that has a combo drive (it can burn CDs but not DVDs). I have Quicktime Pro and I used it to download a video from the internet. I edited it using Quicktime Pro and I was going to burn it on a DVD but I just realized that my MacBook doesn't burn DVDs. I have a friend who has an iMac that has a super drive (it can burn CDs and DVDs). Instead of spending money to buy an external DVD burner, can I email my project to him and then burn it on his computer? If not, can I store my project on a flash drive, then put it on his computer, and then burn it? If I could do one of these options that would be great because I don't want to buy an external DVD burner if I don't have to. Thanks.

Just to add to the excellent advice already posted. If you are done with your iDvd project and no additional changes are to take place then use the first link provided above. However, if you plan on making even the slightest change/s then follow directions for the second link which was kindly provided for you above.

  • Transferring FCE project from one computer to another....

i want to put a project that I started on my laptop onto my desktop. How do i do that successfully...keeping files / media connected and all that.
I have a fire wire cable to make the transfer, but I've never done this before. any suggestions?
my laptop is saying i need more disk space...i knew it would happen. OR have any ideas on how to free up more disk space?

This was just explained to me at the Apple Store last week.
Assuming you have two Apple computers, this what you do: Turn off the computer with the material you want to transfer. Press letter "T" and start the computer. This computer you just started now becomes, in effect, an external hard drive.
Now plug into the second computer with your FireWire cable. You can now import the project into the second computer.

  • Transferring iTunes library from one computer to another...

Okay, so I finally purchased myself a PowerBook. Currently, I have all my music (on my iTunes) on my eMac (which I have been using the past 10 months). I would like to switch all my music over to my new PowerBook and do all my iTunes/iPod updating/synching via my new PowerBook from now on.
Here's the question: How do I transfer my iTunes library (all my music) from the eMac to the PowerBook? Using my iPod as a hard disk is not an option. Can I connect my new PowerBook to my eMac and transfer the files that way? Do I have to burn like five DVD disks and load them manually onto the new PowerBook? Is there some other great solution? Anything else I need to know about this process? Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks all.

    Josh,
Use target disk mode wich is explained in the following link. Follow directions carefully and good luck.

  • Moving Movie Rentals from one computer to another

Is there a way to transfer an iTunes movie rental from one computer to another. I purchased it on one laptop but wish to play the movie on another laptop. It does not show up in the list on the other computer even though it is a shared laptop

Sorry, but transferring a rental from one computer to another is not possible, at least not directly. It might be possible by transferring the rental to an iPod/iPhone and then transferring back to the second computer, though I don't know for sure.
